Hadith 2834
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ وَعَفَّانُ ، المعنى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّ أُخْتَ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ نَذَرَتْ أَنْ تَحُجَّ مَاشِيَةً ، فَسَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ غَنِيٌّ عَنْ نَذْرِ أُخْتِكَ ، لِتَرْكَبْ ، وَلْتُهْدِ بَدَنَةً " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about an issue: his sister had made a vow to go to the Sacred House of Allah on foot, but now she had become weak. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah is free from need of your sister's vow. She should go riding and take a camel as a sacrificial offering (hady)."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ وَعَفَّانُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " طَافَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سبعاً ، وطاف سَعْياً ، وَإِنَّمَا طَافَ لِيُرِيَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قُوَّتَهُ " ، وَقَالَ عَفَّانُ : وَلِذَا أَحَبَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُرِيَ النَّاسَ قُوَّتَهُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed seven circuits (tawaf) around the House of Allah, and also performed seven circuits during Sa’i. During Sa’i, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wished to show his strength to the polytheists (therefore he ran between the two green markers).

Hadith 2836
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ الْوَتْرِ ، فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " رَكْعَةٌ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ " . وَسَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ؟ فَقَال : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " رَكْعَةٌ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ " .
Abu Mujliz says that I once asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about Witr, so he replied that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Witr is one rak'ah in the last part of the night." Then I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about this, and he also gave the same answer.

Hadith 2837
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَبِيبُ بْنُ شِهَابٍ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبِي ، يَقُولُ : أَتَيْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَا وَصَاحِبٌ لِي ، فَلَقِينَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ عِنْدَ بَابِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَقَالَ : مَنْ أَنْتُمَا ؟ فَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : انْطَلِقَا إِلَى نَاسٍ عَلَى تَمْرٍ وَمَاءٍ ، إِنَّمَا يَسِيلُ كُلُّ وَادٍ بِقَدَرِهِ . قَالَ : قُلْنَا كَثُرَ خَيْرُكَ ، اسْتَأْذِنْ لَنَا عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : فَاسْتَأْذَنَ لَنَا فَسَمِعْنَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : خَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ تَبُوكَ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا فِي النَّاسِ مِثْلُ رَجُلٍ أَخَذَ بِعِنَانِ فَرَسِهِ ، فَيُجَاهِدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، وَيَجْتَنِبُ شُرُورَ النَّاسِ ، وَمِثْلُ رَجُلٍ بَادٍ فِي غَنَمِهِ ، يَقْرِي ضَيْفَهُ ، وَيُؤَدِّي حَقَّهُ " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : أَقَالَهَا ؟ قَالَ : قَالَهَا . قَالَ : قُلْتُ : أَقَالَهَا ؟ قَالَ : قَالَهَا . قَالَ : قُلْتُ : أَقَالَهَا ؟ قَالَ : قَالَهَا . فَكَبَّرْتُ اللَّهَ ، وَحَمِدْتُ اللَّهَ ، وَشَكَرْتُ .
Shihab Anbari says that once I, along with a friend, went to present ourselves before Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). There, right at the door of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas’s house, we met Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked: Who are you two? We told him about ourselves. He said: People are eating dates and drinking water, you should also go there. The flow of every valley is according to its capacity. We said: May your goodness increase, when you go inside, please seek permission for us from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) as well. So he obtained permission for us too.

On this occasion, we heard Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrate this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while delivering a sermon on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, said: “There is no example among people like the one who holds the reins of his horse, striving in the path of Allah and keeping away from evil people; and likewise, the man who remains engaged with his goats in the countryside, honoring his guests and fulfilling their rights.”

I asked him three times: Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say this? And he replied all three times that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this. Upon this, I said Allahu Akbar and thanked Allah.

Hadith 2838
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُهُمْ هَذَا الدُّعَاءَ ، كَمَا يُعَلِّمُهُمْ السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ، يَقُولُ : " قُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَفِتْنَةِ الْمَمَاتِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach him this supplication just as he would teach a surah from the Noble Qur’an, and he would say: “Say like this: «اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَفِتْنَةِ الْمَمَاتِ» ‘O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, from the punishment of the grave, from the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal), and from the trials of life and death.’”

Hadith 2839
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَطَاءٌ الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ : عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ عَلَيَّ بَدَنَةً ، وَأَنَا مُوسِرٌ لَهَا ، وَلَا أَجِدُهَا فَأَشْتَرِيَهَا ؟ فَأَمَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَبْتَاعَ سَبْعَ شِيَاهٍ ، فَيَذْبَحَهُنَّ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "A camel is obligatory upon me, and I have the means, but I am unable to find camels to buy." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him, "Buy seven goats in its place and slaughter them."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْأَخْنَسِ ، عَنْ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي مُغِيثٍ ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مَاهَكَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ : رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ اقْتَبَسَ عِلْمًا مِنَ النُّجُومِ ، اقْتَبَسَ شُعْبَةً مِنْ سِحْرٍ ، مَا زَادَ زَادَ ، وَمَا زَادَ زَادَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever learns astrology has learned a branch of magic; the more he advances in astrology, the further he advances in magic."

Hadith 2841
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ الْعُرَنِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَدِمْنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةَ الْمُزْدَلِفَةِ أُغَيْلِمَةَ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، عَلَى حُمُرَاتِنَا ، فَجَعَلَ يَلْطَحُ أَفْخَاذَنَا بِيَدِهِ ، وَيَقُولُ : " أَيْ بَنِيَّ ، لَا تَرْمُوا الْجَمْرَةَ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ " فَقَالَ : ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : مَا أَخَالُ أَحَدًا يَرْمِي الْجَمْرَةَ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made some of us young boys from Banu Abd al-Muttalib ride on our donkeys from Muzdalifah and sent us ahead, and while striking our legs with his hand, he said: "Dear children! Do not stone Jamrat al-Aqabah before sunrise." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: Now I do not think that any sensible person would stone before sunrise.

Hadith 2842
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْغَنَوِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ كَذَا ، قَالَ رَوْحٌ : عَاصِمٌ وَالنَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ : أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : يَزْعُمُ قَوْمُكَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَافَ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ ، وَأَنَّ ذَلِكَ سُنَّةٌ ؟ فَقَالَ : صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا ، قُلْتُ : وَمَا صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا ؟ قَالَ : " قَدْ طَافَ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ ، وَلَيْسَ ذَلِكَ بِسُنَّةٍ ، كَانَ النَّاسُ لَا يُصْرفُونَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَا يُدْفَعُونَ ، فَطَافَ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ لِيَسْتَمِعُوا ، وَلِيَرَوْا مَكَانَهُ ، وَلَا تَنَالُهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ " .
Abu Tufail says that I once asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), "Your people think that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Sa'i between Safa and Marwah while sitting on a camel, and that this is Sunnah?" Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) replied: "These people say something correct and something incorrect." I asked, "What is correct and what is incorrect?" He said: "It is correct that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Sa'i while sitting on a camel, but to consider it Sunnah is incorrect. In reality, people would not move away from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), nor could they be made to move away, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Sa'i while sitting on a camel so that they could hear his words, see him, and their hands would not reach the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."

Hadith 2843
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَال : " أَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الَّذِي يَأْتِي امْرَأَتَهُ وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ ، أَنْ يَتَصَدَّقَ بِدِينَارٍ ، أَوْ بِنِصْفِ دِينَارٍ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the person who has intimacy with his wife during her menstruation: "He should give one or half a dinar in charity."

Hadith 2844
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ : " لَا صَرُورَةَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet, the Leader of both worlds, peace and blessings be upon him, used to say: "There is no status for seclusion in Islam."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ وَحَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ ، قَالَ حَسَنٌ : عَنْ عَمَّارٍ ، قَالَ حَمَّادٌ : وَأَظُنُّهُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَلَمْ يَشُكَّ فِيهِ حَسَنٌ ، قَالَ : قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ . ح حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ ، مُرْسَلٌ لَيْسَ فِيهِ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ لِخَدِيجَةَ . . . فَذَكَرَ عَفَّانُ الْحَدِيثَ ، وَقَالَ أَبُو كَامِلٍ وَحَسَنٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِمَا : أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ لِخَدِيجَةَ : " إِنِّي أَرَى ضَوْءًا ، وَأَسْمَعُ صَوْتًا ، وَإِنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ يَكُونَ بِي جَنَنٌ " . قَالَتْ : لَمْ يَكُنْ اللَّهُ لِيَفْعَلَ ذَلِكَ بِكَ يَا ابْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ . ثُمَّ أَتَتْ وَرَقَةَ بْنَ نَوْفَلٍ ، فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : إِنْ يَكُ صَادِقًا ، فَإِنَّ هَذَا نَامُوسٌ مِثْلُ نَامُوسِ مُوسَى ، فَإِنْ بُعِثَ وَأَنَا حَيُّ ، فَسَأُعَزِّزُهُ ، وَأَنْصُرُهُ ، وَأُومِنُ بِهِ . .
From various chains of narration – in some of which the name of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) appears and in some it does not – it is narrated that after the first revelation descended, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her): "I see a light and I hear a voice; I fear that something may happen to me (that I may become possessed)." Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O noble son of Abdullah! Allah will never do such a thing to you." Then she went to Waraqah bin Nawfal and mentioned this matter to him. He said: "If he is telling the truth, then the angel who comes to him is the same Namus (angel) who used to come to Musa (peace be upon him). If he is commissioned (as a Prophet) during my lifetime, I will support him, help him, and believe in him."

Hadith 2846
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " أَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَكَّةَ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً ، سَبْعَ سِنِينَ يَرَى الضَّوْءَ وَالنُّورَ وَيَسْمَعُ الصَّوْتَ ، وَثَمَانِيَ سِنِينَ يُوحَى إِلَيْهِ ، وَأَقَامَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ عَشْرًا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) resided in Makkah Mukarramah for fifteen years: seven years in such a way that he would see light and hear voices, and eight years in such a way that revelation would descend upon him. And in Madinah Munawwarah, he resided for ten years.

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ وَعَفَّانُ ، الْمَعْنَى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَعِنْدَهُ رَجُلٌ يُنَاجِيهِ ، قَالَ عَفَّانُ : وَهُوَ كَالْمُعْرِضِ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ فَخَرَجْنَا مِنْ عِنْدِهِ ، فَقَالَ : أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ابْنِ عَمِّكَ كَالْمُعْرِضِ عَنِّي ؟ فَقُلْتُ : إِنَّهُ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ رَجُلٌ يُنَاجِيهِ ، قَالَ عَفَّانُ : فَقَالَ : أَوَ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ أَحَدٌ ؟ قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ . قَالَ : فَرَجَعَ إِلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، هَلْ كَانَ عِنْدَكَ أَحَدٌ ؟ فَإِنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ عِنْدَكَ رَجُلًا تُنَاجِيهِ . قَالَ : " هَلْ رَأَيْتَهُ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ؟ " قَالَ : نَعَمْ . قَالَ : " ذَاكَ جِبْرِيلُ ، وَهُوَ الَّذِي شَغَلَنِي عَنْكَ " حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عِنْدَكَ رَجُلٌ يُنَاجِيكَ .
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that once I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with my father. At that time, there was a man present with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with whom he was whispering. It seemed as if the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not pay any attention to my father. When we left from there, my father said to me: "Son! Did you see your cousin, how he was not paying any attention to us?" I said: "Father! There was a man with him with whom he was whispering." We then returned to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). My father said: "O Messenger of Allah! I said such a thing to Abdullah, and he told me that there was a man with you who was whispering to you. Was there really someone with you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Abdullah! Did you really see him?" I replied: "Yes!" He said: "That was Jibreel (Gabriel), the trustworthy, and that is why I could not pay attention to you."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أَبِى عَمَّارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِيمَا يَحْسَبُ حَمَّادٌ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " ذَكَرَ خَدِيجَةَ ، وَكَانَ أَبُوهَا يَرْغَبُ أَنْ يُزَوِّجَهُ ، فَصَنَعَتْ طَعَامًا وَشَرَابًا ، فَدَعَتْ أَبَاهَا وَزُمَرًا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ ، فَطَعِمُوا وَشَرِبُوا حَتَّى ثَمِلُوا ، فَقَالَتْ خَدِيجَةُ لِأَبِيهَا : إِنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَخْطُبُنِي ، فَزَوِّجْنِي إِيَّاهُ . فَزَوَّجَهَا إِيَّاهُ فَخَلَعَتْهُ وَأَلْبَسَتْهُ حُلَّةً ، وَكَذَلِكَ كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ بِالْآبَاءِ ، فَلَمَّا سُرِّيَ عَنْهُ سُكْرُهُ ، نَظَرَ فَإِذَا هُوَ مُخَلَّقٌ وَعَلَيْهِ حُلَّةٌ ، فَقَالَ : مَا شَأْنِي ، مَا هَذَا ؟ قَالَتْ : زَوَّجْتَنِي مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ . قَالَ : أَنَا أُزَوِّجُ يَتِيمَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ! لَا ، لَعَمْرِي . فَقَالَتْ خَدِيجَةُ : أَمَا تَسْتَحِي ! تُرِيدُ أَنْ تُسَفِّهَ نَفْسَكَ عِنْدَ قُرَيْشٍ ، تُخْبِرُ النَّاسَ أَنَّكَ كُنْتَ سَكْرَانَ ، فَلَمْ تَزَلْ بِهِ حَتَّى رَضِيَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her): "In fact, the father of Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) wanted to marry her off. Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) arranged a feast and, according to the custom of that time, also arranged for wine. She invited her father and some people from the Quraysh to this feast. They ate and drank and became intoxicated with wine. Seeing this, Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to her father that Muhammad bin Abdullah has sent me a marriage proposal, so you should marry me to him. He performed the marriage. After that, Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) applied a perfume called khuluq to her father and dressed him in a cloak, which was customary at that time. When the intoxication of Sayyidah Khadijah's (may Allah be pleased with her) father wore off, he saw that perfume called khuluq was applied to his body and he was wearing a cloak. Seeing this, he said, 'What is all this?' Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) replied, 'You yourself have married me to Muhammad bin Abdullah.' He said, 'Shall I marry you to the orphan nephew of Abu Talib? By my life! This cannot happen.' Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) said, 'Will you not be ashamed to make yourself look foolish in the eyes of the Quraysh and to tell people that you were intoxicated?' And she kept explaining this to him until he agreed."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَطَاءٌ الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ : عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ عَلَيَّ بَدَنَةً ، وَأَنَا مُوسِرٌ بِهَا ، وَلَا أَجِدُهَا فَأَشْتَرِيَهَا ؟ فَأَمَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَبْتَاعَ سَبْعَ شِيَاهٍ ، فَيَذْبَحَهُنَّ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "A camel is obligatory upon me, and I have the means, but I am unable to find camels to buy." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him, "Buy seven goats in its place and slaughter them."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ذَكَرَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ الدَّجَّالَ ، قَالَ : " هُوَ أَعْوَرُ هِجَانٌ ، كَأَنَّ رَأْسَهُ أَصَلَةٌ ، أَشْبَهُ رِجَالِكُمْ بِهِ عَبْدُ الْعُزَّى بْنُ قَطَنٍ ، فَإِمَّا هَلَكَ الْهُلَّكُ ، فَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَيْسَ بِأَعْوَرَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the Dajjal: "He will be one-eyed, he will be white in complexion, radiant, his head will seem like that of a snake, among the people he will most resemble ‘Abdul-‘Uzza bin Qatan. If those who are to perish begin to perish, then remember that your Lord is not one-eyed."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ وَعَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ طَاوُسًا يَقُولُ : قُلْنَا لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي " الْإِقْعَاءِ عَلَى الْقَدَمَيْنِ ؟ ، فَقَالَ : هِيَ السُّنَّةُ . قَالَ : فَقُلْنَا : إِنَّا لَنَرَاهُ جَفَاءً بِالرِّجْلِ . فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : هِيَ سُنَّةُ نَبِيِّكَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Tawoos (may Allah have mercy on him) says that we saw Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) sitting on his feet in a squatting position, so we asked him about this matter: Is it permissible to sit like this? He replied, "This is Sunnah." We said, "We thought this was a sign of a man's rusticity." He again replied, "This is the Sunnah of your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي يَزِيدَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، يَقُولُ : " مَا عَلِمْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ يَتَحَرَّى يَوْمًا كَانَ يَبْتَغِي فَضْلَهُ عَلَى غَيْرِهِ ، إِلَّا هَذَا الْيَوْمَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ ، أَوْ شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that, to my knowledge, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not fast on any day seeking its virtue over other days, except for the day of Ashura and this blessed month of Ramadan.

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنِ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ ، قَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَجْثُو عَلَى صُدُورِ قَدَمَيْهِ ، فَقُلْتُ : هَذَا يَزْعُمُ النَّاسُ أَنَّهُ مِنَ الْجَفَاءِ ، قَالَ : هُوَ سُنَّةُ نَبِيِّكَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Tawoos (may Allah have mercy on him) says that we saw Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) sitting on his feet squatting, so we said to him that people consider this to be uncivilized, he replied that this is the Sunnah of your Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that garment which is made entirely of silk.

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " أَقْرَأَنِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَى حَرْفٍ ، فَرَاجَعْتُهُ ، فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَسْتَزِيدُهُ ، وَيَزِيدُنِي ، فَانْتَهَى إِلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ " . قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ وَإِنَّمَا هَذِهِ الْأَحْرُفُ فِي الْأَمْرِ الْوَاحِدِ ، وَلَيْسَ يَخْتَلِفُ فِي حَلَالٍ وَلَا حَرَامٍ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Gabriel (peace be upon him) taught me the Qur'an on one mode (harf). I kept requesting him for more, and he kept increasing it for me until it reached seven modes, and then he stopped." Zuhri said that the meaning and purpose of these seven modes is the same, and there is no difference between them regarding what is lawful and unlawful.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Some poetry is full of wisdom, and some speech has an effect like magic."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اقْسِمُوا الْمَالَ بَيْنَ أَهْلِ الْفَرَائِضِ عَلَى كِتَابِ اللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى ، فَمَا تَرَكَتْ الْفَرَائِضُ فَلِأَوْلَى ذَكَرٍ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give the shares of inheritance to those who are entitled to them. After all the shares have been distributed, whatever wealth remains should be given to the closest male relative of the deceased (in the terminology of the science of inheritance, this is called 'Asabah')."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " كُفِّنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بُرْدَيْنِ أَبْيَضَيْنِ ، وَبُرْدٍ أَحْمَرَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was shrouded in two white garments and a red sheet.

(حديث موقوف) حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " لَأَنْ يَمْنَحَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهُ أَرْضَهُ ، خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ عَلَيْهَا كَذَا وَكَذَا لِشَيْءٍ مَعْلُومٍ " ، قَالَ : قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : وَهُوَ الْحَقْلُ ، وهو بلسان الأنصار المحاقلة .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "For any one of you to present his land to his brother as a gift is better than taking a specified rent from him for it."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " تَمَتَّعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حتى مات ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ حتى مات ، وَعُمَرُ وَعُثْمَانُ كَذَلِكَ ، وَأَوَّلُ مَنْ نَهَى عَنْهَا مُعَاوِيَةُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also performed Hajj Tamattu‘ until he passed away. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) also performed it until he passed away. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) also performed it. The first person to prohibit it was Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him).

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا ضَرَرَ وَلَا إِضِرَارَ ، وَلِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ خَشَبَةً فِي حَائِطِ جَارِهِ ، وَالطَّرِيقُ الْمِيتَاءُ سَبْعَةُ أَذْرُعٍ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no room for causing harm or suffering harm in Islam. A person is permitted to place wood on his brother's wall, and an uninhabited path should be kept seven cubits wide."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَنْبَأَنَا عَطَاءٌ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنْ اسْتَطَعْتُمْ أَنْ لَا يَغْدُوَ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ حَتَّى يَطْعَمَ ، فَلْيَفْعَلْ " . قَالَ : فَلَمْ أَدَعْ أَنْ آكُلَ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَغْدُوَ ، مُنْذُ سَمِعْتُ ذَلِكَ مِنَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَآكُلَ مِنْ طَرَفِ الصَّرِيقَةِ الْأَكْلَةَ ، أَوْ أَشْرَبَ اللَّبَنَ ، أَوْ الْمَاءَ . قُلْتُ : فَعَلَامَ يُؤَوَّلُ هَذَا ؟ قَالَ : سَمِعَهُ أَظُنُّ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " كَانُوا لَا يَخْرُجُونَ حَتَّى يَمْتَدَّ الضَّحَاءُ ، فَيَقُولُونَ : نَطْعَمُ لِئَلَّا نَعْجَلَ عَنْ صَلَاتِنَا " .
Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) says that he heard Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying: "On the day of Eid al-Fitr, if possible, you should eat or drink something before going out for the prayer." Since I heard this from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), I have never left the practice of eating or drinking something before going out in the morning, whether it is a piece of flatbread, or I drink milk, or I drink water. The narrator says: I asked, "What is the reason for this?" Ata replied: "I think he must have heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying this in the same way." And he said that people used to go out for the Eid prayer when the light had spread well, and they used to say: "We should eat or drink something beforehand so that we do not rush in the prayer."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ هُوَ أَبُو إِسْرَائِيلَ الْمُلَائِيُّ ، عَنْ فُضَيْلٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَعَجَّلُوا إِلَى الْحَجِّ يَعْنِي الْفَرِيضَةَ ، فَإِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ لَا يَدْرِي مَا يَعْرِضُ لَهُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After Hajj has been made obligatory, hasten to perform it, for none of you knows what needs or circumstances may arise for him later."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ خُثَيْمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ حِينَ أَرَادُوا دُخُولَ مَكَّةَ فِي عُمْرَتِهِ ، بَعْدَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ : " إِنَّ قَوْمَكُمْ غَدًا سَيَرَوْنَكُمْ ، فَلْيَرَوْكُمْ جُلْدًا " . فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا الْمَسْجِدَ اسْتَلَمُوا الرُّكْنَ ، ثُمَّ رَمَلُوا ، وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَعَهُمْ ، حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغُوا إِلَى الرُّكْنِ الْيَمَانِي ، مَشَوْا إِلَى الرُّكْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، فَفَعَلَ ذَلِكَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، ثُمَّ مَشَى الْأَرْبَعَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to enter Makkah for Umrah, he said to the companions (may Allah be pleased with them): "Tomorrow your people will surely see you, so show yourselves to be strong before them." Then all of them advanced until they entered Masjid al-Haram. All of them performed Istilam of the Black Stone, and during the Tawaf, the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) performed Raml, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was with them. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the Yemeni Corner, he walked at his normal pace up to the corner of the Black Stone. In this way, he (peace and blessings be upon him) did three circuits, and completed the remaining four at a normal pace.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) decreed that "one fifth of rikaz (buried treasure) is obligatory to be deposited in the Bayt al-Mal (public treasury)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No man should lie down with another man who is naked, and no woman should lie down with another woman who is naked."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قِيلَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ فَرَغَ مِنْ بَدْرٍ : عَلَيْكَ الْعِيرَ ، لَيْسَ دُونَهَا شَيْءٌ . قَالَ : فَنَادَاهُ الْعَبَّاسُ وَهُوَ أَسِيرٌ فِي وَثَاقِهِ : لَا يَصْلُحُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لِمَ ؟ " ، قَالَ : لِأَنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ وَعَدَكَ إِحْدَى الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ ، وَقَدْ أَعْطَاكَ مَا وَعَدَكَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the Battle of Badr, someone said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "Now proceed after the caravan of Quraysh; there is no obstacle now to reach it." Upon hearing this, Abbas—who had not yet embraced Islam at that time—called out and said, "This is not appropriate for you." He was asked, "Why?" He replied, "Allah had promised you one of the two groups, and He has already given it to you."
