It is narrated from Amir bin Ladin al-Ash'ari that he heard Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Friday is a festival day, so do not make your festival day your day of fasting, unless you also fast a day before it or a day after it."
The chains of this hadith are authentic, but the two Shaykhs did not record it. However, I have not been able to learn the name of its narrator Abu Bishr, who he is; he is neither Bayan bin Bishr nor Ja'far bin Abi Wahshiyyah, and Allah knows best. A supporting narration (shahid) of this hadith with different wording is found in Bukhari and Muslim.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is hasan. Criticism of a narrator: A group narrated from Abu Bishr (who was the mu'adhdhin of the mosque of Damascus), and al-'Ijli declared him trustworthy. Al-Dhahabi and Ibn Hajar, citing al-'Ijli, described 'Amir bin Ludayn as a trustworthy Tabi'i. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This hadith is in the Musnad of Ahmad 13/ (8025) through the chain of 'Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Ahmad 16/ (10890) narrated it from Hammad bin Khalid from Mu'awiyah bin Salih, where Abu Bishr is explicitly identified as "the mu'adhdhin of the mosque of Damascus". Important point: It has already passed (at hadith no. 1185) as marfu' through the chain of Muhammad bin Sirin from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Do not single out Friday among the days for fasting, and do not single out the night of Friday among the nights for standing in prayer."
Criticism of a narrator: Imam al-Dhahabi agreed with this in Talkhis al-Mustadrak, that this narrator is majhul!
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (1985) and Muslim (1144) narrated it through Abu Salih from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): "None of you should fast on Friday unless he fasts a day before it or after it." Its takhrij has already been given under hadith (1185).
