Hadith 2037
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever leaves the snakes out of fear that they will come back and pursue us, he is not from among us. Since the time we started fighting them, we have not made peace with them until now."
Hadith 2038
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا
عُثْمَانُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي
سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " يَقْرَأُ فِي الْفَجْرِ فِي أَوَّلِ رَكْعَةٍ آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْنَا وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ سورة البقرة آية 136 إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ ، وَفِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَاشْهَدْ بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ سورة آل عمران آية 52 " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite «﴿قُولُوا آمَنَّا بِاللّٰهِ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْنَا وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ﴾ [البقرة : 136]» till the last verse in the first rak'ah of Fajr, and in the second rak'ah he used to recite «﴿آمَنَّا بِاللّٰهِ وَاشْهَدْ بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ﴾ [آل عمران : 52]».
Hadith 2039
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out (to lead the prayer for rain) in such a manner that he was displaying humility, submissiveness, and supplication, without any adornment, walking slowly and with dignity. He (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in two rak‘ahs as he would on Eid, but he did not deliver a sermon as you do.

حَجَّاجٌ ، عَنِ
الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ
مِقْسَمٍ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ مَكَّةَ خَرَجَ عَلِيٌّ بِابْنَةِ حَمْزَةَ ، فَاخْتَصَمَ فِيهَا عَلِيٌّ وَجَعْفَرٌ وَزَيْدٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ ابْنَةُ عَمِّي وَأَنَا أَخْرَجْتُهَا ، وَقَالَ جَعْفَرٌ : ابْنَةُ عَمِّي وَخَالَتُهَا عِنْدِي ، وَقَالَ زَيْدٌ : ابْنَةُ أَخِي , وَكَانَ زَيْدٌ مُؤَاخِيًا لِحَمْزَةَ آخَى ، بَيْنَهُمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِزَيْدٍ : " أَنْتَ مَوْلَايَ وَمَوْلَاهَا " ، وَقَالَ لِعَلِيٍّ : " أَنْتَ أَخِي وَصَاحِبِي " ، وَقَالَ لِجَعْفَرٍ : " أَشْبَهْتَ خَلْقِي وَخُلُقِي وَهِيَ إِلَى خَالَتِهَا " .
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to leave Makkah, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) also brought the daughter of Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him). When they reached Madinah, there was a dispute between Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyiduna Ja'far, and Sayyiduna Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with them) regarding the upbringing of this girl. Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) said that she is my uncle's daughter and her maternal aunt, i.e., Sayyidah Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her), is in my marriage, therefore her upbringing is my right. Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said that she is my niece, and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that I brought her and she is my uncle's daughter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while deciding the matter, said: "Ja'far! You resemble me in appearance and character. Ali! You are from me and I am from you. And Zayd! You are our brother and our freed slave. The girl will stay with her maternal aunt because the maternal aunt is also like the mother in status."

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ
الْقَعْقَاعِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ ، عَنْ
عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ وَعْلَةَ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ
ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنْ بَيْعِ الْخَمْرِ ؟ فَقَالَ : كَانَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَدِيقٌ مِنْ ثَقِيفٍ أَوْ مِنْ دَوْسٍ فَلَقِيَهُ بِمَكَّةَ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ بِرَاوِيَةِ خَمْرٍ يُهْدِيهَا إِلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا أَبَا فُلَانٍ ، أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَهَا ؟ " , فَأَقْبَلَ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى غُلَامِهِ ، فَقَالَ : اذْهَبْ فَبِعْهَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا أَبَا فُلَانٍ ، بِمَاذَا أَمَرْتَهُ ؟ " , قَالَ : أَمَرْتُهُ أَنْ يَبِيعَهَا ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ الَّذِي حَرَّمَ شُرْبَهَا حَرَّمَ بَيْعَهَا ، فَأَمَرَ بِهَا فَأُفْرِغَتْ فِي الْبَطْحَاءِ " .
Abdur Rahman bin Wa'lah says that I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) about the issue of trading in alcohol. He replied that in the tribe of Thaqif or Daws, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a friend who, in the year of the conquest of Makkah, came to meet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Makkah and brought a waterskin of alcohol as a gift. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O Abu so-and-so! Do you not know that Allah has declared alcohol to be forbidden?" Upon hearing this, the man turned to his slave and whispered to him to take it and sell it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "O Abu so-and-so! What did you say to him?" He replied, "I ordered him to go and sell it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The One who has forbidden its consumption has also forbidden its buying and selling." Thus, on his order, the alcohol was poured out in the valley of Batha.

عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَعْرِضُ الْكِتَابَ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام فِي كُلِّ رَمَضَانَ ، فَإِذَا أَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ اللَّيْلَةِ الَّتِي يَعْرِضُ فِيهَا مَا يَعْرِضُ أَصْبَحَ وَهُوَ أَجْوَدُ مِنَ الرِّيحِ الْمُرْسَلَةِ ، لَا يُسْأَلُ عَنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي الشَّهْرِ الَّذِي هَلَكَ بَعْدَهُ عَرَضَ عَلَيْهِ عَرْضَتَيْنِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to review the Noble Qur’an with Jibreel (peace be upon him) every Ramadan. On the night when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite the Qur’an to Jibreel (peace be upon him), the next morning he would become more generous than the fast-blowing wind, and whatever was asked from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would grant it. In the year in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away after Ramadan, he recited the Noble Qur’an to Jibreel (peace be upon him) twice that year.
Hadith 2043

يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا
عُمَرُ بْنُ ذَرٍّ ، عَنْ
أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ
سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِجِبْرِيلَ : " مَا يَمْنَعُكَ أَنْ تَزُورَنَا أَكْثَرَ مِمَّا تَزُورُنَا ؟ قَالَ : فَنَزَلَتْ وَمَا نَتَنَزَّلُ إِلا بِأَمْرِ رَبِّكَ سورة مريم آية 64 إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Jibreel (peace be upon him) after the period of cessation of revelation, "Why do you not come to us more often than you do now?" Upon this, the verse was revealed: «﴿وَمَا نَتَنَزَّلُ إِلَّا بِأَمْرِ رَبِّكَ﴾ [مريم : 64]» "We do not descend to the earth except by the command of your Lord."
Hadith 2044
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا
ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ
عَطَاءٍ ، قَالَ : حَضَرْنَا مَعَ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ جَنَازَةَ مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِسَرِفَ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : " هَذِهِ مَيْمُونَةُ ، إِذَا رَفَعْتُمْ نَعْشَهَا فَلَا تُزَعْزِعُوهَا وَلَا تُزَلْزِلُوهَا ، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ تِسْعُ نِسْوَةٍ ، وَكَانَ يَقْسِمُ لِثَمَانٍ ، وَوَاحِدَةٌ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِيَقْسِمَ لَهَا , قَالَ عَطَاءٌ : الَّتِي لَمْ يَكُنْ يَقْسِمُ لَهَا صَفِيَّةُ " .
Ata bin Abi Rabah, may Allah have mercy on him, says that we were present at a place called Sarf with Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyida Maymunah's funeral along with Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: This is Maymunah. When you lift her bier, do not move the bed quickly nor shake it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had nine pure wives, of whom he used to allocate turns to eight (including Sayyida Maymunah, may Allah be pleased with her), and one wife (with her permission and consent) did not have a turn. Ata says that the wife whose turn was not fixed was Sayyida Safiyyah, may Allah be pleased with her, (but according to the majority of researchers, it was Sayyida Sawdah, may Allah be pleased with her. And Allah knows best).
Hadith 2045

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ " أَكْثَرُ مَا يُصَلِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْنَا وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ سورة البقرة آية 136 إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ ، وَالْأُخْرَى آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَاشْهَدْ بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite «﴿قُولُوا آمَنَّا بِاللّٰهِ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْنَا وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ﴾ [البقرة : 136]» in the first rak'ah of Fajr and «﴿آمَنَّا بِاللّٰهِ وَاشْهَدْ بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ﴾ [آل عمران : 52]» in the second rak'ah.
Hadith 2046
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes fast so continuously that we would say, "Now the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will not leave any fast," and sometimes he would break his fast so continuously that we would say, "Now the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will not keep any fast."
Hadith 2047
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best kohl among you is 'ithmid'; it sharpens the eyesight and grows the eyelashes."
Hadith 2048
Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I met Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he asked me, "Have you gotten married?" I replied, "No." He said, "Get married." Some time passed after this. When we met again, he asked the same question, "Have you gotten married now?" I again replied in the negative. Upon this, he said, "Get married, because the best person in this Ummah (i.e., the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) had many wives (so you should at least marry one, if not four)."
Hadith 2049
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
أَسْبَاطٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا
أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ ، عَنْ
حَمَّادٍ ، عَنْ
إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ الْكَلْبَ فَأَكَلَ مِنَ الصَّيْدِ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ ، فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ ، وَإِذَا أَرْسَلْتَهُ فَقَتَلَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ فَكُلْ ، فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى صَاحِبِهِ " , قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ : وَكَانَ فِي كِتَابِ أَبِي ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَضَرَبَ عَلَيْهِ أَبِي كَذَا ، قَالَ : أَسْبَاطٌ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you release a hunting dog on the prey and it eats from it, then do not eat it, because it has kept that prey for itself. But if you release a hunting dog and it goes and kills the prey but does not eat from it, then you may eat it, because now it has hunted that prey for its owner."
Hadith 2050
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "There are three things that are obligatory upon me but are voluntary for you: one is Witr, the second is (offering) sacrifice even if one does not possess the minimum amount (of wealth), and the third is the Duha (forenoon) prayer."
Hadith 2051
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) departed from Muzdalifah before sunrise.
Hadith 2052
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding Laylat al-Qadr: "Seek it in the last ten nights of Ramadan, when nine nights remain, or when five nights remain, or when seven nights remain."
Hadith 2053
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not begin fighting any people until he had invited them.
Hadith 2054
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to command his daughters and his pure wives to go out on the two Eids.
Hadith 2055
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ , حَدَّثَنِي
أَبِي ، عَنْ
أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ
الْأَرْقَمِ بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا مَرِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ أَبَا بَكْرٍ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ، ثُمَّ وَجَدَ خِفَّةً فَخَرَجَ ، فَلَمَّا أَحَسَّ بِهِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنْكُصَ , فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَجَلَسَ إِلَى جَنْبِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ وَاسْتَفْتَحَ مِنَ الْآيَةِ الَّتِي انْتَهَى إِلَيْهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became ill, he ordered Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer. Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) felt some relief in his illness, he came out. When Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sensed the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he intended to step back, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) signaled to him and sat down at his left side, and began reciting from where Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) had left off.
Hadith 2056
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stoned the Jamrah Aqabah on the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah while riding.
Hadith 2057
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that in travel, whether a person fasts or does not fast, do not find fault with anyone, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) both fasted and did not fast during travel.
Hadith 2058
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ
إِسْرَائِيلَ أَوْ غَيْرِهِ ، عَنْ
جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ
عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " أَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى قَرْيَةٍ عَلَى رَأْسِ أَرْبَعَةِ فَرَاسِخَ أَوْ قَالَ : فَرْسَخَيْنِ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ ، فَأَمَرَ مَنْ أَكَلَ أَنْ لَا يَأْكُلَ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَأْكُلْ أَنْ يُتِمَّ صَوْمَهُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that in a village located two or four farsakhs from Madinah Munawwarah, on the day of Ashura, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent this message: "Whoever has eaten or drunk anything since morning should not eat or drink for the rest of the day, and whoever has not eaten anything until now should complete his fast (i.e., refrain from eating and drinking until Maghrib)."
Hadith 2059
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا
إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ
سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ
عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، " أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ مُسْلِمًا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ جَاءَتْ امْرَأَتُهُ مُسْلِمَةً بَعْدَهُ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّهَا أَسْلَمَتْ مَعِي فَرَدَّهَا عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that during the Prophetic era, a man came and accepted Islam, and after some time his wife also accepted Islam. The man said: O Messenger of Allah! She had accepted Islam along with me (but had kept it hidden for some reason). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared her to be his wife and sent her back to him.
Hadith 2060
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to perform ablution thoroughly and completely.
Hadith 2061
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has performed prayer on the bed.
Hadith 2062
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ
سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ
عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَابِسٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ
لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : أَشَهِدْتَ الْعِيدَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، وَلَوْلَا مَكَانِي مِنْهُ مَا شَهِدْتُهُ لِصِغَرِي ، قَالَ : خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " فَصَلَّى عِنْدَ دَارِ كَثِيرِ بْنِ الصَّلْتِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ خَطَبَ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ أَذَانًا وَلَا إِقَامَةً " .
Abdur Rahman bin Abis (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): Did you participate in the Eid occasion with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)? He replied: Yes! If it were not for my connection with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), due to my childhood I would never have been present on that occasion, and he said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came and led two rak‘ahs of Eid prayer near the house of Kathir bin As-Salt, then delivered the sermon. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) did not mention anything about the adhan or iqamah in it.
Hadith 2063
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer of fear in a region of Banu Sulaym called Dhi Qarad. The people formed two rows behind the Prophet (peace be upon him): one row stood facing the enemy, and the other row stood behind the Prophet (peace be upon him) for prayer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) led this group in one rak'ah, then these people retreated backwards to the place of those who were facing the enemy, and those people came and stood behind the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) led them in the second rak'ah.
Hadith 2064
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا
أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ طَاوُسًا عَنِ السُّبْحَةِ فِي السَّفَرِ ؟ قَالَ : وَكَانَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ يَنَّاقٍ جَالِسًا ، فَقَالَ
الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ وَطَاوُسٌ يَسْمَعُ : حَدَّثَنَا
طَاوُسٌ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " فَرَضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْحَضَرِ وَالسَّفَرِ ، فَكَمَا تُصَلِّي فِي الْحَضَرِ قَبْلَهَا وَبَعْدَهَا ، فَصَلِّ فِي السَّفَرِ قَبْلَهَا وَبَعْدَهَا " , قَالَ وَكِيعٌ مَرَّةً : وَصَلِّهَا فِي السَّفَرِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed the number of rak‘ahs for prayer during travel and residence. Thus, we used to perform prayers before and after (the obligatory prayer) while residing, so you may also perform prayers before and after (the obligatory prayer) while traveling.
Hadith 2065
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been commanded to perform two rak‘ahs of Duha (forenoon prayer) and Witr, but they have not been made obligatory upon my Ummah."
Hadith 2066
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite «﴿سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى﴾», he would also say: «سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى».
Hadith 2067
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا
زَمْعَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ
سَلَمَةَ بْنِ وَهْرَامٍ ، عَنْ
عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِوَادِي عُسْفَانَ حِينَ حَجَّ ، قَالَ : " يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ ، أَيُّ وَادٍ هَذَا ؟ " , قَالَ : وَادِي عُسْفَانَ ، قَالَ : " لَقَدْ مَرَّ بِهِ هُودٌ وَصَالِحٌ عَلَى بَكَرَاتٍ حُمْرٍ خُطُمُهَا اللِّيفُ أُزُرُهُمْ الْعَبَاءُ وَأَرْدِيَتُهُمْ النِّمَارُ يُلَبُّونَ يَحُجُّونَ الْبَيْتَ الْعَتِيقَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed through the valley of ‘Usfan. He (peace be upon him) asked Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him): “O Abu Bakr! Which valley is this?” He replied: “The valley of ‘Usfan.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “From here, Prophet Hud and Prophet Salih (peace be upon them) passed on red, young camels whose reins were made of palm fiber. Their lower garments were cloaks, and their upper sheets were made of leopard skins, and they were reciting the Talbiyah as they went for Hajj to the House of Allah.”
Hadith 2068
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا
شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ
يَحْيَى بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " يُنْبَذُ لَهُ لَيْلَةَ الْخَمِيسِ ، فَيَشْرَبُهُ يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ وَيَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، قَالَ : وَأُرَاهُ قَالَ : وَيَوْمَ السَّبْتِ ، فَإِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَإِنْ بَقِيَ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ سَقَاهُ الْخَدَمَ أَوْ أَمَرَ بِهِ فَأُهْرِيقَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Nabidh would be prepared for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the night before Thursday. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would drink it on Thursday, on Friday, and until the evening of Saturday. After that, if any of it remained until the afternoon, he would give it to someone else to drink or would order it to be poured out.
Hadith 2069
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever says anything about the Noble Qur'an without knowledge should make his abode in the Hellfire."
Hadith 2070
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنِي
وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا
سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ
آدَمَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ مَوْلَى خَالِدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ
سَعِيدَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ إِنْ تُبْدُوا مَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ يُحَاسِبْكُمْ بِهِ اللَّهُ سورة البقرة آية 284 ، قَالَ : دَخَلَ قُلُوبَهُمْ مِنْهَا شَيْءٌ لَمْ يَدْخُلْ قُلُوبَهُمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " قُولُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا وَسَلَّمْنَا " ، فَأَلْقَى اللَّهُ الْإِيمَانَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ كُلٌّ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ لا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِنْ رُسُلِهِ وَقَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا غُفْرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ لا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلا وُسْعَهَا لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ رَبَّنَا لا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا رَبَّنَا وَلا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا رَبَّنَا وَلا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا أَنْتَ مَوْلانَا فَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ سورة البقرة آية 285 - 286 ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ : آدَمُ هَذَا هُوَ أَبُو يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when this verse of the Noble Qur’an was revealed: «﴿وَإِنْ تُبْدُوا مَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ يُحَاسِبْكُمْ بِهِ اللّٰهُ﴾ [البقرة : 284]» “Whether you conceal what is in your hearts or reveal it, Allah will call you to account for it,” the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) felt such anxiety in their hearts as they had never felt before (that if even the intention of the heart will be accounted for, then what will happen?). But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them, “You should say: We have heard, we have obeyed, and we submit.” Thus, Allah made the faith that was already present in their hearts even more firm, and He revealed these concluding verses of Surah Al-Baqarah: «﴿آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ كُلٌّ آمَنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِنْ رُسُلِهِ وَقَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا غُفْرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ o لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللّٰهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا أَنْتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ﴾ [البقرة : 285-286]» whose translation is: “The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], ‘We make no distinction between any of His messengers.’ And they say, ‘We have heard and we have obeyed. [Grant us] Your forgiveness, our Lord. To You is the [final] destination.’ Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.”
Hadith 2071
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا
زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْمَكِّيُّ ، عَنْ
يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ صَيْفِيٍّ ، عَنْ
أَبِي مَعْبَدٍ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا بَعَثَ مُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ ، قَالَ " إِنَّكَ تَأْتِي قَوْمًا أَهْلَ كِتَابٍ ، فَادْعُهُمْ إِلَى شَهَادَةِ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَإِنْ هُمْ أَطَاعُوكَ لِذَلِكَ فَأَعْلِمْهُمْ أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ افْتَرَضَ عَلَيْهِمْ خَمْسَ صَلَوَاتٍ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ ، فَإِنْ أَطَاعُوا لِذَلِكَ فَأَعْلِمْهُمْ أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ افْتَرَضَ عَلَيْهِمْ صَدَقَةً فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ تُؤْخَذُ مِنْ أَغْنِيَائِهِمْ وَتُرَدُّ فِي فُقَرَائِهِمْ ، فَإِنْ هُمْ أَطَاعُوكَ لِذَلِكَ فَإِيَّاكَ وَكَرَائِمَ أَمْوَالِهِمْ ، وَاتَّقِ دَعْوَةَ الْمَظْلُومِ فَإِنَّهَا لَيْسَ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حِجَابٌ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Noble Prophet, the Leader of both worlds, peace and blessings be upon him, sent Sayyiduna Mu’adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) to Yemen, he said: “You are going to a people who are from the People of the Book. Invite them to bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and that I, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), am the Messenger of Allah. If they obey you in this, then inform them that Allah has made five prayers obligatory upon them in every day and night. If they obey you in this as well, then inform them that Allah has made zakat obligatory upon their wealth, to be taken from their rich and distributed among their poor. If they accept this from you, then avoid taking the best of their wealth, and beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah.”
Hadith 2072
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) once washed each limb of wudu only once while performing ablution.
Hadith 2073
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed prostration, the whiteness of his blessed armpits could be seen (i.e., his arms were so separated).
Hadith 2074
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon before the people, and at that time he was wearing a black turban which had become shiny with oil.
Hadith 2075
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not look at those afflicted with leprosy for a long time."
Hadith 2076
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا
هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ
أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : وَدِدْتُ أَنَّ النَّاسَ غَضُّوا مِنَ الثُّلُثِ إِلَى الرُّبُعِ فِي الْوَصِيَّةِ ، لِأَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الثُّلُثُ كَثِيرٌ أَوْ كَبِيرٌ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: I wish people would reduce the amount in bequest from one third and choose one fourth, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has also considered one third to be much.
