Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that all the prayers of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were almost equal in length, and likewise were the prayers of Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him). However, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) started making the Fajr prayer longer, and sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would raise his head from prostration or bowing and would pause for so long between the two that we would begin to think that perhaps the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had forgotten.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have been granted Kawthar, it is a river that flows on the surface of the earth, on both its banks are tents of pearls which have not been broken, I touched its soil and found it to be pure musk, and its pebbles were pearls.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: None of you should wish for death because of any hardship that befalls him. If wishing for death becomes necessary, then he should say: O Allah! Keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and grant me death when death is better for me.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would often supplicate: O Allah! O our Lord! Grant us goodness in this world and grant us goodness in the Hereafter and save us from the punishment of Hell.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding a bowl that I have served every kind of drink to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in this bowl: honey, water, and milk as well.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not observe continuous fasting for several days with only one pre-dawn meal (suhoor). Someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! You do it this way?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: I am not like you in this matter; my Lord gives me food and drink.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man who was intoxicated was brought before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered about twenty men, and each of them struck him with two branches or shoes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on a journey before the sun had passed its zenith, he would delay the Zuhr prayer until the time of Asr, then dismount and perform both prayers together. And if the time of zenith occurred before setting out on the journey, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would first perform the Zuhr prayer and then mount (his ride).

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever wishes that blessings be bestowed in his life and his sustenance be increased, he should maintain ties of kinship.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If the son of Adam had two valleys full of gold, he would desire a third, and nothing fills the mouth of the son of Adam except the dust of the grave. And whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance.

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Change the whiteness of the hair, but do not go near black color.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shall I not tell you about the prayer of a hypocrite? The hypocrite delays the Asr prayer until, when the sun is between the two horns of Satan, he stands to pray and pecks four times, remembering Allah very little in it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, all the Muslims will gather together. This thought will be put into their hearts and they will say: If we take someone to intercede before our Lord, perhaps He will grant us relief from this place. So they will go to Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him) and say: O Adam! You are the father of mankind, Allah created you with His own hand, made the angels prostrate to you, and taught you the names of all things. Therefore, intercede for us with our Lord so that He may deliver us from this place. Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him) will reply: I am not worthy of this, and he will remember his mistake and feel shy before his Lord and say: Go to Hazrat Nuh (peace be upon him), for he was the first messenger whom Allah sent to the people of the earth. So all the people will go to Hazrat Nuh (peace be upon him) and say to him: Intercede for us with your Lord. He will reply: What you seek is not with me. Go to Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him), for Allah made him His close friend (Khalil). So all the people will go to Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and he will also say: What you seek is not with me, but go to Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him), for Allah spoke to him directly and gave him the Torah. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) will also excuse himself, saying: I killed a person unjustly, but go to Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him), who was Allah’s servant, His messenger, His word, and a spirit from Him. But Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him) will also excuse himself and say: Go to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), he will intercede for you, whose past and future shortcomings Allah has forgiven. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I will seek permission to present myself before my Lord, which will be granted to me. I will fall in prostration before my Lord, and Allah will let me remain in prostration as long as He wills. Then it will be said to me: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Raise your head, whatever you say will be heard, whatever you ask will be granted, and whoever you intercede for, your intercession will be accepted. So I will raise my head and praise Allah with such praises as He will teach me, then I will intercede, and Allah will set a limit for me, and I will admit them into Paradise and return again. This will happen three times. The fourth time I will say: O Lord! Only those remain whom the Qur’an has kept back. So every person will be taken out of Hell who says La ilaha illallah and in whose heart there is even the weight of a barley grain of goodness. Then every person will be taken out of Hell who says La ilaha illallah and in whose heart there is even the weight of a wheat grain of goodness. And every person will be taken out of Hell who says La ilaha illallah and in whose heart there is even the weight of a mustard seed of goodness.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that upon the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her) began to weep. Someone asked her, "Why are you weeping over the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" She replied, "I know that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has departed from this world; I am weeping over the revelation that has ceased."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There are three things, whoever possesses them will taste the sweetness of faith: First, that Allah and His Messenger are more beloved to him than anyone else; second, that when he loves someone, he loves him only for the sake of Allah; and third, that after being saved from disbelief, he dislikes returning to it just as he would dislike being thrown into the fire.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the night of Mi'raj, I passed by Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) near the red mound and saw that he was standing in his grave performing prayer.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the house of Hazrat Umm Haram (may Allah be pleased with her). We presented dates and ghee before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was fasting that day, so he said, "Put the dates in its container and the ghee in its bucket." Then, standing in a corner of the house, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered two units of prayer. We also prayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for Hazrat Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) and her family. Hazrat Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I have a special thing as well." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "What is that?" She replied, "Your servant Anas." Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not leave out any good of this world or the Hereafter except that he asked it for me, and he said, "O Allah! Grant him wealth and children and bless them for him." Consequently, after that, there was no person among the Ansar wealthier than me, although previously he did not own any gold or silver except his ring. And he himself says that my eldest daughter Amina told me that until the coming of Hajjaj bin Yusuf, more than one hundred and twenty people from my descendants had died and been buried.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the time for prayer came, so every person who had a house in Madinah got up and went away to relieve himself and perform ablution. Some emigrants remained who had no house in Madinah. A large vessel of water was brought to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hands in it, but the vessel was not spacious enough, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed only four fingers in it and said, "Come near and perform ablution from it." At that time, the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the vessel. So all of them performed ablution from it, and not a single person remained who did not perform ablution, and still the same amount of water remained in it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man addressed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! O our chief, son of our chief! O our best, son of our best!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O people! Make piety obligatory upon yourselves, lest Satan attack you. I am only Muhammad bin Abdullah, Allah's servant and His messenger. By Allah! I do not like that you exaggerate my status beyond what it is with Allah."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his noble wife used to perform ghusl from the same vessel.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have commanded you frequently to use the miswak.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Between the eyes of the Dajjal, 'Kafir' (disbeliever) will be written, which every Muslim will read, whether he is illiterate or literate."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the night meal is brought before you and the prayer is established, then eat the food first.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Qunoot Nazilah after bowing (ruku) for a month, then he abandoned it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The first to be clothed with the garments of Hell will be Iblis, and he will place them on his eyebrows. Behind him, his progeny will be dragged, and Satan will be crying out, "Woe to me!" and his progeny will also be saying, "Woe to us!" Saying this, they will reach the edge of Hell and stop there. Satan will again say, "Woe to me!" and his progeny will also say the same. At that moment, it will be said to them: "Do not call for one destruction today, but call for many destructions."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In the army, the voice of Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) is heavier than many of the polytheists.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The lower garment should be up to the middle of the shin. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw that this was causing difficulty for the Muslims, he said: Make it up to the ankles; there is no good in letting it go below that.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the hair of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not extend beyond the earlobes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The sign of hypocrisy is to have enmity towards the Ansar, and the sign of faith is to love the Ansar.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn, when Allah granted the spoils of Banu Hawazin to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) began giving one hundred camels each to Uyaina, Aqra’, and others, some of the Ansar said, "May Allah forgive the Prophet (peace be upon him); he is giving to the Quraysh and ignoring us, while the drops of blood are still dripping from our swords." When the Prophet (peace be upon him) learned of this, he called the Ansari companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and said, "Are you not pleased that people go away with wealth and property, and you return home with the Messenger of Allah?" They replied, "Why not, O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)!" Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace be upon him), if people were to walk in one valley and the Ansar in another, I would choose the valley and mountain pass of the Ansar. The Ansar are my shield, and if there had been no migration, I would have been one of the Ansar."

Affan narrated to us, Shubah narrated to us, from Abu al-Tayyah, he said: I heard Anas say: The Ansar said on the day of the conquest of Mecca, and he gave (gifts) to Quraysh, "Indeed, this is astonishing," and he mentioned its meaning.

Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that we used to visit Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), and he had a baker appointed for him. One day he said to us: "Eat, but to my knowledge, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) never saw fine bread with his own eyes, nor did he ever eat a whole roasted goat, until he met Allah."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any of you becomes drowsy while praying, he should go back and sleep.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, every deceiver will have a flag.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade selling fruit before it ripens, grapes before they turn black (into raisins), and wheat before its grain hardens.

Humaid (may Allah have mercy on him) says that whenever Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he would conclude by saying, "Or as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade three things: visiting graveyards, eating the meat of sacrifice after three days, and drinking nabidh (fermented drink) in dubba, naqir, hantam, and muzaffat vessels. Then, after some time had passed, he said: I had previously forbidden you from three things, but now my opinion about them has become clear. I had forbidden you from visiting graveyards, but now my opinion is that it softens the heart, brings tears to the eyes, and reminds one of the Hereafter, so visit the graveyards, but do not indulge in idle talk. Similarly, I had forbidden you from eating the meat of sacrifice after three days, but now my opinion is that people give this meat as gifts to their guests and keep it stored for those who are absent, so you may keep it for as long as you wish. Also, I had forbidden you from drinking nabidh in those vessels, but now you may drink from whichever vessel you wish, but do not drink anything intoxicating. Now, whoever wishes, let him seal the mouth of his waterskin against anything sinful.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to visit a Bedouin who had a fever. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "If Allah wills, this fever will be an expiation for your sins and a means of purification for you." The Bedouin replied, "No, this is a raging fever that has come upon an old man and will not leave him until it shows him his grave." Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) left him and stood up.
