Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1144

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray five rak'ahs of witr; if you cannot, then three; if you cannot, then one; and if you cannot (do even that), then perform (witr) by gestures."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) It is a "sahih hadith"; there is criticism of Sufyan bin Husayn's narration from al-Zuhri, but he has been corroborated.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (38/23545) narrated it through the chain of Yazid bin Harun, with this same chain.
Variation in the chain: The words "If you cannot, then gesture" occur only in the narration of Sufyan bin Husayn and Ash'ath bin Sawwar (who is weak); no other student of al-Zuhri mentioned them.
