Hadith 13537
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever a man met the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would ask him, "How are you?" And he would always reply, "Alhamdulillah! I am well." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would respond, "May Allah keep you well." One day, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met him, as usual, he asked him, "How are you?" He replied, "I am well, provided that I am grateful." Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. He asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Previously, when you would ask about my condition, you would pray for me, 'May Allah keep you well,' but today you remained silent?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Earlier, when I would ask you, you would say, 'Alhamdulillah! I am well,' so I would respond, 'May Allah keep you well.' But today you said, 'If I am grateful,' so I became doubtful, and thus I remained silent."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the command of veiling (purdah) was revealed, I know the circumstances of that time better than anyone else. That night, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in seclusion with Hazrat Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), and in the morning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was a bridegroom. After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) invited people, they came, ate food, and left, but some people remained sitting there and stayed for quite a while until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself got up and went outside. I also went outside so that they might leave as well, but they kept sitting. This happened repeatedly. Meanwhile, Hazrat Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) was sitting in a corner. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) felt shy to say anything to them regarding her. On this occasion, this verse was revealed: "O you who believe! Do not enter the houses of the Prophet unless you are invited for a meal," and do not wait for its preparation. But when you are invited, then enter. Then, at the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the curtain was drawn.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the angel responsible for rain sought permission from Allah Almighty to present himself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Allah Almighty granted him permission. On this occasion, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), "Take care of the door so that no one comes in to us." After a short while, Hazrat Imam Hussain (may Allah be pleased with him) came and wanted to enter the house. Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) stopped him, but he jumped in and began to sit on the back, shoulders, and neck of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The angel asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "Do you love him?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Yes!" The angel said, "Remember! Your ummah will kill him. If you wish, I can show you the place where he will be martyred." Saying this, the angel struck his hand, and there came red soil in his hand. Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) took that soil and tied it in her scarf.

I went to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and conveyed the message. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Also those people sitting with me?" I replied, "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the companions (may Allah be pleased with them), "Get up." Meanwhile, I hurried home, and at that time I was anxious because of the large number of people with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) asked, "Anas! What happened to you?" Just then, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also arrived at the house and asked Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her), "Do you have any ghee?" She replied in the affirmative and said, "I have a container of ghee in which there is a little ghee." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Bring it to me." I brought the container to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) opened its lid, recited Bismillah, and made this supplication: "O Allah! Bless it abundantly." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her), "Pick it up." She picked it up, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to pour out the ghee from it, reciting Bismillah during this, and an amount equal to a potful of ghee came out. More than eighty people ate from it, but it was still left over, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) handed over to Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) and said, "Eat from it yourself and feed your neighbors as well."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while consulting people regarding the prisoners of the Battle of Badr, said: "Allah Almighty has given you power over them (now what is your opinion?)" Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Allow me to strike off all their necks." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from his suggestion and again said, "O people! Allah has given you power over them; yesterday they were your brothers." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) again stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Allow me to strike off all their necks." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from his suggestion and for the third time repeated his words. This time, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! In our opinion, you should forgive them and accept ransom from them." Upon hearing this, the sadness disappeared from the face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he forgave them and accepted ransom from them. On this occasion, this verse was revealed: "لَوْلَا كِتَابٌ مِنْ اللَّهِ سَبَقَ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَا أَخَذْتُمْ إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةَ"

Thabit Banani, may Allah have mercy on him, says that it has reached us that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), during his final illness, wrapped a cloth around his blessed body and sat and performed prayer behind Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) as the imam. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called Usama (may Allah be pleased with him), leaned his back against Usama’s chest, and said, "Usama! Lift me up." The narrator Yazid says that in my book, the name of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) was also mentioned (that this narration is reported from Anas, may Allah be pleased with him), but my teacher declared it to be munkar (unacceptable) and preserved it only with the name of Thabit.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to Haleeq Nasrani with this message: that he should send to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) those clothes which are with Maysarah. So I went to him and conveyed to him exactly as I was told: that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has sent me to you so that you may send to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) those clothes which are with Maysarah. He said, "Who is Maysarah? Which Maysarah? By God! Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) does not have even a single goat or shepherd." Hearing this, I returned. As soon as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me, he said, "The enemy of Allah has lied. I am the best of those who buy and sell. If any one of you gathers scraps of cloth and makes a garment out of them and wears it, it is far better than taking possession of something from a trust to which he has no right."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, he stayed in the upper part of Madinah in the neighborhood of Banu Amr bin Awf and remained there for fourteen nights. Then he sent for the chiefs of Banu Najjar. They came with their swords hanging by their sides. That scene is still before my eyes: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on his mount, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was behind him, and Banu Najjar were around them, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the courtyard of Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). In the beginning, wherever the time for prayer occurred, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray there, even in a goat enclosure. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a mosque to be built and called the people of Banu Najjar and said to them, "O Banu Najjar! Settle the price of this garden with me." They replied, "We will take its price only from Allah." At that time, there were some graves of polytheists, a wasteland, and a tree there. At the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the graves of the polytheists were dug up, the wasteland was leveled, and the tree was cut down. A tree was planted towards the qiblah side of the mosque, and the doors were made of stone. People would hand bricks to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say, "O Allah! The real life is the life of the Hereafter. O Allah! Help the Ansar and the Muhajirin." It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "When any one of you comes for prayer, he should walk calmly. Whatever part of the prayer he catches, he should pray, and whatever he misses, he should complete it (afterwards)."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, all the Muslims will gather together. This thought will be put into their hearts and they will say: If we take someone to intercede before our Lord, perhaps He will grant us relief from this place. So they will go to Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him) and say: O Adam! You are the father of mankind, Allah created you with His own hand, made the angels prostrate to you, and taught you the names of all things. Therefore, intercede for us with our Lord so that He may deliver us from this place. Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him) will reply: I am not worthy of this, and he will remember his mistake and feel shy before his Lord and say: Go to Hazrat Nuh (peace be upon him), for he was the first messenger whom Allah sent to the people of the earth. So they will all go to Hazrat Nuh (peace be upon him) and say to him: Intercede for us with your Lord. He will reply: What you seek is not with me. Go to Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him), for Allah made him His close friend (Khalil). So they will all go to Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and he will also say: What you seek is not with me, but go to Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him), for Allah spoke to him directly and gave him the Torah. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) will also excuse himself, saying: I killed a person unjustly, but go to Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him), who was Allah’s servant, His messenger, His word, and a spirit from Him. But Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him) will also excuse himself and say: Go to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), he will intercede for you, whose past and future mistakes Allah has forgiven. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I will seek permission to present myself before my Lord, and I will be granted permission. When I see my Lord, I will fall down in prostration. Allah will let me remain in prostration as long as He wills. Then it will be said to me: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Raise your head, whatever you say will be heard, whatever you ask will be granted, and whoever you intercede for, your intercession will be accepted. So I will raise my head and praise Allah with such praises as He will teach me, then I will intercede, and Allah will set a limit for me, and I will admit them into Paradise and return again. This will happen three times. The fourth time I will say: O Lord! Only those remain whom the Qur’an has held back, meaning for whom Hell has become obligatory. Then Qatadah recited the verse of Maqam Mahmood and declared this to be the Maqam Mahmood.

When the next Friday came, the same man requested, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Pray for the rain to stop."
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that there was a man who used to write for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He had also memorized Surah Al-Baqarah and Aal-e-Imran. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would dictate to him "Sami'an" and he would write "Sami'an Basiran" instead. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say, "Write it like this," but he would say, "I will write as I wish." Similarly, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would dictate "Aleema," he would write "Aleema Hakeema" instead. After some time, that man became an apostate and turned Christian, and began to say, "I used to write whatever I wanted for Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) among you all." When that man died, he was buried, but the earth threw him out. Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) told me that he went to the place where that man had died and found him lying outside.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn, when Allah granted the spoils of Banu Hawazin to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) began giving one hundred camels each to Uyaina, Aqra’, and others, some of the Ansar said, "May Allah forgive the Prophet (peace be upon him); he is giving to the Quraysh and ignoring us, while the drops of blood are still dripping from our swords." When the Prophet (peace be upon him) learned of this, he called the Ansari companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and said, "Are you not pleased that people go away with wealth and property, and you return home with the Messenger of Allah?" They replied, "Why not, O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)!" Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace be upon him), if people were to walk in one valley and the Ansar in another, I would choose the valley and mountain pass of the Ansar. The Ansar are my shield, and if there had been no migration, I would have been one of the Ansar."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Battle of Khaybar, I was riding behind Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) and my feet were touching the feet of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When we reached there, the sun had already risen and the people of Khaybar had taken out their cattle and had come out with their axes and mattocks. When they saw us, they said, "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his army have come." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said "Allahu Akbar" and declared, "Khaybar is destroyed, destroyed. When we descend into the courtyard of a people, the morning of those who have been warned is the worst." Allah Almighty inflicted defeat upon them.

He further says that Hazrat Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), who was very beautiful, came into the share of Hazrat Dihyah Kalbi (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bought her in exchange for seven persons and, after purchasing her, sent her to Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) so that she could adorn and prepare her as a bride. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered dates, cheese, and ghee for her wedding feast. Halwa was prepared from it and, after spreading a dining cloth, it was placed on it. People ate from it to their fill.

During this, people began to wonder whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would marry her or keep her as a slave. But when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made her ride on a mount, arranged a curtain, and seated her behind him, people understood that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had married her.

When they neared Madinah Munawwarah, people, according to their custom, began to dismount by jumping off their mounts. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also began to dismount in the same way, but the she-camel slipped and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fell to the ground, and Hazrat Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) also fell. The other noble wives were watching and said, "May Allah double this Jewess and do such and such to her." Meanwhile, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and arranged a curtain for her, then seated her behind him. I asked, "O Abu Hamzah! Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) really fall?" He replied, "Yes! By Allah, he fell."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I was also present at the wedding feast of Hazrat Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), and at this wedding feast, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fed the people plenty of bread and meat. All the others ate and left, but two men, after eating, sat there and began to talk. Seeing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself went out of the house. I also came out behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), to pass the time, went to the chambers of his noble wives one by one and greeted them. They would ask, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! How did you find your wife?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would reply, "Very good." Then, when he reached the door of his house, those two were still sitting and talking. When they saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returning, they stood up and left. Now I do not remember whether I informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of their departure or someone else did. In any case, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered his house from there. I also wanted to enter, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) hung a curtain and the verse of hijab was revealed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that among the Jews, when a woman was menstruating, they would neither eat nor drink with her, nor would they stay together in the same house. The noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, so Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "They ask you about menstruating women. Say: It is a harm, so keep away from women during menstruation and do not approach them until they are purified." After reciting this verse in full, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You may do everything except intercourse." When the Jews learned of this, they said: "This man opposes us in every matter." Then Hazrat Usayd bin Hudair (may Allah be pleased with him) and Abbad bin Bishr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The Jews are saying such and such things. Should we not even go near our wives? (So that we may completely oppose the Jews.)" Upon hearing this, the color of the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) changed, and we thought that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was displeased with them. Both of them also left from there, but shortly after, a gift of milk was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called both of them and gave it to them to drink. In this way, they understood that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was not displeased with them.
