Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1558

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that on the night of the new moon of Ramadan a Bedouin came and said: O Messenger of Allah! I have seen the new moon. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then call out among the people that they should fast."
Al-Fadl bin Musa has likewise narrated it from Sufyan al-Thawri.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Variation in the chain: In the manuscripts this name was distorted into "al-Qaysi", whereas the correct name is "al-'Ayshi" (with a fathah on the 'ayn and a sukun on the ya'), a nisbah to Banu 'A'ish bin Malik, as mentioned in al-Sam'ani's "al-Ansab" (9/ 427).

Grading: Like the previous one, it is "hasan li-ghayrihi".
Criticism of a narrator: Abu 'Asim refers to al-Dahhak bin Makhlad al-Nabil.
Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i narrated it through Abu Dawud al-Hafari (2435) and 'Abd Allah bin al-Mubarak (2436), via the chain of Sufyan al-Thawri from Simak from 'Ikrimah, as "mursal" (neither of them mentioned Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) in it).
