Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1056

Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah narrates: My father (Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah, may Allah be pleased with him) came in to me while I was taking a bath on Friday. He asked: Is this the bath for janabah (major ritual impurity) or for Friday? I said: It is the bath for janabah. He said: Take another bath, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever takes a bath on Friday remains in a state of purity until the next Friday."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs, but they did not record it. Harun bin Muslim al-Ijli is an early shaykh of the people of Basrah, called al-Hinna'i, and he is trustworthy (thiqah); Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal and Ubaydullah bin Umar al-Qawariri narrated from him.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) God willing, the chain is "hasan". Harun bin Muslim al-Ijli was declared trustworthy by al-Hakim and Ibn Hibban; Abu Hatim called him layyin (weak), and al-Daraqutni called him "suwaylih" (fairly acceptable).
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (1222) narrated it through the chain of Muhammad bin Abd al-A'la with this same chain.
(Note / Clarification): "Purity until the next Friday" means purity from sins, because the sins of the interval are forgiven for one who attends the Friday prayer with its conditions.
