Hadith 13497
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : لَقَدْ دُعِيَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ عَلَى خُبْزِ شَعِيرٍ ، وَإِهَالَةٍ سَنِخَةٍ ، قَالَ : وَلَقَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ ذَاتَ يَوْمِ الْمِرَارِ ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ ، مَا أَصْبَحَ عِنْدَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَاعُ حَبٍّ ، وَلَا صَاعُ تَمْرٍ " ، وَإِنَّ لَهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ تِسْعَ نِسْوَةٍ . وَلَقَدْ رَهَنَ دِرْعًا لَهُ عِنْدَ يَهُودِيٍّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، أَخَذَ مِنْهُ طَعَامًا ، فَمَا وَجَدَ لَهَا مَا يَفْتَكُّهَا بِهِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once barley bread and old oil were brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I heard him say one day that this evening, the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) does not have even a sa’ of grain or wheat. At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had nine pure wives. And the armor of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was mortgaged with a Jew in Madinah Munawwarah; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had taken some barley from him for a few months, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had nothing with which to redeem it.
Hadith 13498
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " لَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَيْنِ مِنْ مَالٍ ، لَابْتَغَى وَادِيًا ثَالِثًا ، وَلَا يَمْلَأُ جَوْفَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ ، وَيَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If the son of Adam had two valleys full of gold, he would desire a third one, and nothing fills the mouth of the son of Adam except the dust of the grave. And whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance.
Hadith 13499
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الْمَدِينَةُ حَرَامٌ مِنْ لَدُنْ كَذَا إِلَى كَذَا ، فَمَنْ أَحْدَثَ حَدَثًا ، أَوْ آوَى مُحْدِثًا ، فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ ، لَا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا ، قَالَ : وَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ : إِلَّا لِعَلَفِ بَعِيرٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared Madinah Munawwarah as a sanctuary from this place to that place and said: Whoever introduces an innovation here or gives refuge to an innovator, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. The trees here should not be cut.
Hadith 13500
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " رَأَى نُخَامَةً فِي قِبْلَةِ الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَحَتَّهَا بِيَدِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw some nasal mucus on the Qibla side of the mosque, so he cleaned it with his own hand.
Hadith 13501
(حديث قدسي) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَبْتَلِيهِ اللَّهُ بِبَلَاءٍ فِي جَسَدِهِ ، إِلَّا قَالَ اللَّهُ لِلْمَلَكِ : اكْتُبْ لَهُ صَالِحَ عَمَلِهِ الَّذِي كَانَ يَعْمَلُهُ ، فَإِنْ شَفَاهُ اللَّهُ ، غَسَلَهُ وَطَهَّرَهُ ، وَإِنْ قَبَضَهُ ، غَفَرَ لَهُ وَرَحِمَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Allah Almighty afflicts any Muslim servant with a physical illness, He commands the angels to continue recording the reward of all the good deeds that he used to do. Then, if He grants him recovery, Allah has cleansed and purified him, and if He calls him back to Himself, He forgives him and has mercy on him.
Hadith 13502
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، عَنْ بَيَانٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " بَنَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِامْرَأَةٍ ، فَدَعَا رِجَالًا عَلَى الطَّعَامِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married a woman and invited the people to a meal.
Hadith 13503
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَارَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَاذَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : " أَنَّ الْمُؤَذِّنَ أَوْ بِلَالًا كَانَ يُقِيمُ ، فَيَدْخُلُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَيَسْتَقْبِلُهُ الرَّجُلُ فِي الْحَاجَةِ ، فَيَقُومُ مَعَهُ حَتَّى تَخْفِقَ عَامَّتُهُمْ رُؤُوسُهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that sometimes the mu’adhdhin would say the iqamah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter the mosque. Then a man would come to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from the front for some need of his, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand with him, until most people’s heads would begin to nod from drowsiness.
Hadith 13504
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَارَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادٌ النُّمَيْرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " إِذَا عَلَا نَشْزًا مِنَ الْأَرْضِ ، قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الشَّرَفُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَرَفٍ ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would ascend a hill or a high place, he would say: O Allah! On every height is Your greatness, and for every praise is Your praise.
Hadith 13505
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هِلَالٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَطَرٌ الْوَرَّاقُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَطُوفُ عَلَى تِسْعِ نِسْوَةٍ فِي ضَحْوَةٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes visit all his pure wives in a single night with only one bath.
Hadith 13506
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ الْحَبْحَابِ ، وَعَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ ، وَثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " أَعْتَقَ صَفِيَّةَ ، وَجَعَلَ عِتْقَهَا صَدَاقَهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) freed Hazrat Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), daughter of Huyayy, and made her freedom itself her dowry.
Hadith 13507
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : " أَنَّ رَجُلًا اطَّلَعَ فِي بَعْضِ حُجَرِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَيْهِ ، فَأَخَذَ مِشْقَصًا أَوْ مَشَاقِصَ ، شَكَّ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، ثُمَّ مَشَى إِلَيْهِ ، فَجَعَلَ يَخْتِلُهُ ، فَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ ، لَيَطْعَنُ بِهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting in his house when a man came and began to peep inside through a hole. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the comb he was holding in his hand and moved towards him, so the man began to withdraw. It seemed as if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would strike him with that comb.
Hadith 13508
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا أَرَادَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَحْلِقَ الْحَجَّامُ رَأْسَهُ ، أَخَذَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ شَعَرَ أَحَدِ شِقَّيْ رَأْسِهِ بِيَدِهِ ، فَأَخَذَ شَعَرَهُ ، وَجَاءَ بِهِ إِلَى أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ ، قَالَ : فَكَانَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ تَدُوفُهُ فِي طِيبِهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to have his head shaved (on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage), Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) took some hair from a part of his head in his hands. Then those hairs were taken by Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her), and she used to keep them in her perfume and shake them in it.
Hadith 13509
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " صَلَّى فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ ، وَأُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ وَأُمُّ حَرَامٍ خَلْفَنَا ، وَلَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا قَالَ : أَقَامَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer. This incident took place at the house of Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her), and Umm Sulaim and Umm Haram were standing behind us, and he probably also said that he made me stand on his right side. In any case, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for all the good of this world and the Hereafter for our household. Then my mother said, "O Messenger of Allah! Please pray for your servant Anas." Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for every good of this world and the Hereafter for me and said, "O Allah! Grant him wealth and children and bless him in them."
Hadith 13510
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، وَالْحَسَنِ ، أن رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " خَرَجَ مُتَوَكِّئًا عَلَى أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، وَعَلَيْهِ ثَوْبُ قُطْنٍ قَدْ خَالَفَ بَيْنَ طَرَفَيْهِ ، فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out leaning on Hazrat Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him). At that time, the blessed body of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was covered with a cotton garment, the two ends of which were thrown over his shoulders in opposite directions, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in prayer.
Hadith 13511
(حديث قدسي) حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " يُؤْتَى بِرَجُلٍ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ، فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ : يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ ، كَيْفَ وَجَدْتَ مَنْزِلَكَ ؟ فَيَقُولُ : أَيْ رَبِّ ، خَيْرَ مَنْزِلٍ ، فَيَقُولُ لَهُ : سَلْ وَتَمَنَّهْ ، فَيَقُولُ : مَا أَسْأَلُ وَأَتَمَنَّى إِلَّا أَنْ تَرُدَّنِي إِلَى الدُّنْيَا ، فَأُقْتَلَ ، لِمَا رَأَى مِنْ فَضْلِ الشَّهَادَةِ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ يُؤْتَى بِرَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ ، فَيَقُولُ لَهُ : يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ ، كَيْفَ وَجَدْتَ مَنْزِلَكَ ؟ فَيَقُولُ : أَيْ رَبِّ ، شَرَّ مَنْزِلٍ ، فَيَقُولُ : أَتَفْتَدِي مِنْهُ بِطِلَاعِ الْأَرْضِ ذَهَبًا ؟ فَيَقُولُ : نَعَمْ أَيْ رَبِّ ، فَيَقُولُ : كَذَبْتَ ، قَدْ سَأَلْتُكَ مَا هُوَ أَقُلُّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ ، فَلَمْ تَفْعَلْ ، فَيُرَدُّ إِلَى النَّارِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, a man from among the people of Paradise will be brought, and Allah Almighty will ask him, "O son of Adam! How did you find your abode?" He will reply, "O Lord! I found the best abode." Allah Almighty will say, "Ask and express your wish." He will submit, "My request and wish is only that You send me back to the world and I may be martyred in Your path a tenth time," because he will have seen the virtue of martyrdom. A person from among the people of Hell will be brought, and Allah will ask him, "O son of Adam! How did you find your abode?" He will say, "O Lord! The worst abode." Allah will say, "If you had everything on the face of the earth, would you give it all as ransom?" He will say, "Yes!" Allah will say, "You are lying. I had asked you for something much lighter than this in the world, but you did not fulfill it." Thus, he will be returned to Hell.
Hadith 13512
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " انْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ ، وَعُمَرُ ، وَنَاسٌ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ ، حَتَّى دَخَلَ دَارَنَا ، فَحُلِبَتْ لَهُ شَاةٌ ، وَشُنَّ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ مَاءِ بِئْرِنَا ، حَسِبْتُهُ قَالَ : فَشَرِبَ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ، وَعُمَرُ مُسْتَقْبِلُهُ ، وَعَنْ يَمِينِهِ أَعْرَابِيٌّ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَبُو بَكْرٍ ! فَأَعْطَاهُ الْأَعْرَابِيَّ ، فَقَالَ : " الْأَيْمَنُونَ " ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لَنَا أَنَسٌ : فَهِيَ سُنَّةٌ ، فَهِيَ سُنَّةٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, I was ten years old, and when he departed from this world, I was twenty years old. My mother used to encourage me to serve the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Once, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to our house. We milked a pet goat and mixed its milk with water drawn from the well of the house, and presented it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). On the right side of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was a Bedouin, and on the left side was Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had drunk from it, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) requested that it be given to Abu Bakr, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the vessel of milk to the Bedouin and said, "First to the one on the right, then to the next." Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that this is the Sunnah.
Hadith 13513
حَدَّثَنَا الْهَاشِمِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ حَزْمٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ .
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 13514
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ : رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " دَخَلْتُ الْجَنَّةَ ، فَسَمِعْتُ خَشَفَةً ، فَقُلْتُ : مَا هَذِهِ الْخَشَفَةَ ؟ فَقِيلَ : هَذِهِ الرُّمَيْصَاءُ بِنْتُ مِلْحَانَ " ، وَهِيَ أُمُّ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I entered Paradise and heard a sound ahead of me. I looked and it was Ghumaisa bint Milhan (who was the mother of Hazrat Anas, may Allah be pleased with him).

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ جُدْعَانَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " رَأَيْتُ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي رِجَالًا تُقْرَضُ شِفَاهُهُمْ بِمَقَارِيضَ مِنْ نَارٍ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا جِبْرِيلُ ، مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ ؟ قَالَ : هَؤُلَاءِ خُطَبَاءُ مِنْ أُمَّتِكَ ، يَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبِرِّ وَيَنْسَوْنَ أَنْفُسَهُمْ ، وَهُمْ يَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ ، أَفَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ ؟ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the night of Mi'raj, I passed by some people whose mouths were being cut with scissors of fire. I asked, "Who are these people?" It was said, "These are the preachers of the world who used to enjoin good upon others but forgot themselves, and they used to recite the Book. Did they not understand?"
Hadith 13516
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، وَعَفَّانُ ، المعنى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ الْبُنَانِيُّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمَّا صَوَّرَ آدَمَ ، تَرَكَهُ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَتْرُكَهُ ، فَجَعَلَ إِبْلِيسُ يَطِيفُ بِهِ ، فَلَمَّا رَآهُ أَجْوَفَ ، عَرَفَ أَنَّهُ خَلْقٌ لَا يَتَمَالَكُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Allah fashioned the figure of Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him), He left it as it was for some time. Satan would circle around that figure and observe it. When he saw that there was a belly in the middle of this creature’s body, he realized that this creature would not be able to control itself.
Hadith 13517
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ يَعْنِي الْمَخْزُومِيَّ ، وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " صَلَاةُ الْقَاعِدِ نِصْفُ صَلَاةِ الْقَائِمِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The reward for offering prayer while sitting is half of that for offering it while standing.
Hadith 13518
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ بْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " دَخَلَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ وَعَلَيْهِ الْمِغْفَرُ ، قَالَ : فَقِيلَ لَهُ : إِنَّ ابْنَ خَطَلٍ مُتَعَلِّقٌ بِأَسْتَارِ الْكَعْبَة ، فَقَالَ : اقْتُلُوهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the conquest of Makkah, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered Makkah, he was wearing a helmet. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took it off, someone came and informed him that Ibn Khatal was clinging to the curtains of the Ka'bah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Even then, kill him."
Hadith 13519
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَنْعَتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَنْعَتَهُ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا ، يَقُولُ : " وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَبْعَةً مِنَ الْقَوْمِ ، لَيْسَ بِالْقَصِيرِ وَلَا بِالطَّوِيلِ الْبَائِنِ ، أَزْهَرَ لَيْسَ بِالْآدَمِ ، وَلَا بِالْأَبْيَضِ ، وَلَا الْأَمْهَقِ ، رَجِلَ الشَّعْرِ ، لَيْسَ بِالسَّبْطِ وَلَا الْجَعْدِ الْقَطَطِ ، بُعِثَ عَلَى رَأْسِ أَرْبَعِينَ ، أَقَامَ بِمَكَّةَ عَشْرًا ، وَبِالْمَدِينَةِ عَشْرًا ، وَتُوُفِّيَ عَلَى رَأْسِ سِتِّينَ سَنَةً ، لَيْسَ فِي رَأْسِهِ وَلِحْيَتِهِ عِشْرُونَ شَعَرَةً بَيْضَاءَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that regarding the blessed appearance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), it is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was of medium height; his height was neither very short nor very tall. His forehead was radiant, his complexion was wheatish and not completely white. His hair was slightly curly, neither completely straight nor very curly. He was appointed as a Prophet at the age of forty, stayed in Makkah Mukarramah for ten years, resided in Madinah Munawwarah for ten years, and departed from this world at the age of sixty. There were not even twenty white hairs in his head and beard.
Hadith 13520
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَرْكَبُ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي ثَبَجَ الْبَحْرِ أَوْ : ثَبَجَ هَذَا الْبَحْرِ ، هُمْ الْمُلُوكُ عَلَى الْأَسِرَّةِ ، أَوْ : كَالْمُلُوكِ عَلَى الْأَسِرَّةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A group from my Ummah will embark upon the surface of the sea (for jihad), and they will feel as if they are kings sitting on thrones.
Hadith 13521
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ وَهُمَا غَادِيَانِ إِلَى عَرَفَةَ : كَيْفَ كُنْتُمْ تَصْنَعُونَ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : كَانَ يُهِلُّ الْمُهِلُّ مِنَّا ، فَلَا يُنْكَرُ عَلَيْهِ ، وَيُكَبِّرُ الْمُكَبِّرُ ، فَلَا يُنْكَرُ عَلَيْهِ " .
Muhammad bin Abi Bakr says that I asked Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) what you people were doing on the day of Arafah? He replied that with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), some of us were saying *tahleel* and there was no objection to them, and some were saying *takbeer* and there was no objection to them either.
Hadith 13522
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " َشَهِدْتُهُ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاة وَالسَّلَامُ يَوْمَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَلَمْ أَرَ يَوْمًا أَضْوَأَ مِنْهُ ، وَلَا أَحْسَنَ مِنْهُ ، وَشَهِدْتُهُ يَوْمَ مَاتَ ، فَلَمْ أَرَ يَوْمًا أَقْبَحَ مِنْهُ " .
Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I have not seen a day more radiant and beautiful than the day when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) entered Madinah Munawwarah, and I have also witnessed the day of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) departure from this world, and I have not seen a day darker and more unpleasant than that day.
Hadith 13523
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي نَمِرٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " مَا صَلَّيْتُ وَرَاءَ إِمَامٍ قَطُّ ، أَخَفَّ صَلَاةً مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَا أَتَمَّ ، وَإِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيَسْمَعُ بُكَاءَ الصَّبِيِّ وَرَاءَهُ ، فَيُخَفِّفُ ، مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمِّهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I have not offered a lighter and more complete prayer behind any imam than the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sometimes, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would shorten the prayer upon hearing the cry of a child, fearing that its mother might be distressed.
Hadith 13524
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، كَانَ يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ ، وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ ، وَالْكَسَلِ وَالْهَرَمِ ، وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الْعَدُوِّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek refuge from eight things: grief, anxiety, helplessness, laziness, miserliness, cowardice, the burden of debt, and the dominance of enemies.
Hadith 13525
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ بِلَالٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْبَلَ مِنْ خَيْبَرَ ، " فَلَمَّا رَأَى أُحُدًا ، قَالَ : هَذَا جَبَلٌ يُحِبُّنَا وَنُحِبُّهُ ، فَلَمَّا أَشْرَفَ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ ، قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُحَرِّمُ مَا بَيْنَ لَابَتَيْهَا كَمَا حَرَّمَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ مَكَّةَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was returning from Khaybar. When the Uhud mountain came into view, he said, "This mountain loves us and we love it." Then, when he approached near Madinah, he said, "O Allah! I declare the area between its two mountains as sacred just as Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) declared Makkah as sacred."
Hadith 13526
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " لَا يَطْرُقُ أَهْلَهُ لَيْلًا ، كَانَ يَدْخُلُ غُدْوَةً ، أَوْ عَشِيَّةً " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), upon returning from a journey at night, would not enter his house without prior notice; rather, he would arrive in the morning or at noon.
Hadith 13527
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُخْتَارُ بْنُ فُلْفُلٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، لَوْ رَأَيْتُمْ مَا رَأَيْتُ ، لَضَحِكْتُمْ قَلِيلًا ، وَلَبَكَيْتُمْ كَثِيرًا ، قَالُوا : وَمَا رَأَيْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ الْجَنَّةَ وَالنَّارَ ، وَحَضَّهُمْ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ ، وَنَهَاهُمْ أَنْ يَسْبِقُوهُ بِالرُّكُوعِ وَالسُّجُودِ ، وَنَهَاهُمْ أَنْ يَنْصَرِفُوا قَبْلَ انْصِرَافِهِ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ ، وَقَالَ : إِنِّي أَرَاكُمْ مِنْ أَمَامِي ، وَمِنْ خَلْفِي " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards us after finishing the prayer and said: Indeed, I see you from in front of me as well as from behind me. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, if you had seen what I have seen, you would laugh little and weep much. The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What have you seen?" He replied, "I have seen Paradise and Hell with my own eyes." O people! I am your Imam, so do not go ahead of me in bowing, prostration, standing, sitting, or finishing (the prayer), for I see you from in front of me as well as from behind me.
Hadith 13528
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : بَلَغَ مُصْعَبَ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَرِيفِ الْأَنْصَارِ شَيْءٌ ، فَهَمَّ بِهِ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " اسْتَوْصُوا بِالْأَنْصَارِ خَيْرًا ، أَوْ قَالَ : مَعْرُوفًا ، اقْبَلُوا مِنْ مُحْسِنِهِمْ ، وَتَجَاوَزُوا عَنْ مُسِيئِهِمْ " ، فَأَلْقَى مُصْعَبٌ نَفْسَهُ عَنْ سَرِيرِهِ ، وَأَلْزَقَ خَدَّهُ بِالْبِسَاطِ ، وَقَالَ : أَمْرُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الرَّأْسِ وَالْعَيْنِ ، فَتَرَكَهُ .
Ali bin Zaid says that something happened between Mus'ab bin Zubair and a chief of the Ansar, because of which Mus'ab intended to question him. In the meantime, Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived there and said, "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Act upon the advice to treat the Ansar well, accept the good deeds of their righteous ones, and overlook the faults of their sinners.'" Upon hearing this, Mus'ab threw himself onto the couch, placed his cheek on the pillow, and said, "The command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is upon my eyes and head," and he let the matter go, saying this.
Hadith 13529
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَا سَيِّدَنَا وَابْنَ سَيِّدِنَا ، وَيَا خَيْرَنَا وَابْنَ خَيْرِنَا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، " قُولُوا بِقَوْلِكُمْ وَلَا يَسْتَهْوِيَنَّكُمْ الشَّيْطَانُ ، أَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، وَاللَّهِ مَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ تَرْفَعُونِي فَوْقَ مَا رَفَعَنِي اللَّهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man addressed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O our master, son of our master! O our best, son of our best!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O people! Make piety obligatory upon yourselves, lest Satan attack you. I am only Muhammad bin Abdullah, Allah's servant and His messenger. By Allah! I do not like that you exaggerate my status beyond what it is with Allah."
Hadith 13530
حَدَّثَنَاه الْأَشْيَبُ ، عَنْ حَمَّادٍ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ . وَعَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، وَقَال : " وَلَا يَسْتَجْرِيَنَّكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ " .
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 13531
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّ الْيَهُودَ دَخَلُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالُوا : السَّامُ عَلَيْكَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : السَّامُ عَلَيْكُمْ ، فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : السَّامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا إِخْوَانَ الْقِرَدَةِ وَالْخَنَازِيرِ ، وَلَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَغَضَبُهُ ، فَقَالَ : يَا عَائِشَةُ ، مَهْ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَمَا سَمِعْتَ مَا قَالُوا ؟ قَالَ : أَوَمَا سَمِعْتِ مَا رَدَدْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ ؟ يَا عَائِشَةُ ، " لَمْ يَدْخُلْ الرِّفْقُ فِي شَيْءٍ إِلَّا زَانَهُ ، وَلَمْ يُنْزَعْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا شَانَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that some Jews once came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and, while greeting, said "As-Saam Alaikum" (death be upon you). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also replied, "As-Saam Alaikum." Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), hearing this phrase of the Jews from behind, said, "O brothers of apes and swine! Death (sam), and the curse and wrath of Allah be upon you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) to remain calm. She submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Did you not hear what they said?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Aisha! Did you not hear what I replied to them? Gentleness, whenever it is present in something, adorns it, and whenever it is taken away from something, it makes it defective."
Hadith 13532
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ ، إِذْ " سَمِعَ رَجُلًا ، يَقُولُ : اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ ، قَالَ : أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : خَرَجَ هَذَا مِنَ النَّارِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were on a journey with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) listened attentively and heard a man saying "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He is upon sound nature (fitrah)." Then when he said, "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You have been saved from the fire of Hell."
Hadith 13533
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَمُرُّ بِالتَّمْرَةِ ، فَمَا يَمْنَعُهُ أَنْ يَأْخُذَهَا ، إِلَّا مَخَافَةَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنْ تَمْرِ الصَّدَقَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would find a date lying on the road, and if he did not fear that it might be from charity, he would eat it.
Hadith 13534
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنَّ نَفَرًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : لَا أَتَزَوَّجُ ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : أُصَلِّي وَلَا أَنَامُ ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : أَصُومُ وَلَا أُفْطِرُ ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : مَا بَالُ أَقْوَامٍ قَالُوا كَذَا وَكَذَا ، لَكِنِّي " أَصُومُ وَأُفْطِرُ ، وَأُصَلِّي وَأَنَامُ ، وَأَتَزَوَّجُ النِّسَاءَ ، فَمَنْ رَغِبَ عَنْ سُنَّتِي ، فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that one of the group of the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I will never get married," another said, "I will pray all night and avoid sleeping," and the third said, "I will always fast and never miss a day." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) learned of this, he said, "What is wrong with people that they say such things? I fast and also leave fasting, I pray and I also sleep, and I also marry women. So whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not from me."
Hadith 13535
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : مَرَّ رَجُلٌ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٌ جَالِسٌ ، فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ : " وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّ هَذَا فِي اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَخْبَرْتَهُ بِذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ : قُمْ فَأَخْبِرْهُ ، تَثْبُتْ الْمَوَدَّةُ بَيْنَكُمَا " ، فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي أُحِبُّكَ فِي اللَّهِ ، أَوْ قَالَ : أُحِبُّكَ لِلَّهِ ، فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ : أَحَبَّكَ الَّذِي أَحْبَبْتَنِي فِيهِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was sitting in the gathering of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man passed by. Someone among those sitting said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I love this person." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Have you told him this?" He replied, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then go and tell him." So that man stood up, went to him and said, "Brother! I love you for the sake of Allah." He replied, "May He for whose sake you love me, love you in return."
Hadith 13536
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَسْتَسْقِي ، فَبَسَطَ يَدَيْهِ ظَاهِرَهُمَا مِمَّا يَلِي السَّمَاءَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicating for rain, spreading his hands with the upper part of his palms facing towards the sky while making supplication.
