Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 148

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It cannot be combined that you are (at one and the same time) people who curse a great deal and also siddiqun (truthful believers)."

Grading: This hadith is sahih, and this chain is hasan because of Abu Bakr bin Ayyash.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Hasin is "Uthman bin Asim" and Abu Salih is "Dhakwan al-Samman".
Reference / Source: Ibn al-A'rabi and al-Tabarani (in "al-Awsat" and "al-Du'a'") narrated it through the chain of Ibrahim bin Ishaq al-Sini from Qays bin al-Rabi'.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibrahim al-Sini is matruk, and Qays bin al-Rabi' is weak but acceptable in supporting reports.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad and Muslim (2597) narrated it as marfu' through the chain of al-Ala' bin Abd al-Rahman from his father from Abu Hurayrah, with the wording that it is not befitting for a siddiq (truthful one) to be one who curses.
