Abu al-Tufail says that I was once with Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas and Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with them. Whenever Sayyiduna Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, passed by any corner of the Ka'bah, he would touch it. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to touch only the Black Stone and the Yemeni Corner. Sayyiduna Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, replied that no part of the House of Allah is to be neglected or abandoned.

A slave of Banu Bayadah used to perform cupping for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for which he would receive one and a half mudd of wheat daily as wages. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke to his masters about this, so they reduced it by half a mudd. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him his wages; if this wage had been unlawful, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would never have given it to him.

He led me in the Maghrib prayer at the time when the fasting person breaks his fast. He led me in the ‘Isha prayer after the twilight had disappeared. And he led me in the Fajr prayer at the time when eating and drinking becomes forbidden for the fasting person. Then, on the next day, he led me in the Zuhr prayer when the shadow of everything became equal to its length, and he led me in the Asr prayer when the shadow of everything became twice its length. He led me in the Maghrib prayer at the time when the fasting person breaks his fast. He led me in the ‘Isha prayer in the first third of the night, and he led me in the Fajr prayer when it was well lit. Then he turned to me and said: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! This has been the time of the Prophets (peace be upon them) before you; the time for prayer is between these two times.”

Who is this Abu al-Hasan? He has lifted a very great rock.

At the time of departure, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and all the Muslims were fasting, but when they reached the place of Kudayd, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) broke his fast.

Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) walked to the room where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had passed away, that is, the sacred chamber of Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her). Upon reaching there, he removed the striped sheet that had been placed over the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and as soon as he saw the radiant face, he leaned over it and began to kiss it. Then he said: By Allah! Allah will never combine two deaths upon you. The death that has come upon you is such that after it, you will never experience death again.

At the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), everything was removed from there, among which were also the statues of Ibrahim and Isma'il (peace be upon them), in whose hands were arrows used for divination. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah's curse be upon them! They knew well that these two never used these arrows for dividing anything." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the House of Allah, proclaimed the greatness of Allah in its corners, and came out. On this occasion, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform prayer inside the House of Allah.

He replied: "O woman who has been granted success! The same ruling applies to her." She asked again: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What if someone from your Ummah has no treasure at all?" He replied: "Then I will be the treasure for my Ummah, and they will not find anyone like me."

Grant him understanding of the religion and teach him the interpretation and explanation of the Book."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, a woman said, "Uthman! Congratulations to you for Paradise." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked angrily towards that woman and said, "How do you know?" She replied, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! He was your horseman and companion (so after death, he will surely go to Paradise)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "By Allah! Even though I am the Messenger of Allah, I do not know what will happen to me." Hearing this, people became fearful regarding Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him). But when the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) daughter, Sayyida Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), passed away, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Go and join the best of our predecessors, Uthman bin Maz'un," (by which his being in Paradise was established). Upon this, the women began to weep, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) started hitting them with a whip. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of his hand and said, "Umar! Stop." Then he said to the women, "You are allowed to weep, but protect yourselves from the wailing and screaming of Satan." Then he said, "As long as it is a matter of the eye and the heart, it is from Allah and is a mercy, but when it reaches the hand and the tongue, then it is from Satan." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat at the edge of the grave, and Sayyida Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) kept weeping at his side, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to wipe Sayyida Fatimah's (may Allah be pleased with her) eyes with his garment out of affection.

Then he sent me to Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) to call him. He was the scribe of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I ran to him and said, "Go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he has some work with you."

'Ijlaani said, "By Allah! Since we irrigated the field after grafting the trees for two months, I have not gone near her." The woman's husband was a man with shins and arms, and his hair was white tinged with redness. The woman was accused with Sharik bin Sahma', and the child that was born to her was extremely dark, with curly hair, and his arms were full. Ibn Shaddad asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): "Is this the same woman about whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that if I were to enforce the hadd of rajm (stoning) on anyone without witnesses, I would have enforced it on this woman?" He replied: "No, that was the woman who performed li'an in the time of Islam."

He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is overcome by severe pain, and you already have the Noble Qur’an with you, and the Book of Allah is sufficient for us. At this, there arose a difference of opinion among the people. Some were of the opinion that writing materials should be presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so that he could dictate something to them, and some agreed with the opinion of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). When the noise and disagreement increased, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Get up from me.” Upon this, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: Alas! Because of the people’s disagreement and noise, the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) writing was prevented.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah, he saw the Jews observing the fast on the tenth of Muharram. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked them, "What is the special reason for which you fast on this day?" They replied, "This is a great day; on this day Allah granted deliverance to the Children of Israel from their enemy, so Musa (peace be upon him) fasted on this day." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I have more right to Musa than you." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself fasted on this day and also ordered his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) to fast on this day.
