It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah have mercy on a man who gets up at night and prays, and wakes his wife as well; then if she refuses, he sprinkles water on her face. And may Allah have mercy on a woman who gets up at night and prays, and wakes her husband; then if he refuses, she sprinkles water on his face."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but they did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) The chain is strong (qawi) because of Muhammad bin 'Ajlan. Abu al-Muthanna refers to Mu'adh, Yahya refers to al-Qattan, and Abu Salih refers to Dhakwan al-Samman. Reference / Source: Ahmad (12/7410), Abu Dawud (1308), Ibn Majah, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban narrated it through routes from Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan. (1506). Variation in the chain: Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah differed from him and narrated it through the chain of Sa'id al-Maqburi from Abu Hurayrah (Musnad Ahmad 12/7369). For details see al-Daraqutni's "al-'Ilal" (1506). (1204). Repetition: It will come again later at number (1204).
(Note / Clarification): "Nadaha fi wajhiha al-ma'" (sprinkling water on her face); according to Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah it does not mean splashing forcefully, but gently wiping (rubbing) the face, so that the sleeping person does not wake up startled, but rather his drowsiness goes away.
