Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1041

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Salman! Do you know what Friday is?" I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Salman! Friday is the day on which your father - or the father of you all - (Adam, peace be upon him) was gathered. And I will tell you about the virtue of Friday: whoever purifies himself on Friday as he has been commanded, then goes out of his house and comes to the Friday prayer, and sits silently and listens attentively (to the sermon) until he completes his prayer, this deed becomes an expiation for him for the sins from the previous Friday until now."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain. The two Shaykhs used all of its narrators as evidence except Qartha'. I heard Abu Ali al-Qari say: I intended to collect all the musnad narrations of Qartha' al-Dabbi, because he was among the ascetic Tabi'in, but the total number of his narrations did not even reach ten.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note: (1) The word "Abu" had dropped out of the manuscripts; he is Abu al-Rabi' al-Zahrani (Sulayman bin Dawud al-Ataki).

Grading: (2) This is "sahih li-ghayrihi" (sahih due to supporting evidence), and because of Qurtha' al-Dabbi the chain is "hasan".
Technical note: Mansur, Abu Ma'shar, Ibrahim, Alqamah and Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) are its reliable narrators.
Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (1676, 1736) narrated it through the chain of Ishaq bin Ibrahim from Jarir with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ahmad and al-Nasa'i narrated it through the chain of Mughirah bin Miqsam. Hushaym did not mention Alqamah as an intermediary, while Abu Awanah added at the end the words "as long as killing is avoided".
