أخبرنا إبراهيم العَدْل، حدثنا أبي، حدثنا يحيى بن يحيى، أخبرنا محمد بن أبي عَدِي، أخبرنا حُمَيد الطويل، عن أنس بن مالك قال: كان رسولُ الله ﷺ يَعتكِفُ في العَشْر الأواخر من رمضان، فلم يَعتكِفْ عامًا، فلما كان العامُ المقبِلُ اعتَكَفَ عشرين (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه. وله شاهدٌ صحيح:

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to observe i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. One year he (peace and blessings be upon him) was unable to observe i'tikaf, so when the following year came he (peace and blessings be upon him) observed i'tikaf for twenty days.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

(1) إسناده صحيح. إبراهيم العدل: هو إبراهيم بن عِصمة بن إبراهيم، ويحيى بن يحيى: هو النيسابوري.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Criticism of a narrator: Ibrahim al-'Adl refers to Ibrahim bin 'Ismah, and Yahya bin Yahya is al-Naysaburi.
وأخرجه أحمد 19/ (12017)، ومن طريقه ابن حبان (3662) و (3664). وأخرجه الترمذي (803) عن محمد بن بشار، كلاهما (أحمد ومحمد) عن ابن أبي عدي، بهذا الإسناد. قال الترمذي: حديث حسن غريب من حديث أنس بن مالك.
Reference / Source: Ahmad 19/ (12017) narrated it, and through him Ibn Hibban (3662, 3664). Al-Tirmidhi (803) transmitted it through the route of Muhammad bin Bashshar. Imam al-Tirmidhi says: It is hasan gharib as a hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him).
