Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1696

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Black Corner and the Station of Ibrahim are two rubies from among the rubies of Paradise."

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts of "al-Mustadrak" his name appears here as "bin Ibrahim", whereas Imam al-Hakim wrote it in other places as "Ahmad bin Ya'qub bin Ahmad", and Imam al-Dhahabi wrote the same name in his biography of him in "Tarikh al-Islam" (735/ 7).
Important point: However, in Abu Tahir al-Silafi's "al-Ahadith al-'Idiyyah al-Musalsalah" (5) his name appears as "Ahmad bin Ya'qub bin Ahmad bin Ibrahim al-Thaqafi", which means that Ibrahim was one of his forefathers, to whom Imam al-Hakim attributed him; it is not as some have supposed, that the word Ibrahim is a distortion of Ahmad. And Allah knows best.

Grading: Its chain is talif (utterly ruined),
Criticism of a narrator: Dawud bin al-Zibriqan is matruk, as al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis"; indeed some even declared him a liar.
Important point: However, it is established from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) as mawquf that he said: "The Black Stone is from Paradise."
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it at (21/ 13944) by way of Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan from Shu'bah from Qatadah from him (Anas),
Grading: and this chain is entirely sahih.
Variation in the chain: 'Umar bin Ibrahim al-'Abdi al-Basri narrated it with the same wording as Shu'bah from Qatadah from Anas as marfu' (as a statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)).
Reference / Source: Al-Fakihi (7), al-Bazzar (7203), Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi in "al-Ja'diyyat" (976), al-'Uqayli in "al-Du'afa'" (1095), al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (4954), Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" (5/ 42) and al-Bayhaqi at (5/ 75) narrated it.
Criticism of a narrator: This 'Umar bin Ibrahim is weak in his narrations from Qatadah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Abi Hatim reported in "al-'Ilal" (814) his father's statement: "'Umar bin Ibrahim erred", whereas Shu'bah and 'Amr bin al-Harith al-Misri narrated it from Qatadah from Anas as mawquf.
Details of the narration: We say: the narration of 'Amr bin al-Harith is found with al-Fakihi at no. (8), but he did not state explicitly that it is mawquf; rather, he appended it to the marfu' narration of 'Umar bin Ibrahim.
