Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1535

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No man takes out anything as charity until, because of it, he has torn apart the jaws of seventy devils."
This hadith is sahih on the condition of the two Shaykhs, but they did not record it.

Grading: Its narrators are thiqah,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): except that al-A'mash (Sulayman bin Mihran) did not hear this hadith from Ibn Buraydah (Sulayman), as Abu Mu'awiyah al-Darir supposed, and this is also the position of Imam al-Bukhari, as al-Tirmidhi reported in "al-'Ilal al-Kabir" (2/ 964).
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (38/ 22962) narrated it via Abu Mu'awiyah, and in his narration Abu Mu'awiyah said: "I do not think that al-A'mash heard it from him (Ibn Buraydah)."
Important point: His (peace and blessings be upon him) words "lahyay sab'ina shaytanan" (the jaws of seventy devils): the word "lahy" means the place where the beard grows on a human or an animal, or the two jawbones in which the teeth are set.
