Ya'la bin Mamlak narrates that he asked Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) about the night prayer and the recitation of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: What concern is his (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer (and its manner) to you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray, then sleep for as long as he had prayed, then pray for as long as he had slept, then sleep for as long as he had prayed, until morning came. And she described his (peace and blessings be upon him) recitation, and it was a recitation that pronounced each letter separately and clearly.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) The chain is capable of being graded hasan; only Ibn Abi Mulaykah narrated from Ya'la bin Mamlak, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat". Reference / Source: Ahmad (44/26526), Abu Dawud (1466), al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasa'i narrated it through routes from al-Layth bin Sa'd. Al-Tirmidhi called it "hasan sahih gharib". Al-Nasa'i said that Ya'la is not a very well-known narrator. Variation in the chain: Ibn Jurayj narrated it from Ibn Abi Mulaykah from Umm Salamah, that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pause (taqti') in his recitation; according to Imam al-Tirmidhi, the narration of al-Layth (the previous one) is more authentic. Reference / Source: Ahmad (26547) and al-Nasa'i (1326) narrated it through the chain of Ibn Jurayj, that he (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray 'Isha' and then sleep, then get up and pray for as long as he had slept, and this would continue until the morning. Reference / Source: Ahmad (26583), Abu Dawud (4001) and al-Tirmidhi narrated it through the route of Yahya bin Sa'id al-Umawi, that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pause at every single verse (for example, a pause after "al-hamdu lillah", then "al-Rahman al-Rahim"). Al-Tirmidhi called it "gharib" and disconnected (munqati'). Reference / Source: Ahmad (26742) narrated it through the chain of Hammam bin Yahya from Ibn Jurayj, that the recitation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was letter by letter and slow (with tartil). Reference / Source: Ahmad (26451) narrated it through the chain of Nafi' bin 'Umar from Hafsah (or another of the Prophet's pure wives): you would not be able to recite as he (peace and blessings be upon him) did, for he recited with the utmost tartil. (5046). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is narrated from Anas that the recitation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) contained "madd" (prolonging the sounds) (al-Bukhari 5045).
