Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1059

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out (to the mosque) on Friday and sat on the pulpit, (Sayyiduna) Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) would call the adhan.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, because Hisham bin al-Ghaz is among those narrators whose hadith are collected; however, the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Grading: (2) This is "sahih li-ghayrihi", and because of Mus'ab bin Sallam al-Tamimi this chain is "hasan" in corroboration and supporting reports. Al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis" that Mus'ab is not a proof (hujjah).
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Sunan al-Kubra" (3/205) and "al-Sunan al-Sughra" (620) through the chain of al-Hakim.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "Musnad al-Shamiyyin" (1532) and Abu Tahir al-Mukhallis in "al-Mukhallisiyyat" (2560) through two routes from Muhammad bin Isa bin al-Tabba'.
Reference / Source: Ibn Adi narrated it with a similar meaning in "al-Kamil" (8/87) through the chain of Ziyad bin Ayyub from Mus'ab bin Sallam.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The hadith of al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (al-Bukhari 912, 913, 916) is a supporting report for it; see further details in Musnad Ahmad (24/15716).
