It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who performs cupping and the one who has it done have both broken their fast." In the narration of Ishaq al-Dabari the words "the one who seeks cupping" are also reported. Abu Bakr bin Ishaq says: I heard Abbas bin Abd al-Azim saying: I heard Ali bin al-Madini saying: I do not know any hadith more authentic than this concerning the one who performs cupping and the one who has it done.

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
25/ (15828). Grading: This chain is good (jayyid) on account of Ibrahim bin 'Abd Allah bin Qariz. Reference / Source: It is found in "Musnad Ahmad" (25/ 15828). Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (3535) narrated it through 'Umar bin Muhammad al-Hamdani via the chain of al-'Abbas bin 'Abd al-'Azim al-'Anbari. Reference / Source: Imam al-Tirmidhi (774) narrated it via various routes from 'Abd al-Razzaq and declared it "hasan sahih".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Tirmidhi quoted it from Ibn al-Madini immediately after the hadith, and a similar statement is also reported from Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal. However, a number of Imams disagreed with this. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar quoted in "al-Fath" (6/ 399) the statement of Yahya bin Ma'in: "The hadith of Rafi' is the weakest of them." Imam al-Bukhari called it "not preserved (ghayr mahfuz)" and Abu Hatim called it "false (batil)". Imam al-Tirmidhi says: I asked Ishaq bin Mansur about it, and he refused to narrate it to me from 'Abd al-Razzaq and said that it is "an error". Note / Clarification: Its defect is that Hisham al-Dastuwa'i narrated from Yahya bin Abi Kathir, with this same chain, the hadith "Mahr al-baghi khabith" (the earnings of a prostitute are impure), whereas the preserved narration is the one via the chain of Yahya, from Abu Qilabah, from Abu Asma', from Thawban; so it appears that one hadith got mixed into another for Ma'mar.
