It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he came from Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He says: Yesterday, when we were sitting with him, he asked the noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them), "Who among you has heard the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding tribulations (fitan)?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "We have all heard it." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Perhaps you are thinking of the tribulation which concerns a man's family and wealth?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, "Yes!" Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I am not asking you about that. Its expiation is prayer, fasting, and charity. Has anyone among you heard the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding those tribulations which will spread like the waves of the sea?" At this, the people fell silent, and I realized that they wanted to get the answer from me. So I said, "I have heard that saying." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me, "Surely, you must have heard it." I said, "Tribulations will be presented before the hearts just as a mat is woven, straw by straw. Any heart that absorbs them will have a black dot placed upon it, and any heart that rejects them will have a white dot placed upon it, until the hearts become of two kinds: one white like a pure stone, which no tribulation will harm as long as the heavens and the earth remain; and the other black and dark, like an overturned vessel, not recognizing good as good nor evil as evil, except what its desires incline towards."

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day I submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, "O Messenger of Allah! Will there be evil after this good?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Hudhaifa! Learn the Book of Allah and follow its commands." (He said this three times.) I then repeated my question. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "There will be tribulation and evil." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Will there be evil after this good?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said three times, "Hudhaifa! Learn the Book of Allah and follow its commands." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Will there be evil after this good?" What is meant by reconciliation established upon smoke?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "People will not be pleased with this reconciliation in their hearts." Then the same questions and answers occurred between me and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "A tribulation will come that will make one blind and deaf. Upon it, there will be people appointed who will call towards the doors of Hell. Whoever accepts their invitation, they will throw him into Hell."

They said, "Who among you remembers the method of performing the prayer of fear (Salat al-Khawf) with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I remember. Order your companions to stand in two groups, one of which should stand behind you and the other facing the enemy. Then you say the takbir and they all say the takbir as well. Then you bow (ruku') and they all bow. Then you rise and they all rise. Then you prostrate and the row closest to you should prostrate, while those facing the enemy should remain standing. When you raise your head from prostration, then they should also prostrate. Then the first row should move to the back and the back row should come forward and take their place. Then perform the second rak'ah as you did the first, and all should finish with salam. And tell your companions that if the enemy attacks during the prayer, then fighting and speaking become permissible for them."

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that, by Allah! I know more than all people about all the tribulations that will occur from now until the Day of Judgment. It was not that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) told me something exclusively that he did not tell anyone else, but rather, I was present in the gathering in which the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned these matters. Questions were being asked to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding tribulations, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was counting them. Among them, there are three tribulations that will leave nothing untouched; some of them will be like the winds of summer, some will be small, and some will be great. Allah Almighty will say, “Look at his deeds.” He will say, “O Lord! I did not do any good deeds, except that I had wealth and I used to trade with people. If someone was well-off, I would make things easy for him, and if someone was in difficulty, I would give him respite until he was at ease.” Allah Almighty will say, “I am more entitled to ease than you.” Thus, he will be forgiven. The other companion confirmed him, saying, “I also heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say this.”
Then he said, “I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: On the Day of Resurrection, a man will be brought forth who, at the time of his death, said to his family, ‘When I die, burn me in fire, then crush my ashes, then on a day when a strong wind is blowing, scatter my ashes in the air.’ When he died, his family did as he had said. Allah gathered him in His power and asked him, ‘What made you do this?’ He said, ‘Your fear.’ Allah said, ‘I have forgiven you.’ The other companion also confirmed him in this.”
