Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that charity (zakah) be given, and a man brought some bunches of poor-quality dates (shis). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who brought this?" At that time, whatever anyone brought was attributed to the one who brought it. Then this verse was revealed: "And do not aim at the bad of it to spend from." The narrator said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that the dates called 'ju'rur' and 'lawn hubayq' be taken in zakah. Al-Zuhri said: These are two (inferior) kinds of the dates of charity.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, all its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy), and Sufyan bin Husayn, although there is criticism of his narration from al-Zuhri, has been corroborated, as has passed before. Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (1607) narrated it from Muhammad bin Yahya bin Faris, from Sa'id bin Sulayman, in abridged form with these words: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that ju'rur and lawn al-hubayq be taken in zakah." Al-Zuhri said: these are two (poor-quality) kinds of the dates of Madinah. (3161). Details of the narration: This narration will come later through two more routes from Sa'id bin Sulayman at hadith no. (3161). Important point: "Al-sukhkhal" (with a dammah on the sin and a shaddah on the kha): Sufyan explained it here as "shis". In "al-Nihayah" it says that when the date fruit does not ripen and its stone does not become firm, it is called "shis". Important point: "Al-kaba'is" is the plural of "kibasah", meaning the complete cluster of dates together with its stalks and fresh dates.
