Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1201

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him): I travelled with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) eighteen times, and I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) leave the two rak'ahs at the time the sun passes its zenith.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) Its chain is da'if. Safwan bin Sulaym is alone in narrating from Abu Busrah al-Ghifari, and according to the imams (al-Dhahabi and others) he is not known.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (30/18583), Abu Dawud (1222) and al-Tirmidhi (550) narrated it through the chains of Qutaybah bin Sa'id and Hashim bin al-Qasim by way of al-Layth bin Sa'd.
Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi called it "gharib" and reported from Imam al-Bukhari that he knew it only through the route of al-Layth bin Sa'd.
Variation in the chain: This narration contradicts the narration of 'Abdullah bin 'Umar in Sahih Muslim (689), which states explicitly that he (peace and blessings be upon him) never added to the two rak'ahs of the obligatory prayer while travelling.
