Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I suffered from haemorrhoids, so I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray standing; if you are not able, then sitting; and if you are not able even to do that, then pray lying on your side."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with this wording; Imam Bukhari recorded it only in brief, through the narration of Husayn al-Mu'allim.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) Its chain is sahih. Husayn al-Mu'allim refers to al-Husayn bin Dhakwan. Reference / Source: Ahmad (33/19819), Abu Dawud (952), Ibn Majah and al-Tirmidhi (372) narrated it through the chain of Waki' by the same route. (3211). Repetition: It will come later through the route of Ibn al-Mubarak at number (3211). Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (1115), Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban narrated it through the chain of 'Abdullah bin Buraydah from 'Imran bin Husayn: "The reward of one who prays sitting is half that of one who prays standing, and the reward of one who prays lying down is half that of one who prays sitting".
(Note / Clarification): "Nasur" means "basur" (haemorrhoids/piles), a well-known illness. It is read both with nun and with ba'.
Technical note: (1) Imam al-Hakim erred here; al-Bukhari's abridged narration is not from Yazid bin Zuray' but from Ibn al-Mubarak (number 1117). The narration of Yazid bin Zuray' is in Ibn Majah (1231), and it contains the details of the reward for praying standing, sitting and lying down.
