Hadith 13617
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُبَارَكُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : " مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ طِيبٌ فَرَدَّهُ قَطُّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when fragrance was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) would not refuse it.
Hadith 13618
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " زَجَرَ عَنِ الشُّرْبِ قَائِمًا ، قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : فَالْأَكْلُ ؟ قَالَ : أَشَرُّ وَأَخْبَثُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade drinking while standing. I asked about eating (while standing), so he said: "That is even more severe than this."
Hadith 13619
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ فِي سَفَرٍ ، فَأُتِيَ بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ ، فَشَرِبَ فِي رَمَضَانَ ، وَالنَّاسُ يَنْظُرُونَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once during the month of Ramadan, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey. A vessel was brought before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he drank from it while the people were watching.
Hadith 13620
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : إِنَّ أَبَا مُوسَى ، قَالَ : " اسْتَحْمَلْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَحَلَفَ أَنْ لَا يَحْمِلَنَا ثُمَّ حَمَلَنَا ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّكَ حَلَفْتَ أَنْ لَا تَحْمِلَنَا ، ثُمَّ حَمَلْتَنَا ! قَالَ : وَأَنَا أَحْلِفُ بِاللَّهِ لَأَحْمِلَنَّكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for an animal to ride. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was busy with some work at that time, so he said, "By Allah! I will not give you any ride." But when he turned to leave, he was called back and a ride was granted to him. He said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! You had sworn that you would not give me a ride?" The Prophet replied, "Now I swear that I will surely give you a ride."
Hadith 13621
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، وَشُعَيْبُ بْنُ الْحَبْحَابِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ الدَّجَّالَ أَعْوَرُ ، وَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ لَيْسَ بِأَعْوَرَ ، بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ : ك ف ر ، يَقْرَؤُهُ كُلُّ مُؤْمِنٍ قَارِئٌ وَغَيْرُ قَارِئٍ " ، وَقَدْ قَالَ حَمَّادٌ أَيْضًا : مَكْتُوبٌ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Dajjal will be one-eyed, and your Lord is not one-eyed, and between his (Dajjal's) two eyes will be written "Kafir" (disbeliever), which every literate and illiterate Muslim will be able to read.
Hadith 13622
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ ، وَلَهُمْ يَوْمَانِ يَلْعَبُونَ فِيهِمَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَا هَذَانِ الْيَوْمَانِ ؟ قَالُوا : كُنَّا نَلْعَبُ فِيهِمَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ . قَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ أَبْدَلَكُمْ بِهِمَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُمَا : يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ ، وَيَوْمَ النَّحْرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah, he found that there were two days in which the people used to celebrate festivals since the days of ignorance. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah has given you better days than these in exchange—Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
Hadith 13623
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " مَا كَانَ شَخْصٌ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِمْ رُؤْيَةً مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَكَانُوا إِذَا رَأَوْهُ لَمْ يَقُومُوا ، لِمَا يَعْلَمُونَ مِنْ كَرَاهِيَتِهِ لِذَلِكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the eyes of the noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them), there was no one more beloved than the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but they would not stand up upon seeing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) because they knew that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not consider it good.
Hadith 13624
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : لَمَّا أَقْبَلَ أَهْلُ الْيَمَنِ ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " قَدْ جَاءَكُمْ أَهْلُ الْيَمَنِ ، هُمْ أَرَقُّ مِنْكُمْ قُلُوبًا " ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ : وَهُمْ أَوَّلُ مَنْ جَاءَ بِالْمُصَافَحَةِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: People have come to you from Yemen who are more tender-hearted than you, and they are the first people who brought the practice of handshaking with them.
Hadith 13625
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِأَنَسٍ : " أَيُّ اللِّبَاسِ كَانَ أَحَبَّ أَوْ أَعْجَبَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : الْحِبَرَةُ " .
Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), "Which clothing was most liked by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?" He replied: The striped Yemeni cloak.
Hadith 13626
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : " أَنَّ مَلِكَ الرُّومِ أَهْدَى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُسْتُقَةً مِنْ سُنْدُسٍ ، فَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى يَدَيْهَا تَذَبْذَبَانِ مِنْ طُولِهِمَا ، فَجَعَلَ الْقَوْمُ يَلْتَمِسُونَهَا ، وَيَقُولُونَ : أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذِهِ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ ؟ قَالَ : وَمَا يُعْجِبُكُمْ مِنْهَا ؟ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، لَمَنْدِيلٌ مِنْ مَنَادِيلِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ هَذِهِ ، ثُمَّ بَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَى جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالَ : فَلَبِسَهَا جَعْفَرٌ ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنِّي لَمْ أَبْعَثْ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَلْبَسَهَا ، قَالَ : فَمَا أَصْنَعُ بِهَا ؟ قَالَ : ابْعَثْ بِهَا إِلَى أَخِيكَ النَّجَاشِيِّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the king of Rome sent to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a silk cloak "in which there was gold embroidery." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wore it, and because it was long, it was trailing from the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) hands. People began to say, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Has this been sent down to you from the heavens?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Are you amazed at this? By the One in Whose hand is my soul, in Paradise, the handkerchiefs of Sa’d bin Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) are far better than this." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent that cloak to Hazrat Ja’far (may Allah be pleased with him). He wore it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I did not give it to you to wear." He asked, "Then what should I do with it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Send it to your brother Najashi."
Hadith 13627
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى أَنْ يُنْتَبَذَ التَّمْرُ وَالْبُسْرُ جَمِيعًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade making nabidh by mixing unripe and ripe dates together.
Hadith 13628
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، وَبَهْزٌ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسٌ ، قَالَ بَهْزٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ : قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ أَحَدٌ يَسُرُّهُ يَرْجِعُ ، وَقَالَ بَهْزٌ : أَنْ يَرْجِعَ إِلَى الدُّنْيَا وَلَهُ عَشَرَةُ أَمْثَالِهَا ، إِلَّا الشَّهِيدُ ، فَإِنَّهُ وَدَّ لَوْ أَنَّهُ رَجَعَ ، قَالَ بَهْزٌ : رَجَعَ إِلَى الدُّنْيَا فَاسْتُشْهِدَ ، لِمَا رَأَى مِنَ الْفَضْلِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No person who enters Paradise will ever wish to leave Paradise, except the martyr, who will wish to return to the world and be martyred again in the way of Allah, because he will see the honor that has been bestowed upon him.
Hadith 13629
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا يُؤْمِنُ عَبْدٌ ، حَتَّى يُحِبَّ لِأَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ مَا يُحِبُّهُ لِنَفْسِهِ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: None of you can be a believer until he likes for his brother or neighbor what he likes for himself.
Hadith 13630
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : " أَخَضَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : لَمْ يَبْلُغْ ذَلِكَ ، إِنَّمَا كَانَ شَيْئًا فِي صُدْغَيْهِ ، وَلَكِنْ أَبُو بَكْرٍ خَضَبَ بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ " .
Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), "Did the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) use dye?" He replied, "That situation never arose; the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had only a few white hairs at his temples. However, Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) used to dye his hair with henna and katam."
Hadith 13631
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مَا أَعْلَمُ لَضَحِكْتُمْ قَلِيلًا وَلَبَكَيْتُمْ كَثِيرًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much.
Hadith 13632
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " أَتَى عَلَى رَجُلٍ يَسُوقُ بَدَنَةً ، فَقَالَ : ارْكَبْهَا ، قَالَ : إِنَّهَا بَدَنَةٌ ، قَالَ : وَيْلَكَ ارْكَبْهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a man who was driving a sacrificial animal. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told him to ride it. He replied, "This is a sacrificial animal." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told him two or three times to ride it.
Hadith 13633
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، وَبَهْزٌ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، قَالَ بَهْزٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ : قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا عَدْوَى وَلَا طِيَرَةَ ، وَيُعْجِبُنِي الْفَأْلُ ، الْكَلِمَةُ الطَّيِّبَةُ ، الْكَلِمَةُ الصَّالِحَةُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no reality in bad omens, however, I like a good and pure word (as a good omen).
Hadith 13634
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَحْوَهُ .
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 13635
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عِصَامٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَتَنَفَّسُ فِي الشَّرَابِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، وَيَقُولُ : إِنَّهُ أَرْوَى ، وَأَمْرَأُ ، وَأَبْرَأُ " ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ : وَأَنَا أَتَنَفَّسُ فِي الشَّرَابِ ثَلَاثًا .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to drink water in three breaths and used to say that this method is easier, more pleasant, and more beneficial.
Hadith 13636
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَصَمُّ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ أَنَسٌ عَنِ التَّكْبِيرِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ ، وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ ، فَقَالَ : " يُكَبِّرُ إِذَا رَكَعَ ، وَإِذَا سَجَدَ ، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ السُّجُودِ ، وَإِذَا قَامَ بَيْنَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ " ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لَهُ حَكِيمٌ : عَمَّنْ تَحْفَظُ هَذَا ؟ قَالَ : عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ ، ثُمَّ سَكَتَ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لَهُ حَكِيمٌ : وَعُثْمَانَ ؟ قَالَ : وَعُثْمَانَ .
Abdur Rahman Asam says that a person asked Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) about the command of saying Takbeer in prayer, so I heard him replying that when a person bows (ruku), prostrates (sajda), raises his head from prostration, and stands between two rak'ahs, he should say Takbeer. Hakeem asked him, "From whom do you remember this hadith?" He replied, "From the Prophet (peace be upon him) and from Hazrat Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them)." Then he became silent. Hakeem asked him, "Also from Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him)?" He replied, "Yes!"
Hadith 13637
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا إِيمَانَ لِمَنْ لَا أَمَانَةَ لَهُ ، وَلَا دِينَ لِمَنْ لَا عَهْدَ لَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He has no faith who is not trustworthy, and he has no religion who does not keep his promises."
Hadith 13638
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " جَاهِدُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ بِأَمْوَالِكُمْ ، وَأَنْفُسِكُمْ ، وَأَلْسِنَتِكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Strive against the polytheists with your life, wealth, and tongue.
Hadith 13639
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " نَزَلَتْ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُبِينًا سورة الفتح آية 1 إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ ، مَرْجِعَهُ مِنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ ، وَأَصْحَابُهُ مُخَالِطُو الْحُزْنِ وَالْكَآبَةِ ، فَقَالَ : نَزَلَتْ عَلَيَّ آيَةٌ هِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا جَمِيعًا ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا تَلَاهَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ : هَنِيئًا مَرِيئًا ، قَدْ بَيَّنَ اللَّهُ لَكَ مَاذَا يَفْعَلُ بِكَ ، فَمَاذَا يَفْعَلُ بِنَا ؟ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ الْآيَةَ الَّتِي بَعْدَهَا لِيُدْخِلَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ سورة الفتح آية 5 حَتَّى خَتَمَ الْآيَةَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was returning from Hudaybiyyah, signs of grief and distress were visible on the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) because they had been prevented from performing Umrah and had to sacrifice their animals at Hudaybiyyah itself. At that moment, this verse was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, We have given you a clear conquest... a straight path." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Two verses have been revealed to me which are more beloved to me than the whole world." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited them. Upon hearing this, a Muslim said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Congratulations to you, for Allah has granted you this bounty. What is there for us?" Upon this, the following verse was revealed: "That He may admit the believing men and believing women to gardens... a great success."
Hadith 13640
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، أَنَّ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، أَخْبَرَهُ : أَنَّ الزُّبَيْرَ بْنَ الْعَوَّامِ وَعَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ ، " شَكَوَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْقُمَّلَ ، فَرَخَّصَ لَهُمَا فِي قَمِيصِ الْحَرِيرِ فِي غَزَاةٍ لَهُمَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) and Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about lice, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted them permission to wear silk garments.
Hadith 13641
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " قَنَتَ شَهْرًا ، ثُمَّ تَرَكَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Qunoot Nazilah for a month, then he abandoned it.
Hadith 13642
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، وَبَهْزٌ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّ حَادِيًا لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، كَانَ يُقَالُ لَهُ : أَنْجَشَةُ ، قَالَ : وَكَانَ حَسَنَ الصَّوْتِ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " رُوَيْدَكَ يَا أَنْجَشَةُ ، لَا تَكْسِرْ الْقَوَارِيرَ " ، قَالَ قَتَادَةُ : يَعْنِي ضَعَفَةَ النِّسَاءِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man, whose name was Anjashah, had a very beautiful voice. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Anjashah! Carry these glass vessels gently."
Hadith 13643
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسٌ ، أَنَّ خَيَّاطًا بِالْمَدِينَةِ دَعَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِطَعَامِهِ ، قَالَ : فَإِذَا خُبْزُ شَعِيرٍ بِإِهَالَةٍ سَنِخَةٍ ، وَإِذَا فِيهَا قَرْعٌ ، قَالَ : فَرَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُعْجِبُهُ الْقَرْعُ " ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ : لَمْ يَزَلْ الْقَرْعُ يُعْجِبُنِي مُنْذُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعْجِبُهُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a tailor invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to a meal. When he brought the food, it contained old oil and pumpkin. I saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was searching for pumpkin in the bowl. From that time, I also began to like pumpkin.
Hadith 13644
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ يَعْنِي الْمُزَنِيَّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَطَاءً يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ ، يُحَدِّثُ وَلَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " لَمْ يُرْفَعْ إِلَيْهِ قِصَاصٌ قَطُّ ، إِلَّا أَمَرَ بِالْعَفْوِ " ، قَالَ ابْنُ بَكْرٍ : كُنْتُ أُحَدِّثُهُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، فَقَالُوا لِي : عَنْ أَنَسٍ لَا شَكَّ فِيهِ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : لَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا عَنْ أَنَسٍ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever a case of retribution (qisas) was presented before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) always encouraged forgiveness in it.
Hadith 13645
(حديث موقوف) (حديث مرفوع) وَزَادَ حُمَيْدٌ : عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلى الصَّلاَةِ ، فَلْيَمْشِ عَلَى نَحْوِ مَا كَانَ يَمْشِي ، فَلْيُصَلِّ مَا أَدْرَكَ وَلْيَقْضِ مَا سَبَقَهُ " . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ : وَالْإِرْمَامُ : السُّكُوتُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the prayer had been established when a man came quickly, his breath was heavy, and upon reaching the row he said, "Alhamdulillah hamdan katheeran tayyiban mubaarakan feehi." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he asked, "Who among you spoke?" He had said a good thing. So that man said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I spoke. I was coming quickly and when I reached near the row, I said this sentence." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I saw twelve angels rushing towards it to see who would raise this sentence first." Then he said, "When any of you comes for prayer, he should walk calmly. Whatever part of the prayer he catches, he should perform, and whatever he misses, he should complete (afterwards)."
Hadith 13646
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ " أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانُوا يَقُولُونَ وَهُمْ يَحْفِرُونَ الْخَنْدَقَ : نَحْنُ الَّذِينَ بَايَعُوا مُحَمَّدًا عَلَى الإسلام مَا بَقِينَا أَبَدًا وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ الْخَيْرَ خَيْرُ الْآخِرَهْ ، فَاغْفِرْ لِلْأَنْصَارِ وَالْمُهَاجِرَهْ " ، وَأُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِخُبْزِ شَعِيرٍ عَلَيْهِ إِهَالَةٌ سَنِخَةٌ ، فَأَكَلُوا مِنْهَا ، وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا الْخَيْرُ خَيْرُ الْآخِرَةَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were reciting this couplet while digging the trench: "We are the ones who have certainly pledged allegiance to Islam on the truthful hand of Muhammad (peace be upon him) until death." And the Prophet (peace be upon him) would respond with this phrase: "O Allah! The real goodness is the goodness of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajireen." Then barley bread was brought to the Prophet (peace be upon him) on which melted fat was placed. The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) ate from it, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The real goodness is the goodness of the Hereafter."
Hadith 13647
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " رَأَى نُخَامَةً فِي قِبْلَةِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَحَكَّهَا بِيَدِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw some nasal mucus on the Qibla side of the mosque, so he cleaned it with his own hand.
Hadith 13648
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " طَافَ عَلَى نِسَائِهِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ أَجْمَعَ . وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ حَمَّادٌ : فِي يَوْمٍ وَاحِدٍ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes visit all his pure wives in a single night with one bath.
Hadith 13649
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا ثَابِتٌ الْبُنَانِيُّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ إِنْ تَشَأْ لَا تُعْبَدْ فِي الْأَرْضِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Battle of Uhud, the supplication of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was: O Allah! Do You wish that after today, You are not worshipped?
Hadith 13650
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يَصُومُ حَتَّى يُقَالَ : قَدْ صَامَ ، وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى يُقَالَ : قَدْ أَفْطَرَ ، وَقَدْ قَالَ مَرَّةً : أَفْطَرَ أَفْطَرَ أَفْطَرَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to fast, people would inform each other that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had made the intention to fast, and when he broke his fast, people would also inform each other that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had broken his fast.

Hadith 13652
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يُغِيرُ عِنْدَ صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ ، فَكَانَ يَسْتَمِعُ ، فَإِنْ سَمِعَ أَذَانًا أَمْسَكَ ، وَإِلَّا أَغَارَ ، فَاسْتَمَعَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ ، فَسَمِعَ رَجُلًا ، يَقُولُ : اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، فَقَالَ : عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ ، فَقَالَ : أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، فَقَالَ : خَرَجْتَ مِنَ النَّارِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to prepare to attack the enemy at the time of dawn and would listen attentively; if he heard the sound of the adhan from there, he would stop, otherwise he would attack. One day, in the same manner, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) listened attentively and heard a man saying "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He is upon the sound nature." Then when the man said "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You have been saved from the fire of Hell."
Hadith 13653
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ ، قَالَ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا ، وَسَقَانَا ، وَكَفَانَا ، وَآوَانَا ، وَكَمْ مِمَّنْ لَا كَافِيَ لَهُ ، وَلَا مُؤْوِيَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to his bed, he would say: "All praise is due to Allah who has fed us, given us drink, sufficed us, and provided us with shelter. How many are there who have no one to suffice them or provide them with shelter."
Hadith 13654
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : مَرَّ بِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا أَلْعَبُ مَعَ الصِّبْيَانِ ، فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْنَا ، ثُمَّ دَعَانِي ، فَبَعَثَنِي إِلَى حَاجَةٍ لَهُ ، فَجِئْتُ وَقَدْ أَبْطَأْتُ عَنْ أُمِّي ، فَقَالَتْ : مَا حَبَسَكَ ؟ أَيْنَ كُنْتَ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى حَاجَةٍ ، فَقَالَتْ : أَيْ بُنَيَّ ، وَمَا هِيَ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : إِنَّهَا سِرٌّ ، قَالَتْ : " لَا تُحَدِّثْ بِسِرِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَحَدًا " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : وَاللَّهِ يَا ثَابِتُ ، لَوْ كُنْتُ حَدَّثْتُ بِهِ أَحَدًا ، لَحَدَّثْتُكَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was playing with some children, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and greeted us with salam. Then he took my hand and sent me on an errand. When I returned home, Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her, my mother) asked, "Why were you so late?" I replied, "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent me for some work." She asked, "What was the work?" I said, "It is a secret." She said, "Then safeguard the secret of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." By Allah! O Thabit! If I were to tell it to anyone, I would have told you.
Hadith 13655
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، أَلَمْ آتِكُمْ ضُلَّالًا فَهَدَاكُمْ اللَّهُ بِي ، وَأَعْدَاءً فَأَلَّفَ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِكُمْ بِي ؟ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمْ : أَلَا تَقُولُونَ : أَتَيْتَنَا طَرِيدًا فَآوَيْنَاكَ ، وَخَائِفًا فَأَمَّنَّاكَ ، وَمَخْذُولًا فَنَصَرْنَاكَ ؟ فَقَالُوا : بَلْ لِلَّهِ الْمَنُّ عَلَيْنَا وَلِرَسُولِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once said to the Ansar: "O group of Ansar! Is it not so that when I came to you, you were astray, and Allah granted you guidance through me? Is it not so that when I came to you, you were divided among yourselves, and Allah united you through me? Is it not so that when I came to you, you were enemies of one another, and Allah created affection in your hearts through me?" They replied, "Indeed, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then said, "Do you not also say that you received me when I came to you in a state of fear, and you gave me security; my people expelled me, and you gave me shelter; I was helpless, and you helped me?" They replied, "No, rather Allah and His Messenger have favored us."
Hadith 13656
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاصَلَ فِي رَمَضَانَ ، فَوَاصَلَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ ، فَأُخْبِرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْ مُدَّ لِي الشَّهْرُ ، لَوَاصَلْتُ وِصَالًا يَدَعُ الْمُتَعَمِّقُونَ تَعَمُّقَهُمْ ، إِنِّي أَظَلُّ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) observed continuous fasting (Saum Wisal) at the end of a month. Some people also did the same. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this, he said: "If this month had been longer, I would have continued fasting for so many days that those who go to extremes in religion would abandon their extremism. I am not like you; my Lord gives me food and drink."
