It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once barley bread and old oil were brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I heard him say one day that this evening, the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) does not have even a sa’ of grain or wheat. At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had nine pure wives. And the armor of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was mortgaged with a Jew in Madinah Munawwarah; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had taken some barley from him for a few months, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had nothing with which to redeem it.

Then those hairs were taken by Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her), and she used to keep them in her perfume and shake them in it.

In any case, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for all the good of this world and the Hereafter for our household. Then my mother said, "O Messenger of Allah! Please pray for your servant Anas." Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for every good of this world and the Hereafter for me and said, "O Allah! Grant him wealth and children and bless him in them."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, a man from among the people of Paradise will be brought, and Allah Almighty will ask him, "O son of Adam! How did you find your abode?" He will reply, "O Lord! I found the best abode." Allah Almighty will say, "Ask and express your wish." He will submit, "My request and wish is only that You send me back to the world and I may be martyred in Your path a tenth time," because he will have seen the virtue of martyrdom. A person from among the people of Hell will be brought, and Allah will ask him, "O son of Adam! How did you find your abode?" He will say, "O Lord! The worst abode." Allah will say, "If you had everything on the face of the earth, would you give it all as ransom?" He will say, "Yes!" Allah will say, "You are lying. I had asked you for something much lighter than this in the world, but you did not fulfill it." Thus, he will be returned to Hell.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, I was ten years old, and when he departed from this world, I was twenty years old. My mother used to encourage me to serve the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Once, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to our house. We milked a pet goat and mixed its milk with water drawn from the well of the house, and presented it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). On the right side of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was a Bedouin, and on the left side was Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had drunk from it, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) requested that it be given to Abu Bakr, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the vessel of milk to the Bedouin and said, "First to the one on the right, then to the next." Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that this is the Sunnah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that regarding the blessed appearance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), it is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was of medium height; his height was neither very short nor very tall. His forehead was radiant, his complexion was wheatish and not completely white. His hair was slightly curly, neither completely straight nor very curly. He was appointed as a Prophet at the age of forty, stayed in Makkah Mukarramah for ten years, resided in Madinah Munawwarah for ten years, and departed from this world at the age of sixty. There were not even twenty white hairs in his head and beard.

O people! I am your Imam, so do not go ahead of me in bowing, prostration, standing, sitting, or finishing (the prayer), for I see you from in front of me as well as from behind me.

Ali bin Zaid says that something happened between Mus'ab bin Zubair and a chief of the Ansar, because of which Mus'ab intended to question him. Upon hearing this, Mus'ab threw himself onto the couch, placed his cheek on the pillow, and said, "The command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is upon my eyes and head," and he let the matter go, saying this.

I am only Muhammad bin Abdullah, Allah's servant and His messenger. By Allah! I do not like that you exaggerate my status beyond what it is with Allah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also replied, "As-Saam Alaikum." Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), hearing this phrase of the Jews from behind, said, "O brothers of apes and swine! Death (sam), and the curse and wrath of Allah be upon you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) to remain calm. She submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Did you not hear what they said?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Aisha! Did you not hear what I replied to them? Gentleness, whenever it is present in something, adorns it, and whenever it is taken away from something, it makes it defective."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He is upon sound nature (fitrah)." Then when he said, "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You have been saved from the fire of Hell."

When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) learned of this, he said, "What is wrong with people that they say such things? I fast and also leave fasting, I pray and I also sleep, and I also marry women. So whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not from me."

He replied, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then go and tell him." So that man stood up, went to him and said, "Brother! I love you for the sake of Allah." He replied, "May He for whose sake you love me, love you in return."
