It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The first three people to enter Paradise and the first three people to enter Hell were presented to me. As for the three who will be the first to enter Paradise, they are: the martyr; a slave who worshipped his Lord excellently and was sincere towards his master; and a chaste, self-restraining person who, despite having many dependants, kept himself away (from the unlawful and from begging). As for the three who will be the first to enter Hell, they are: a tyrannical ruler; a wealthy person who does not fulfil the right of Allah in his wealth; and a poor person who is arrogant and wicked."
Amir bin Shabib al-Uqayli is an elder from the people of Madinah whose hadith is sound. This is a foundational narration in this chapter, in the narration of which Yahya bin Abi Kathir is alone, and the two Shaykhs did not record it. A supporting narration (shahid) for it is the narration of al-A'mash from Abdullah bin Murrah:

Technical note: (3) The printed edition had "'Amir bin Shabib", which is wrong; the correct name is "'Amir bin 'Uqbah al-'Uqayli". Technical note: Al-Hakim erred regarding the name; there is no narrator named "'Amir bin Shabib". According to al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar, "Shabib" is actually a scribal corruption of "Shaqiq" ('Amir bin Abdullah bin Shaqiq).
Grading: (1) The chain is da'if because 'Amir al-'Uqayli is majhul (unknown); only Yahya bin Abi Kathir narrated from him. Abu al-Muthanna al-'Anbari is Mu'adh bin al-Muthanna, and Hisham, the father of Mu'adh, is al-Dastuwa'i. Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (4656) narrated it via the chain of Ishaq bin Ibrahim from Mu'adh bin Hisham. Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban narrated it in several places via the route of Muhammad bin al-Muthanna from Mu'adh. Reference / Source: Ahmad (15/9492) narrated it in full via the chain of Isma'il Ibn 'Ulayyah. Reference / Source: Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi (1642) narrated it via the chain of 'Ali bin al-Mubarak; al-Tirmidhi called it "hasan". (Note / Clarification): "'Afif": one who keeps away from what is unlawful. "Muta'affif": one who refrains from begging from people. (Note / Clarification): "Amir musallat": a ruler who oppresses and tyrannises his subjects. (Note / Clarification): "Faqir fakhur" (with kha'): a poor man who boasts a great deal and is arrogant.
