حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب حدثنا الرّبيع بن سليمان، حدثنا ابن وهب، حدثني سليمان بن بلال، حدثني العلاء، عن أبيه، عن أبي هريرة: أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ قال: "الجَرَسُ مِزْمارُ الشَّيطان" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The bell is the flute of Satan."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(2) إسناده صحيح. ابن وهب هو عبد الله، والعلاء: هو ابن عبد الرحمن بن يعقوب مولى الحُرَقة.
Grading: Its isnad is sahih.
Criticism of a narrator: Ibn Wahb is Abd Allah, and al-'Ala' is Ibn Abd al-Rahman bin Ya'qub (mawla of al-Huraqah).
وأخرجه ابن حبان (4704) من طريق حرملة بن يحيى، عن ابن وهب، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (4704) narrated it via Harmalah bin Yahya from Ibn Wahb with this same chain.
وأخرجه أحمد 14 / (8783)، وأبو داود (2556) من طريقين عن سليمان بن بلال، به.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad 14/ (8783) and Abu Dawud (2556) narrated it via two routes from Sulayman bin Bilal.
وأخرجه أحمد (8851)، ومسلم (2114)، والنسائي (8761) من طريق إسماعيل بن جعفر، عن العلاء بن عبد الرحمن، به. فاستدراك المصنف لهذا الحديث ذهول منه ﵀.

Important point: Imam al-Hakim's (may Allah have mercy on him) inclusion of this hadith in al-Mustadrak is an oversight on his part, since it is already in Sahih Muslim.
