Hadith 12779
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُبِينًا ، لِيَغْفِرَ لَكَ اللَّهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ سورة الفتح آية 1 - 2 ، قَالَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : هَنِيئًا مَرِيئًا لَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَمَا لَنَا ؟ فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ لِيُدْخِلَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا وَيُكَفِّرَ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّئَاتِهِمْ سورة الفتح آية 5 ، قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : كَانَ قَتَادَةُ يَذْكُرُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فِي قَصَصِهِ عَنْ أَنَسِ ابْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ : نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ لَمَّا رَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ ، إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُبِينًا ، لِيَغْفِرَ لَكَ اللَّهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ سورة الفتح آية 1 - 2 ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ : قَالَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : هَنِيئًا لَكَ . . . هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ : قَالَ : فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ كُلُّهُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، فَأَتَيْتُ الْكُوفَةَ ، فَحَدَّثْتُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ فَلَقِيتُ قَتَادَةَ بِوَاسِطٍ ، فَإِذَا هُوَ يَقُولُ أَوَّلُهُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، وَآخِرُهُ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، قَالَ : فَأَتَيْتُهُمْ بِالْكُوفَةِ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُمْ بِذَلِكَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was returning from Hudaybiyyah, this verse was revealed to him: "Indeed, We have given you a clear victory... a straight path." When the Muslims heard this, they said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Congratulations to you, for Allah has granted you this bounty. What is there for us?" Upon this, the following verse was revealed: "That He may admit the believing men and believing women to gardens... a great success."
Hadith 12780
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ : قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ زَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، إِنْ كَانَتْ الْوَلِيدَةُ مِنْ وَلَائِدِ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ لَتَجِيءُ ، فَتَأْخُذُ بِيَدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَا يَنْزِعُ يَدَهُ مِنْ يَدِهَا حَتَّى تَذْهَبَ بِهِ حَيْثُ شَاءَتْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that even an ordinary slave girl of Madinah would take hold of the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and take him away for her tasks, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not withdraw his hand from her.
Hadith 12781
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي الْأَنْصَارِيَّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ : " لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ سورة آل عمران آية 92 ، أَوْ قَالَ : مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يُقْرِضُ اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا سورة البقرة آية 245 ، جَاءَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، حَائِطِي الَّذِي بِمَكَانِ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، وَلَوْ اسْتَطَعْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنْ أُسِرَّهُ لَمْ أُعْلِنْهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اجْعَلْهُ فِي فُقَرَاءِ قَرَابَتِكَ " أَوْ قَالَ : " فِي فُقَرَاءِ أَهْلِكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse was revealed: "You cannot attain the highest level of righteousness until you spend from that which you love," and the verse: "Who is it that will lend Allah a goodly loan," Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! My such-and-such garden which is at such-and-such place, I give it in the name of Allah, and by Allah! If it were possible for me to keep it hidden, I would never let it be known." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Distribute it among the poor of your family."
Hadith 12782
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ هِلَالَ بْنَ أَبِي دَاوُدَ الْحَبَطِيَّ أَبَا هِشَامٍ ، قَالَ : أَخِي هَارُونُ بْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ حَدَّثَنِي ، قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ فَقُلْتُ : يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ ، إِنَّ الْمَكَانَ بَعِيدٌ ، وَنَحْنُ يُعْجِبُنَا أَنْ نَعُودَكَ ، فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ ، فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " أَيُّمَا رَجُلٍ يَعُودُ مَرِيضًا ، فَإِنَّمَا يَخُوضُ فِي الرَّحْمَةِ ، فَإِذَا قَعَدَ عِنْدَ الْمَرِيضِ غَمَرَتْهُ الرَّحْمَةُ " قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، هَذَا لِلصَّحِيحِ الَّذِي يَعُودُ الْمَرِيضَ ، فَالْمَرِيضُ مَا لَهُ ؟ قَالَ : " تُحَطُّ عَنْهُ ذُنُوبُهُ " .
Marwan bin Abi Dawood, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once I came to Hazrat Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, and said, "O Abu Hamzah! The place is far, but our heart desires to come to visit you." Upon this, he raised his head and said, "I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Whoever visits a sick person, he dives into the ocean of Allah's mercy, and when he sits by the patient, Allah's mercy covers him." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! This is the ruling for the healthy person who visits the sick; what is the ruling for the sick person?" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "His sins are forgiven."
Hadith 12783
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا الْمُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، وَعَفَّانُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ثَلَاثٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ وَجَدَ بِهِنَّ حَلَاوَةَ الْإِيمَانِ : أَنْ يَكُونَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَرَسُولُهُ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِمَّا سِوَاهُمَا وَأَنْ يَكْرَهَ الْعَبْدُ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ عَنِ الْإِسْلَامِ كَمَا يَكْرَهُ أَنْ يُقْذَفَ فِي النَّارِ ، وَأَنْ يُحِبَّ الْعَبْدُ الْعَبْدَ لَا يُحِبُّهُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There are three things, whoever possesses them will taste the sweetness of faith: First, that Allah and His Messenger are more beloved to him than anyone else; second, that when he loves someone, he loves him only for the sake of Allah; and third, that after being saved from disbelief, he dislikes returning to it just as he would dislike being thrown into the fire.
Hadith 12784
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ وَأَنَا ابْنُ تِسْعِ سِنِينَ ، فَانْطَلَقَتْ بِي أُمّي أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ إِلَى نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، هَذَا ابْنِي اسْتَخْدِمْهُ ، فَخَدَمْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تِسْعَ سِنِينَ ، فَمَا قَالَ لِي لِشَيْءٍ فَعَلْتُهُ لِمَ فَعَلْتَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ؟ وَمَا قَالَ لِي لِشَيْءٍ لَمْ أَفْعَلْهُ أَلَا فَعَلْتَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ؟ وَأَتَانِي ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَأَنَا أَلْعَبُ مَعَ الْغِلْمَانِ أَوْ قَالَ مَعَ الصِّبْيَانِ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْنَا ، ثمَّ دَعَانِي ، فَأَرْسَلَنِي فِي حَاجَةٍ ، فَلَمَّا رَجَعْتُ قَالَ : " لَا تُخْبِرْ أَحَدًا " ، فاحْتَبَسْتُ عَلَى أُمِّي ، فَلَمَّا أَتَيْتُهَا قَالَتْ : يَا بُنَيَّ ، مَا حَبَسَكَ ؟ قُلْتُ : أَرْسَلَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حَاجَةٍ لَهُ ، قَالَتْ : وَمَا هِيَ ؟ قُلْتُ : إِنَّهُ قَالَ : " لَا تُخْبِرَنَّ بِهَا أَحَدًا " قَالَتْ : أَيْ بُنَيَّ ، فَاكْتُمْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سِرَّهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, I was nine years old. Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) brought me to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! This is my son, please accept him for your service." I served the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for nine years. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never said to me, "Why did you do such-and-such a thing?" nor did he say, "Why did you not do such-and-such a thing?" Once, I was playing with children, and during that time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and greeted us with salam. Then he took my hand and sent me for some task. When I returned, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not tell anyone about this." Meanwhile, I was delayed in reaching home, so when I returned home, Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her), my mother, said, "Why did you take so long?" I told her that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent me for some task. She asked, "What was the task?" I said, "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade me from telling anyone." She said, "Then protect the secret of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Hadith 12785
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ أَبَا طَيْبَةَ حَجَمَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَمَرَ لَهُ بِصَاعٍ مِنْ تَمْرٍ ، وَكَلَّمَ أَهْلَهُ ، فَوَضَعُوا عَنْهُ مِنْ خَرَاجِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abu Taybah performed cupping for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that he be given one sa’ of dates, and when he spoke to his master, he reduced it for him.
Hadith 12786
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، أخبرنا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ : " سَلُونِي " فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَنْ أَبِي ؟ قَالَ : " أَبُوكَ حُذَافَةُ " لِلَّذِي كَانَ يُنْسَبُ إِلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ أُمُّهُ يَا بُنَيَّ لَقَدْ قُمْتَ بِأُمِّكَ مَقَامًا عَظِيمًا ، قَالَ : أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أُبَرِّئَ صَدْرِي مِمَّا كَانَ يُقَالُ ، وَقَدْ كَانَ يُقَالُ فِيهِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You may ask me about anything that will happen until the Day of Judgment." A man asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Who is my father?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Your father is Hudhafah." His mother said to him, "What was your purpose in asking this?" He replied, "I wanted to be free from what people were saying." In fact, there were some rumors about him.
Hadith 12787
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، وَحُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُعْجِبُهُ الْقَرْعُ ، فَكَانَ إِذَا جِيءَ بِمَرَقَةٍ فِيهَا قَرْعٌ ، جُعِلَتْ الْقَرْعُ مِمَّا يَلِيهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was very fond of pumpkin. Whenever a dish of pumpkin was brought, I would separate it and present it before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 12788
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّ عِتْبَانَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ذَهَبَ بَصَرُهُ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، لَوْ جِئْتَ صَلَّيْتَ فِي دَارِي أَوْ قَالَ فِي بَيْتِي لَاتَّخَذْتُ مُصَلَّاكَ مَسْجِدًا ، فَجَاءَه النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّى فِي دَارِهِ أَوْ قَالَ فِي بَيْتِهِ وَاجْتَمَعَ قَوْمُ عِتْبَانَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : فَذَكَرُوا مَالِكَ بْنَ الدُّخْشُمِ فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّهُ وَإِنَّهُ يُعَرِّضُونَ بِالنِّفَاقِ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَلَيْسَ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ؟ " قَالُوا : بَلَى ، قَالَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، لَا يَقُولُهَا عَبْدٌ صَادِقٌ بِهَا إِلَّا حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْهِ النَّارُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Utban (may Allah be pleased with him) began to complain about his eyes. He sent a message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), mentioning his difficulty, and requested, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), please come to my house and offer prayer so that I may make that place my prayer area." So, one day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to his house along with some of his companions (may Allah be pleased with them). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to pray, and the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) began talking among themselves and started mentioning the troubles caused by the hypocrites. They considered Malik bin Dukhaythum to be the most involved in this. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he said, "Does he not bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah?" A man said, "Why not, but it is not from his heart." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Whoever bears witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah, the fire of Hell is made forbidden for him."
Hadith 12789
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّ وَفْدًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ قَدِمُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَبْعَثَ مَعَهُمْ رَجُلًا ، فَقَالُوا : ابْعَثْ مَعَنَا رَجُلًا ، فَقَالَ : " أَبْعَثُ مَعَكُمْ أَمِينَ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ " فَبَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ ، وَفِي مَوْضِعٍ آخَرَ قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ابْعَثْ مَعَنَا رَجُلًا يُعَلِّمُنَا ، فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ ، فَقَالَ : " لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَمِينٌ ، وَهَذَا أَمِينُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the people of Yemen came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they requested the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to send a man with them who would teach them the religion. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I will send with you the trustworthy one of this Ummah." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) with them.
Hadith 12790
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْأَلُهُ ، فَأَعْطَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَنَمًا بَيْنَ جَبَلَيْنِ ، فَأَتَى الرَّجُلُ قَوْمَهُ ، فَقَالَ : أَيْ قَوْمِي ، أَسْلِمُوا ، فَوَاللَّهِ إِنَّ مُحَمَّدًا لَيُعْطِي عَطِيَّةَ رَجُلٍ مَا يَخَافُ الْفَاقَةَ ، أَوْ قَالَ : الْفَقْرَ ، قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ ثَابِتٌ قَالَ : قَالَ أَنَسٌ إِنْ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ لَيَأْتِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فيُسْلِمُ مَا يُرِيدُ إِلَّا أَنْ يُصِيبَ عَرَضًا مِنَ الدُّنْيَا أَوْ قَالَ دُنْيَا يُصِيبُهَا فَمَا يُمْسِي مِنْ يَوْمِهِ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى يَكُونَ دِينُهُ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ أَوْ قَالَ أَكْبَرَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came and asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for something. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that he be given many goats from the charity goats, "as many as could fit between two mountains." That man went back to his people and said, "O people! Accept Islam, because Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) gives so much that there is no fear of poverty or destitution." In another chain of narration, there is this addition: Sometimes a man would come to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and accept Islam only to obtain worldly goods, but by the evening of that day, the religion would become dearest to him above all else.
Hadith 12791
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، وَحَسَنٌ الْأَشْيَبُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ حَسَنٌ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، وَحُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " مَرَّ عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ الشَّهْبَاءِ بِحَائِطٍ لِبَنِي النَّجَّارِ ، فَسَمِعَ أَصْوَاتَ قَوْمٍ يُعَذَّبُونَ فِي قُبُورِهِمْ ، فَحَاصَتْ الْبَغْلَةُ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْلَا أَنْ لَا تَدَافَنُوا ، لَسَأَلْتُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ يُسْمِعَكُمْ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was riding his white mule and passed by a garden of Banu Najjar in Madinah Munawwarah. There, punishment was being inflicted in a grave, so the mule shied. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you people would not stop burying your dead, I would have prayed to Allah to let you hear the sound of the punishment of the grave."
Hadith 12792
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ غُلَامًا يَهُودِيًّا كَانَ يَضَعُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَضُوءَهُ ، وَيُنَاوِلُهُ نَعْلَيْهِ ، فَمَرِضَ ، فَأَتَاهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ وَأَبُوهُ قَاعِدٌ عِنْدَ رَأْسِهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَا فُلَانُ ، قُلْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ " فَنَظَرَ إِلَى أَبِيهِ ، فَسَكَتَ أَبُوهُ ، فَأَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَى أَبِيهِ ، فَقَالَ أَبُوهُ أَطِعْ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ ، فَقَالَ الْغُلَامُ : أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، وَأَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَخَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَخْرَجَهُ بِي مِنَ النَّارِ " ، حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ بن زيد ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، مِثْلَهُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Jewish boy used to bring water for ablution for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and would carry his shoes. Once, the boy fell ill. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to visit him, and his father was sitting by his head. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised him to recite the Kalimah. The boy looked at his father, who remained silent. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated his words, and again the boy looked at his father. His father said, "Obey Abul Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him)." So the boy recited the Kalimah. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left from there, he was saying, "All praise is due to Allah who saved him from the Fire because of me."
Hadith 12793

Hadith 12794
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، وَعَفَّانُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : حَضَرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ ، فَقَامَ جِيرَانُ الْمَسْجِدِ إِلَى مَنَازِلِهِمْ يَتَوَضَّئُونَ ، وَبَقِيَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ نَاسٌ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ ، مَا بَيْنَ السَّبْعِينَ إِلَى الثَّمَانِينَ ، فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَاءٍ ، فَأُتِيَ بِمِخْضَبٍ مِنْ حِجَارَةٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ ، فَوَضَعَ أَصَابِعَ يَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى فِي الْمِخْضَبِ ، فَجَعَلَ يَصُبُّ عَلَيْهِمْ وَهُمْ يَتَوَضَّئُونَ ، وَيَقُولُ : " تَوَضَّئُوا ، حَيَّ عَلَى الْوُضُوءِ " حَتَّى تَوَضَّئُوا جَمِيعًا ، وَبَقِيَ فِيهِ نَحْوٌ مِمَّا كَانَ فِيهِ " .
Narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the time for prayer came, so every person who had a house in Madinah got up and went for relieving himself and performing ablution. Some Muhajireen remained who had no house in Madinah, and they were between seventy and eighty in number. A large vessel of water was brought to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hands in it, but the vessel was not spacious enough, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed only four fingers in it and said, "Come near and perform ablution from it." At that time, the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the vessel. So all of them performed ablution from it, and not a single person remained who did not perform ablution, and still the same amount of water remained in it.
Hadith 12795
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، وَعَفَّانُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : انْطَلَقْتُ بِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ وُلِدَ ، فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ فِي عَبَاءَةٍ يَهْنَأُ بَعِيرًا لَهُ ، فَقَالَ لِي : " أَمَعَكَ تَمْرٌ ؟ " قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، فَتَنَاوَلَ تَمَرَاتٍ ، فَأَلْقَاهُنَّ فِي فِيهِ ، فَلَاكَهُنَّ فِي حَنَكِهِ فَفَغَر الصَّبِيُّ فَاهُ ، فَأَوْجَرَهُ الصبيَّ ، فَجَعَلَ الصَّبِيُّ يَتَلَمَّظُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَبَتْ الْأَنْصَارُ إِلَّا حُبَّ التَّمْرِ " وَسَمَّاهُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when a son, Abdullah, was born in the house of Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him), I took the child and presented him to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was applying tar to his camels. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Do you have any dates?" I replied, "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took a date, chewed it in his mouth to soften it, gathered his saliva, and put it into the child's mouth, which he began to suck. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Dates are a beloved thing of the Ansar," and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) named him Abdullah.
Hadith 12796
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالُوا لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّا إِذَا كُنَّا عِنْدَكَ فَحَدَّثْتَنَا ، رَقَّتْ قُلُوبُنَا ، فَإِذَا خَرَجْنَا مِنْ عِنْدِكَ ، عَافَسْنَا النِّسَاءَ وَالصِّبْيَانَ ، وَفَعَلْنَا وَفَعَلْنَا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ تِلْكَ السَّاعَةَ لَوْ تَدُومُونَ عَلَيْهَا ، لَصَافَحَتْكُمْ الْمَلَائِكَةُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted in the court of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "When we are in your presence and you narrate hadith to us, our hearts become tender, but when we leave your gathering, we become engrossed with our wives and children and get busy with our work." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "If this state were to remain with you always, then the angels would begin to shake hands with you."
Hadith 12797
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ابْنِ عُلَيَّةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ صُهَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَى الصِّبْيَانَ وَالنِّسَاءَ مُقْبِلِينَ قَالَ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ : حَسِبْتُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : مِنْ عُرْسٍ فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُمْثِلًا ، فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتُمْ مِنْ أَحَبِّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتُمْ مِنْ أَحَبِّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتُمْ مِنْ أَحَبِّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ " يَعْنِي الْأَنْصَارَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that some women and children of the Ansar were passing by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as they were coming from a wedding. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and said three times, "By Allah! You are the most beloved to me."
Hadith 12798
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسٌ ، قَالَ : عَطَسَ رَجُلَانِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا أَوْ قَالَ : فسَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا وَتَرَكَ الْآخَرَ ، فَقِيلَ : هُمَا رَجُلَانِ عَطَسَا ، فَشَمَّتَّ أَوْ قَالَ فَسَمَّتَّ أَحَدَهُمَا وَتَرَكْتَ الْآخَرَ ! فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، وَإِنَّ هَذَا لَمْ يَحْمَدْ اللَّهَ " قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ : أُرَاهُ نَحْوًا مِنْ هَذَا .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once, in the gathering of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), two men sneezed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied to one of them (by saying "Yarhamukallah") and left the other. Someone asked, "Two men sneezed, you replied to one of them, why did you not reply to the other?" He said, "He had said 'Alhamdulillah' and the other had not said it."
Hadith 12799
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ مَعَ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فأَتى عليهنَّ النبيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَهُوَ يَسُوقُ بِهِنَّ سَوَّاقٌ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : " يَا أَنْجَشَةُ ، رُوَيْدَكَ بِالْقَوَارِيرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a camel driver whose name was Anjasha. He was driving the mounts of the Mothers of the Believers. The mother of Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) was also with them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Anjasha! Drive gently with these glass vessels."
Hadith 12800
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ ، فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ " ، حدثنا به هَكَذَا مَرَّتَيْنِ ، وحدَّثَنا بِهِ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا ، فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever deliberately attributes a lie to me, he should make his abode in Hell.
Hadith 12801
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " لَا يُؤْمِنُ أَحَدُكُمْ حَتَّى يُحِبَّ لِأَخِيهِ أَوْ لِجَارِهِ مَا يُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِهِ " وَلَمْ يَشُكَّ حَجَّاجٌ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: None of you can be a believer until he likes for his brother or neighbor what he likes for himself.
Hadith 12802
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِنَّ الْأَنْصَارَ كَرِشِي وَعَيْبَتِي ، وَإِنَّ النَّاسَ سَيَكْثُرُونَ وَيَقِلُّونَ ، فَاقْبَلُوا مِنْ مُحْسِنِهِمْ ، وَاعْفُوا عَنْ مُسِيئِهِمْ " ، وَقَالَ حَجَّاجٌ : عَنْ مُسِنِّهِمْ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Ansar are my protection. People will continue to increase while the Ansar will decrease, so accept the good deeds of the Ansar and overlook and forgive their wrongdoers."
Hadith 12803
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : فَلا أَدْرِي أَشَيْءٌ أُنْزِلَ أَوْ كَانَ يَقُولُهُ : " لَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَيْنِ مِنْ مَالٍ ، لَتَمَنَّى أَوْ لَابْتَغَى وَادِيًا ثَالِثًا ، وَلَا يَمْلَأُ جَوْفَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ ، وَيَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ " ، حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : فَلَا أَدْرِي أَشَيْءٌ أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَذَكَرَهُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying—I do not know whether it was a verse of the Qur'an or a saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)—that if the son of Adam had two valleys full of wealth, he would desire a third, and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except the dust of the grave, and Allah accepts the repentance of whoever repents.
Hadith 12804
حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ، فَلَا أَدْرِي أَشَيْءٌ أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ, فَذَكَرَهُ
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 12805
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وحَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حدثني شعبةُ ، قال : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُتِيَ بِرَجُلٍ قَدْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ ، فَجَلَدَهُ بِجَرِيدَتَيْنِ نَحْوَ الْأَرْبَعِينَ ، قَالَ : وَفَعَلَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ عُمَرُ اسْتَشَارَ النَّاسَ ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ : أَخَفُّ الْحُدُودِ ثَمَانُونَ ، قَالَ : فَأَمَرَ بِهِ عُمَرُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man who had drunk alcohol was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck him about forty times with two branches. Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) did the same. But when the caliphate of Hazrat Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) began, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) consulted regarding this matter. Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the opinion that the lowest prescribed punishment is eighty lashes. Thus, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) fixed the punishment for drinking alcohol at eighty lashes.
Hadith 12806
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِحَدِيثٍ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ لَا يُحَدِّثُكُمْ أَحَدٌ بَعْدِي سَمِعَهُ مِنْهُ " إِنَّ مِنْ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ أَنْ يُرْفَعَ الْعِلْمُ ، وَيَظْهَرَ الْجَهْلُ وَيَفْشُوَ الزِّنَا ، وَيُشْرَبَ الْخَمْرُ ، وَيَذْهَبَ الرِّجَالُ وَتَبْقَى النِّسَاءُ ، حَتَّى يَكُونَ لِخَمْسِينَ امْرَأَةً قَيِّمٌ وَاحِدٌ " ، حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ : لَأُحَدِّثَنَّكُمْ حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " يَذْهَبُ الرِّجَالُ ، وَتَبْقَى النِّسَاءُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I will tell you a hadith which I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and after me, no one will narrate it to you. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that among the signs of the Day of Judgment is that knowledge will be taken away, ignorance will prevail, adultery will become widespread, and drinking of wine will become common. The number of men will decrease and the number of women will increase, to the extent that one man will be responsible for fifty women.
Hadith 12807
حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ : لَأُحَدِّثَنَّكُمْ حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ، فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ: «يَذْهَبُ الرِّجَالُ وَتَبْقَى النِّسَاءُ». [انظر : ١٣٩٤٦]
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 12808
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وَيَزِيدُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَوْلَا أَنْ لَا تَدَافَنُوا ، لَدَعَوْتُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ يُسْمِعَكُمْ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you were not to stop burying your dead, I would have prayed to Allah that He let you hear the sound of the punishment of the grave.
Hadith 12809
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي صَلَاةٍ ، فَإِنَّهُ يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ ، فَلَا يَبْزُقَنَّ قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ يَبْصُقَنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، وَلَا عَنْ يَمِينِهِ ، وَلَكِنْ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ وَتَحْتَ قَدَمِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you is praying, he is conversing with his Lord, so in this state none of you should spit to his right side, rather he should spit to his left side or under his foot.
Hadith 12810
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ ، فَلَمْ أَسْمَعْ أَحَدًا مِنْهُمْ يَقْرَأُ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ ، قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ : قَالَ شُعْبَةُ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ ، سَأَلْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتَفْتِحُ الْقِرَاءَةَ ؟ فَقَالَ : إِنَّكَ لَتَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ شَيْءٍ مَا سَأَلَنِي عَنْهُ أَحَدٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I have prayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and with the three Caliphs, and I did not hear any one of them reciting "Bismillah" aloud. Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), "With what did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) begin the recitation?" He replied, "You have asked me about something regarding which no one has asked me before."
Hadith 12811
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُحِبُّ الدُّبَّاءَ قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ : الْقَرْعَ قَالَ : فَأُتِيَ بِطَعَامٍ أَوْ دُعِيَ لَهُ ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ : فَجَعَلْتُ أَتَتَبَّعُهُ فَأَضَعُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ لِمَا أَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ يُحِبُّهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was very fond of pumpkin. Once, food was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or someone invited him, so since I knew that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked pumpkin, I kept separating it and placing it before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 12812
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " اعْتَدِلُوا فِي السُّجُودِ ، وَلَا يَبْسُطْ أَحَدُكُمْ ذِرَاعَيْهِ انْبِسَاطَ الْكَلْبِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Maintain moderation in prostrations and none of you should spread his hands like a dog.
Hadith 12813
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " سَوُّوا صُفُوفَكُمْ ، فَإِنَّ تَسْوِيَةَ الصُّفُوفِ مِنْ تَمَامِ الصَّلَاةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Keep your rows straight; the straightening of the rows is part of the beauty of prayer.
Hadith 12814
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يُؤْمِنُ أَحَدُكُمْ حَتَّى أَكُونَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ وَالِدِهِ وَوَلَدِهِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: None of you can be a believer until I become more beloved to him than his father, his children, and all people.
Hadith 12815
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَلْعَقُ أَصَابِعَهُ الثَّلَاثَ إِذَا أَكَلَ ، وَقَالَ : " إِذَا وَقَعَتْ لُقْمَةُ أَحَدِكُمْ ، فَلْيُمِطْ عَنْهَا الْأَذَى وَلْيَأْكُلْهَا ، وَلَا يَدَعْهَا لِلشَّيْطَانِ ، وَلْيَسْلُتْ أَحَدُكُمْ الصَّحْفَةَ ، فَإِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْرُونَ فِي أَيِّ طَعَامِكُمْ الْبَرَكَةَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to lick his three fingers after eating food and used to say that when a morsel falls from the hand of any one of you, he should remove whatever has stuck to it and not leave it for Satan, and clean the bowl thoroughly, for you do not know in which part of the food there is blessing.
Hadith 12816
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَامِرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا يَقُولُ : " كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَحْتَجِمُ ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يَظْلِمُ أَحَدًا أَجْرَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had cupping done, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would not wrong anyone regarding wages for work.
Hadith 12817
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَدِيٍّ ، قَالَ : شَكَوْنَا إِلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ مَا نَلْقَى مِنَ الْحَجَّاجِ ، فَقَالَ " اصْبِرُوا ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَأْتِي عَلَيْكُمْ عَامٌ أَوْ يَوْمٌ إِلَّا الَّذِي بَعْدَهُ شَرٌّ مِنْهُ حَتَّى تَلْقَوْا رَبَّكُمْ " سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ نَبِيِّكُمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Zubair bin Adi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that we complained to Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) about the oppression of Hajjaj bin Yusuf. He said, "Be patient, because every year or day that comes after will be worse than the one before, until you meet your Lord. I heard this from your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Hadith 12818
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ أَرْبَعًا ، وَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I offered four rak‘ahs with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah Munawwarah and two rak‘ahs in Dhul-Hulaifah.
