It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: Which deed is the most virtuous? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Al-'ajj wa al-thajj (that is, calling out the talbiyah in a loud voice and shedding the blood of sacrificial animals)."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. Abu Ubayd says: "Al-'ajj means raising the voice while calling out the talbiyah, and al-thajj means slaughtering the sacrificial camels so that blood flows from their throats."

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: It is hasan li-ghayrihi on the strength of other reports, but this isnad is weak due to a break (inqita') in it. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin al-Munkadir did not hear from Abd al-Rahman bin Yarbu'. Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (2924) and al-Tirmidhi (827) narrated it with this same chain of Ibn Abi Fudayk. Variation in the chain: Imam al-Tirmidhi says that this narration is known only through Ibn Abi Fudayk, and that it is munqati' (broken). (5086). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A hasan supporting report for it is the hadith of Abd Allah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), found in Abu Ya'la (5086). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A supporting report is also narrated from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), but in it Ibrahim bin Yazid is a "matruk" (abandoned) narrator.
