It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent his maternal uncle Hazrat Haram (may Allah be pleased with him)—who was the brother of Hazrat Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her)—with those seventy companions (may Allah be pleased with them) who were martyred at the incident of Bi’r Ma‘unah. At that time, the leader of the polytheists was ‘Amir bin Tufayl. He once came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, “Accept one of three things regarding me: either the city dwellers be with you and the villagers be with me, or I be appointed as your successor after you, otherwise I will fight you with a thousand red and yellow horses and a thousand red and yellow camels from Banu Ghatafan.” Later, someone wounded him with a spear in the house of a woman from a certain tribe, and he began to say, “I have gotten a boil in the house of such-and-such tribe’s woman, like the one that appears in a camel. Bring me my horse.” He mounted the horse but did not get to dismount from its back; he died on the way.

Hazrat Haram (may Allah be pleased with him) set out with two men, one of whom belonged to Banu Umayyah and the other was lame. He said to both of them, “Stay close to me until I return. If you find me safe, that is very good; otherwise, if they kill me, you will be near me, and go inform the rest of the companions.” Saying this, Hazrat Haram (may Allah be pleased with him) proceeded. Upon reaching the relevant tribe, he said, “Do I have permission to convey the message of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to you?” They granted permission. Hazrat Haram (may Allah be pleased with him) began to mention the message before them, and the enemies signaled to a man from behind, who came from behind and thrust a spear through him so that it passed through his body. Hazrat Haram (may Allah be pleased with him) fell, saying, “Allahu Akbar! By the Lord of the Ka‘bah, I have succeeded!” Then they martyred all the companions (may Allah be pleased with them), except the lame man, who survived because he had climbed to the top of a mountain.

In this context, the following revelation was sent down—“which was recited earlier and was later abrogated”—that, “Convey this message to our people: We have met our Lord, and He is pleased with us and has made us pleased.” Meanwhile, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to supplicate against the tribes of Ri‘l, Dhakwan, Banu Lihyan, and ‘Usayyah—“who had disobeyed Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)”—for forty days.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, he had Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) seated behind him. Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) was elderly and well-known, whereas the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was young and not widely recognized. Therefore, if anyone met them on the way and asked, "Abu Bakr! Who is this person ahead of you?" he would reply, "He is showing me the way." The listener would think that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was showing him the way, while Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) meant the way of goodness by this.

Once, on the way, Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) looked back and saw that a horseman had come very close to them. He said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! This rider has reached us." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards him and said, "O Allah! Make him fall." At that very moment, his horse threw him off its back and stood neighing. The horseman said, "O Messenger of Allah! Give me a command." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Go back to your place and do not let anyone reach us." In the early part of the day, that person was striving against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but by the end of the day, he became a weapon for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Thus, as they continued their journey, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached a rocky area and camped there, and sent for the Ansar. They came, greeted both of them, and said, "Ride with peace and tranquility and come." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) mounted, and the Ansar surrounded them with armed guards for protection. Meanwhile, in Madinah Munawwarah, it was announced that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had arrived. People began peeking out to see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and started chanting, "The Messenger of Allah has come!"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) walked until he reached the house of Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) and dismounted there. While the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was talking to the household, Abdullah bin Salam heard the news. At that time, he was cutting dates in his orchard for his family. He quickly cut the dates, took them with him, and presented himself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), listened to his words, and then returned home.

Meanwhile, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the people, "Among our relatives, whose house is the closest?" Hazrat Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) presented himself and said, "This is my house and this is my door." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then go and arrange a place for us to rest." Hazrat Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) went and made the arrangements, then returned and said, "O Messenger of Allah! The arrangement for rest has been made. Both of you please come and rest with the blessing of Allah."

When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived, Abdullah bin Salam also came to him and said, "I bear witness that you are the true Messenger of Allah and have come with the truth. The Jews know that I am their chief, son of a chief, and a scholar, son of a scholar. Call them and ask them." So they came, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them, "O group of Jews! Fear Allah, by Allah, besides whom there is no deity. You know that I am the true Messenger of Allah and I have come to you with the truth, so accept Islam." They said, "We do not know anything."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, he stayed in the upper part of Madinah in the neighborhood of Banu Amr bin Awf and remained there for fourteen nights. Then he sent for the chiefs of Banu Najjar, who came with their swords hanging by their sides. That scene is still before my eyes: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was mounted on his ride, Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) was behind him, and the people of Banu Najjar were around them, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the courtyard of Hazrat Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him). In the beginning, wherever the time for prayer occurred, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray there, even in the sheep pens. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a mosque to be built and called the people of Banu Najjar and said to them, "O Banu Najjar! Settle the price of this garden with me." They replied, "We will take its price only from Allah." At that time, there were some graves of polytheists, a wasteland, and a tree there. At the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the graves of the polytheists were dug up, the wasteland was leveled, and the tree was cut down. A tree was planted towards the qiblah side of the mosque, and the doors were made of stone. People would hand bricks to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say, "O Allah! The real goodness is the goodness of the Hereafter. O Allah! Grant victory to the Ansar and the Muhajirin."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had the best character among all people. I had a brother whose name was Abu Umair. It is also reported that he had been weaned. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come, he would say to him, "Abu Umair! What happened to the Nughair?"—it was a bird with which he used to play. Sometimes, the time for prayer would come while he was at our house, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would clean the bedding beneath him and order water to be sprinkled on it, and then he would stand for prayer. We would stand behind him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would lead us in prayer. It should be noted that our bedding was made from palm branches.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I brought Abdullah, the son of Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him), to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was applying tar to his camels. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you have anything with you?" I replied, "I have Ajwa dates." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took a date, chewed it in his mouth to soften it, gathered his saliva, and put it into the child's mouth, and the child began to suck it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Dates are the beloved thing of the Ansar." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) named him Abdullah.
