حَدِيثُ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Hadith of Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman from the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 23360
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيٌّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَاصِلٌ الْأَحْدَب ، عَنْ أَبي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ , أَنَّهُ رَأَى رَجُلًا لَا يُتِمُّ رُكُوعًا وَلَا سُجُودًا ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ دَعَاهُ حُذَيْفَةُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : مُنْذُ كَمْ صَلَّيْتَ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ ؟ قَالَ : قَدْ صَلَّيْتُهَا مُنْذُ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : مَا صَلَّيْتَ ، أَوْ قَالَ : مَا صَلَّيْتَ لِلَّهِ صَلَاةً ، شَكَّ مَهْدِيٌّ وَأَحْسِبهُ قَالَ : وَلَوْ مُتَّ مُتَّ عَلَى غَيْرِ سُنَّةِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Zaid bin Wahb narrates that once Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) entered the mosque and saw that near the doors of Kindah, a man was praying. He was not performing the bowing (ruku) and prostration (sajdah) properly. When he finished the prayer, Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him, "Since when have you been praying like this?" He replied, "For forty years." Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "You have not prayed a single prayer in forty years, and if you were to depart from this world with this prayer, you would not die upon the nature (fitrah) which was granted to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Hadith 23361
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بنُ سَلَمَةَ ، أَخْبرَنَا عَاصِمُ بنُ بهْدَلَةَ ، عَنْ زِرِّ بنِ حُبيْشٍ ، قَالَ : تَسَحَّرْتُ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقْتُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَمَرَرْتُ بمَنْزِلِ حُذَيْفَةَ بنِ الْيَمَانِ فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ ، فَأَمَرَ بلَقْحَةٍ فَحُلِبتْ ، وَبقِدْرٍ فَسُخِّنَتْ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : ادْنُ فَكُلْ ، فَقُلْتُ : إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الصَّوْمَ ، فَقَالَ : وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصَّوْمَ ، فَأَكَلْنَا وَشَرِبنَا ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا الْمَسْجِدَ ، فَأُقِيمَتْ الصَّلَاةُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : هَكَذَا فَعَلَ بي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قُلْتُ : أَبعْدَ الصُّبحِ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، هُوَ الصُّبحُ غَيْرَ أَنْ لَمْ تَطْلُعْ الشَّمْسُ ، قَالَ : وَبيْنَ بيْتِ حُذَيْفَةَ وَبيْنَ الْمَسْجِدِ كَمَا بيْنَ مَسْجِدِ ثَابتٍ وَبسْتَانِ حَوْطٍ ، وَقَدْ قَالَ حَمَّادٌ أَيْضًا : وَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : هَكَذَا صَنَعْتُ مَعَ النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَصَنَعَ بيَ النَّبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
Zirr bin Hubaish says that once I ate suhoor and set out towards the mosque. On the way, I passed by the house of Hazrat Hudhaifa bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him), so I went there. He gave an order, so a goat was milked and the pot was boiled. Then he said, "Come close and start eating." I said, "I have already made the intention to fast." He said, "I also intend to fast." So we ate and drank, and when we reached the mosque, the prayer had already started. Then Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did the same with me." I asked, "After the true dawn?" He replied, "Yes! The morning had come, but the sun had not yet risen."
Hadith 23362
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبا إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْوَلِيدَ أَبا الْمُغِيرَةِ ، أَوْ الْمُغِيرَةَ أَبا الْوَلِيدِ ، يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي ذَرِب اللِّسَانِ ، وَإِنَّ عَامَّةَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى أَهْلِي ، فَقَالَ : " أَيْنَ أَنْتَ مِنَ الِاسْتِغْفَارِ ؟ " , فَقَالَ : " إِنِّي لَأَسْتَغْفِرُ فِي الْيَوْمِ وَاللَّيْلَةِ ، أَوْ فِي الْيَوْمِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that when speaking with my family, I could not control my tongue, although this did not happen with others. I mentioned this to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hudhaifa! Why are you negligent of seeking forgiveness? I myself repent and seek forgiveness from Allah a hundred times every day."
Hadith 23363
حَدَّثَنَا بهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الْمَلِكِ بنُ عُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي ابنُ عَمٍّ لِحُذَيْفَةَ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : قُمْتُ إِلَى جَنْب رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ ، فَقَرَأَ السَّبعَ الطِّوَلَ فِي سَبعِ رَكَعَاتٍ ، قَالَ : فَكَانَ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ ، قَالَ : " سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ذِي الْمَلَكُوتِ وَالْجَبرُوتِ ، وَالْكِبرِيَاءِ وَالْعَظَمَةِ " ، وَكَانَ رُكُوعُهُ نَحْوًا مِنْ قِيَامِهِ ، وَسُجُودُهُ نَحْوًا مِنْ رُكُوعِهِ ، فَقَضَى صَلَاتَهُ ، وَقَدْ كَادَتْ رِجْلَايَ تَنْكَسِرَانِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I stood in prayer at night with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited seven long surahs in seven rak'ahs, and after raising his head from bowing, he would say "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah," then say, "Alhamdulillah dhi al-malkut wal-jabarut wal-kibriya' wal-'azamah." And his bowing was as long as his standing, and his prostration was as long as his bowing. When the prayer was finished, my legs were close to breaking.
Hadith 23364
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ أَبي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنِ ابنِ عَوْنٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ ابنِ أَبي لَيْلَى , قَالَ معاذ : حَدَّثَنَا ابنُ عَوْنٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بنِ أَبي لَيْلَى ، قَالَ : خَرَجْتُ مَعَ حُذَيْفَةَ إِلَى بعْضِ هَذَا السَّوَادِ ، فَاسْتَسْقَى ، فَأَتَاهُ دِهْقَانٌ بإِنَاءٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ، قَالَ : فَرَمَاهُ بهِ فِي وَجْهِهِ ، قَالَ : قُلْنَا : اسْكُتُوا اسْكُتُوا ، وَإِنَّا إِنْ سَأَلْنَاهُ لَمْ يُحَدِّثْنَا ، قَالَ : فَسَكَتْنَا ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا كَانَ بعْدَ ذَلِكَ ، قَالَ : أَتَدْرُونَ لِمَ رَمَيْتُ بهِ فِي وَجْهِهِ ؟ قَالَ : قُلْنَا : لَا ، قَالَ : إِنِّي كُنْتُ نَهَيْتُهُ ، قَالَ : فَذَكَرَ النَّبيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا تَشْرَبوا فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَب ، قَالَ مُعَاذٌ : لَا تَشْرَبوا فِي الذَّهَب ، وَلَا فِي الْفِضَّةِ ، وَلَا تَلْبسُوا الْحَرِيرَ وَلَا الدِّيباجَ ، فَإِنَّهُمَا لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا ، وَلَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ " .
Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila says that once I went out towards a village with Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked for water, so a farmer brought water in a silver vessel. Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) struck the vessel on his face. We signaled to each other to remain silent, because if we had asked him, he would never have told us about it. So we remained silent. After a while, he himself said, "Do you know why I struck that vessel on his face?" We replied, "No." He said, "I had forbidden him before as well (but he did not refrain)." Then he told us that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not drink from gold and silver vessels, and do not wear silk and brocade, for these things are for the disbelievers in this world and for you in the Hereafter."
Hadith 23365
حَدَّثَنَا أَبو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الدَّجَّالُ أَعْوَرُ الْعَيْنِ الْيُسْرَى ، جُفَالُ الشَّعَرِ ، مَعَهُ جَنَّةٌ وَنَارٌ ، فَنَارُهُ جَنَّةٌ وَجَنَّتُهُ نَارٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Dajjal will be blind in his left eye, his hair will be like wool, and he will have with him both Paradise and Hell. But his Hell will in reality be Paradise, and his Paradise will in reality be Hell.
Hadith 23366
حَدَّثَنَا أَبو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، وَابنُ نُمَيْرٍ , حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ يَشُوصُ فَاهُ " ، قَالَ ابنُ نُمَيْرٍ : قُلْتُ لِلْأَعْمَشِ : بالسِّوَاكِ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would wake up at night, the first thing he would do was use the miswak.
Hadith 23367
حَدَّثَنَا ابنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بنِ عُبيْدَةَ ، عَنْ الْمُسْتَوْرِدِ بنِ الْأَحْنَفِ ، عَنْ صِلَةَ بنِ زُفَرَ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةً فَافْتَتَحَ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَرْكَعُ عِنْدَ الْمِائَةِ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ مَضَى ، فَقُلْتُ : يُصَلِّي بهَا فِي رَكْعَةٍ ، فَمَضَى ، فَقُلْتُ : يَرْكَعُ بهَا ، ثُمَّ افْتَتَحَ ، ثُمَّ افْتَتَحَ عِمْرَانَ ، يَقْرَأُ مُسْتَرْسِلًا ، إِذَا مَرَّ بآيَةٍ فِيهَا تَسْبيحٌ ، سَبحَ ، وَإِذَا مَرَّ بسُؤَالٍ ، سَأَلَ ، وَإِذَا مَرَّ بتَعَوُّذٍ ، تَعَوَّذَ ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ : " سُبحَانَ رَبيَ الْعَظِيمِ " ، فَكَانَ رُكُوعُهُ نَحْوًا مِنْ قِيَامِهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ " ، ثُمَّ قَامَ طَوِيلًا قَرِيبا مِمَّا رَكَعَ ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ ، فَقَالَ : " سُبحَانَ رَبيَ الْأَعْلَى " ، فَكَانَ سُجُودُهُ قَرِيبا مِنْ قِيَامِهِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I prayed with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began Surah Al-Baqarah. When he reached one hundred verses, I thought that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would now bow (ruku‘), but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued reciting until he reached two hundred verses. I thought that perhaps now he would bow, but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued reciting until he completed it. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began Surah An-Nisa’ and, after reciting it, performed ruku‘. In his ruku‘, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say "Subhana Rabbiyal ‘Azim" and in his prostration (sajdah) "Subhana Rabbiyal A‘la". Whenever he passed by a verse of mercy, he would pause and supplicate, and whenever he passed by a verse of punishment, he would pause and seek refuge from it.
Hadith 23368
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَأَبو نُعَيْمٍ , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ إِبرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بنِ الْحَارِثِ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا عِنْدَ حُذَيْفَةَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ : إِنَّ فُلَانًا يَرْفَعُ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ الْأَحَادِيثَ ، فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ قَتَّاتٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The tale-bearer will not enter Paradise."
Hadith 23369
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الْمَلِكِ بنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ رِبعِيِّ بنِ حِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ ، قَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ باسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ ، وَباسْمِكَ أَحْيَا " ، وَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ ، قَالَ : " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بعْدَمَا أَمَاتَنَا ، وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to his bed at night, he would say: "O Allah! In Your name we live and die." And when he would wake up, he would say: "All praise is due to Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the gathering."
Hadith 23370
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبي مَالِكٍ . وَابنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ أَبي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ ، عَنْ رِبعِيٍّ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ ابنُ جَعْفَرٍ : عَنِ النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ نَبيُّكُمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كُلُّ مَعْرُوفٍ صَدَقَةٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that your Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every good deed is charity.
Hadith 23371
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ أَبي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عُبيْدِ بنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ رَجُلًا ذَرِب اللِّسَانِ عَلَى أَهْلِي ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَدْ خَشِيتُ أَنْ يُدْخِلَنِي لِسَانِي النَّارَ ، قَالَ : " فَأَيْنَ أَنْتَ مِنَ الِاسْتِغْفَارِ ؟ إِنِّي لَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ فِي الْيَوْمِ مِائَةً مرة " ، قَالَ أَبو إِسْحَاقَ : فذَكَرْتُهُ لِأَبي برْدَةَ ، فَقَالَ : وَأَتُوب إِلَيْهِ.

Hadith 23372
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ أَبي إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنِي بعْضُ أَصْحَابنَا ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنَّ الْمُشْرِكِينَ أَخَذُوهُ وَأَباهُ ، فَأَخَذُوا عَلَيْهِمْ أَنْ : لَا يُقَاتِلُوهُمْ يَوْمَ بدْرٍ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " فَوَالِهِمْ ، وَنَسْتَعِينُ اللَّهَ عَلَيْهِمْ " .
The disbelievers of Quraysh captured us and said, "Are you going to Muhammad (peace be upon him)?" We said, "Our intention is only to go to Madinah." They took a promise and a strong oath from us that after reaching Madinah, we would not participate in fighting alongside him. We reached the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and informed him of the entire matter. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Both of you return; we will fulfill their promise and seek help from Allah against them."
Hadith 23373
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبي حُذَيْفَةَ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأُتِيَ بطَعَامٍ ، فَجَاءَ أَعْرَابيٌّ كَأَنَّمَا يُطْرَدُ فَذَهَب يَتَنَاوَلُ ، فَأَخَذَ النَّبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بيَدِهِ ، وَجَاءَتْ جَارِيَةٌ كَأَنَّهَا تُطْرَدُ فَأَهْوَتْ ، فَأَخَذَ النَّبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بيَدِهَا ، فَقَالَ النَّبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَمَّا أَعْيَيْتُمُوهُ ، جَاءَ بالْأَعْرَابيِّ وَالْجَارِيَةِ يَسْتَحِلُّ الطَّعَامَ إِذَا لَمْ يُذْكَرْ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ ، بسْمِ اللَّهِ ، كُلُوا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that when we were sharing a meal with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), a slave girl came in, and it seemed as if someone was pushing her. She tried to put her hand into the food, but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) caught her hand. Then a Bedouin came in, and it seemed as if someone was pushing him. He tried to put his hand into the food, but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) caught his hand as well and said: When the name of Allah is not mentioned over the food, Satan considers it lawful for himself. So, at first, he came with this slave girl to make the food lawful for himself, but I caught her hand. Then he came with this Bedouin to make the food lawful for himself through him, but I caught his hand as well. Therefore, eat after reciting Bismillah.
Hadith 23374
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابنَ أَبي لَيْلَى يُحَدِّثُ , أَنَّ حُذَيْفَةَ اسْتَسْقَى ، فَأَتَاهُ إِنْسَانٌ بإِنَاءٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَرَمَاهُ بهِ ، وَقَالَ : إِنِّي كُنْتُ قَدْ نَهَيْتُهُ فَأَبى أَنْ يَنْتَهِيَ ، إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَشْرَب فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَب وَالْفِضَّةِ ، وَعَنْ لُبسِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيباجِ ، وَقَالَ : " هُوَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ " .
Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila says that once I went out towards a village with Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked for water, so a farmer brought water in a silver vessel. Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) struck the vessel on his face. We signaled to each other to remain silent, because if we had asked him, he would never have told us about it. So we remained silent. After a while, he himself said, "Do you know why I struck that vessel on his face?" We replied, "No." He said, "I had forbidden him before as well (but he did not refrain)." Then he told us that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not drink from gold and silver vessels, and do not wear silk and brocade, for these things are for the disbelievers in this world and for you in the Hereafter."
Hadith 23375
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ أَبي حَمْزَةَ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بنِي عَبسٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ ، قَالَ : " اللَّهُ أَكْبرُ ذُو الْمَلَكُوتِ وَالْجَبرُوتِ ، وَالْكِبرِيَاءِ وَالْعَظَمَةِ " ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ قَرَأَ ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ ، وَكَانَ رُكُوعُهُ نَحْوًا مِنْ قِيَامِهِ ، وَكَانَ يَقُولُ : " سُبحَانَ رَبيَ الْعَظِيمِ ، سُبحَانَ رَبى الْعَظِيمِ " ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ ، فَكَانَ قِيَامُهُ نَحْوًا مِنْ رُكُوعِهِ ، وَكَانَ يَقُولُ : " لِرَبيَ الْحَمْدُ ، لِرَبيَ الْحَمْدُ " ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ ، فَكَانَ سُجُودُهُ نَحْوًا مِنْ قِيَامِهِ ، وَكَانَ يَقُولُ : " سُبحَانَ رَبيَ الْأَعْلَى ، سُبحَانَ رَبيَ الْأَعْلَى " ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ ، فَكَانَ مَا بيْنَ السَّجْدَتَيْنِ نَحْوًا مِنَ السُّجُودِ ، وَكَانَ يَقُولُ : " رَب اغْفِرْ لِي ، رَب اغْفِرْ لِي " ، قَالَ : حَتَّى قَرَأَ ، عمران ، ، وَالْمَائِدَةَ ، وَالْأَنْعَامَ " . شُعْبةُ الَّذِي يَشُكُّ فِي وَالْأَنْعَامَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I prayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) started Surah Al-Baqarah. When he reached one hundred verses, I thought that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would now bow (ruku‘), but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued reciting until he reached two hundred verses. I thought that perhaps now he would bow, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued reciting until he completed it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) started Surah An-Nisa’ and, after reciting it, performed ruku‘. In his ruku‘, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say "Subhana Rabbiyal ‘Azim" and in his prostration (sajdah) "Subhana Rabbiyal A‘la". Whenever he passed by a verse of mercy, he would pause and supplicate, and whenever he passed by a verse of punishment, he would pause and seek refuge from it.
Hadith 23376
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ . وَحَجَّاجٌ , حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبي مِجْلَزٍ لَاحِقِ بنِ حُمَيْدٍ ، وَقَالَ حَجَّاجٌ : سَمِعْتُ أَبا مِجْلَزٍ ، قَالَ : قَعَدَ رَجُلٌ فِي وَسْطِ حَلْقَةٍ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ قَعَدَ فِي وَسْطِ الْحَلْقَةِ عَلَى لِسَانِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَقَالَ : " لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ قَعَدَ فِي وَسْطِ الْحَلْقَةِ " . قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ : قَالَ شُعْبةُ : لَمْ يُدْرِكْ أَبو مِجْلَزٍ حُذَيْفَةَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that whoever sits in the middle of a circle has been declared accursed by the tongue of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 23377
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبا إِسْحَاقَ يُحَدِّثُ , عَنْ صِلَةَ بنِ زُفَرَ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : جَاءَ أَهْلُ نَجْرَانَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالُوا : ابعَثُوا إِلَيْنَا رَجُلًا أَمِينًا ، فَقَالَ : " لَأَبعَثَنَّ إِلَيْكُمْ رَجُلًا أَمِينًا حَقَّ أَمِينٍ ، حَقَّ أَمِينٍ " ، قَالَ : فَاسْتَشْرَفَ لَهَا النَّاسُ ، قَالَ : فَبعَثَ أَبا عُبيْدةَ بنَ الْجَرَّاحِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once some people came from Najran and said, "Please send with us a trustworthy man." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "I will send with you such a trustworthy man who truly deserves to be called trustworthy." Upon hearing this, the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) started raising their heads and looking around. Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) with them.
Hadith 23378
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ أَبي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بنِ نُذَيْرٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : أَخَذَ النَّبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بعَضَلَةِ سَاقِي ، أَوْ بعَضَلَةِ سَاقِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " حَقُّ الْإِزَارِ هَا هُنَا ، فَإِنْ أَبيْتَ فَهَا هُنَا ، فَإِنْ أَبيْتَ فَلَا حَقَّ لِلْإِزَارِ فِي الْكَعْبيْنِ " ، أَوْ " لَا حَقَّ لِلْكَعْبيْنِ فِي الْإِزَارِ ".
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once held the calf of his leg and said: The place for tying the lower garment is up to here. If you do not accept this, then let it hang a little below this. If you do not accept even this, then below the ankles the lower garment has no right.
Hadith 23379
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبا مَالِكٍ يَعْنِي الْأَشْجَعِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ , عَنْ رِبعِيٍّ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " كُلُّ مَعْرُوفٍ صَدَقَةٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every good deed is charity.
Hadith 23380
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ رِبعِيِّ بنِ حِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ امْرَأَتِهِ ، عَنْ أُخْتِ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَتْ : خَطَبنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : " يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ ، أَمَا لَكُنَّ فِي الْفِضَّةِ مَا تَحَلَّيْنَ ؟ أَمَا إِنَّهُ مَا مِنْكُنَّ مِنَ امْرَأَةٍ تَلْبسُ ذَهَبا تُظْهِرُهُ ، إِلَّا عُذِّبتْ بهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " .
It is narrated from the sister of Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us in a sermon and said: O group of women! Would silver jewelry not be sufficient for you? Remember! Any woman among you who wears gold for display will be subjected to punishment on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 23381
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ عَبدِ اللَّهِ بنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا تَقُولُوا : مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ وَشَاءَ فُلَانٌ ، وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا : مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ، ثُمَّ شَاءَ فُلَانٌ " . .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not say, "What Allah willed and what so-and-so willed," but rather say, "What Allah willed, and after that, what so-and-so willed."
Hadith 23382
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الْمَلِكِ بنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ رِبعِيِّ بنِ حِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ الطُّفَيْلِ أَخِي عَائِشَةَ لِأُمِّهَا : أَنَّ يَهُودِيًّا رَأَى فِي مَنَامِهِ ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ.
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 23383
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الْمَلِكِ بنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ رِبعِيِّ بنِ حِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فِي الدَّجَّالِ : " إِنَّ مَعَهُ مَاءً وَنَارًا ، فَنَارُهُ مَاءٌ بارِدٌ ، وَمَاؤُهُ نَارٌ ، فَلَا تَهْلِكُوا " ، قَالَ أَبو مَسْعُودٍ : وَأَنَا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the Dajjal appears, he will have with him water and fire. What will appear to people as fire will actually be cool water, and what will appear as water will actually be burning fire. Therefore, do not be destroyed. Upon hearing this hadith, Hazrat Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I have heard this hadith from the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 23384
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الْمَلِكِ بنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ رِبعِيِّ بنِ حِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَنَّ رَجُلًا مَاتَ فَدَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : مَا كُنْتَ تَعْمَلُ ؟ قَالَ : فَإِمَّا ذَكَرَ وَإِمَّا ذُكِّرَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي كُنْتُ أُبايِعُ النَّاسَ ، فَكُنْتُ أُنْظِرُ الْمُعْسِرَ ، وَأَتَجَوَّزُ فِي السِّكَّةِ ، أَوْ فِي النَّقْدِ ، فَغُفِرَ لَهُ " . فَقَالَ أَبو مَسْعُودٍ : وَأَنَا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: In earlier times, the Angel of Death came to a man to seize his soul and asked him, "Have you ever done any good deed?" He replied, "I do not know." The angel said, "Think about it." He said, "I do not know of any good deed except that I used to do business with people, and I would give respite to the one in difficulty and overlook (their shortcomings)." Allah Almighty forgave him. Hazrat Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) also affirmed this.
Hadith 23385
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ اللَّهِ بنُ يَزِيدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ ، حَدَّثَنِي بكْرُ بنُ عَمْرٍو ، أَنَّ أَبا عَبدِ الْمَلِكِ عَلِيَّ بنَ يَزِيدَ الدِّمَشْقِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ بلَغَهُ , عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " إِنَّ فَضْلَ الدَّارِ الْقَرِيبةِ يَعْنِي مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ عَلَى الدَّارِ الْبعِيدَةِ ، كَفَضْلِ الْغَازِي عَلَى الْقَاعِدِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The virtue of the house that is far from the mosque over the house that is near the mosque is like the virtue of the one who prays over the one who sits waiting for jihad.
Hadith 23386
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ عُبيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَالِمٌ الْمُرَادِيُّ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بنِ هَرِمٍ الْأَزْدِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبي عَبدِ اللَّهِ ، ورِبعِيِّ بنِ حِرَاشٍ , عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : بيْنَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِنِّي لَسْتُ أَدْرِي مَا قَدْرُ بقَائِي فِيكُمْ ، فَاقْتَدُوا باللَّذَيْنِ مِنْ بعْدِي يُشِيرُ إِلَى أَبي بكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، وَاهْدُوا هَدْيَ عَمَّارٍ وَعَهْدَ ابنِ أُمِّ عَبدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were sitting with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I do not know how long I will remain among you, so follow the two men who will be after me, and he pointed towards Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). And hold firmly to the way of Ammar, and whatever Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) tells you, affirm it.
Hadith 23387
حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بنُ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ وَاصِلٍ الْأَحْدَب ، عَنْ أَبي وَائِلٍ ، قَالَ : قِيلَ لِحُذَيْفَةَ : إِنَّ رَجُلًا يَنُمُّ الْحَدِيثَ ، قَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ نَمَّامٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The tale-bearer will not enter Paradise.
Hadith 23388
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ ابنِ عَوْنٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ جُنْدُب : لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْجَرَعَةِ ، وَثَمَّ رَجُلٌ قَالَ : فَقَلتَُ : وَاللَّهِ لَيُهْرَاقَنَّ الْيَوْمَ دِمَاءٌ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ : كَلَّا وَاللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتَ : بلَى وَاللَّهِ ، قَالَ : كَلَّا وَاللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قُلتُ : بلَى والله ، قَالَ : كَلاَّ والله ، إِنَّهُ لَحَدِيثُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدَّثَنِيهِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأُرَاكَ جَلِيسَ سَوْءٍ مُنْذُ الْيَوْمِ تَسْمَعُنِي أَحْلِفُ وَقَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، لَا يَنْهَانِي ؟ قَالَ : ثُمَّ قُلْتُ : مَالِي وَلِلْغَضَب ، قَالَ : فَتَرَكْتُ الْغَضَب ، وَأَقْبلْتُ أَسْأَلُهُ ، قَالَ : وَإِذَا الرَّجُلُ حُذَيْفَةُ .
Jundub says that on the occasion of "Yawm al-Jar‘ah," there was a man present who said, "By Allah, today there will be bloodshed." Another man swore an oath and said, "Never!" The first said, "Why did you not say, 'Certainly'?" He replied, "Such a thing will never happen because this is a hadith which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) narrated to me." The first man says, "I said to him, 'By Allah, I consider you a bad companion. You are hearing me swear an oath and yet you do not stop me, even though you have heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say something about this?' Then I thought, what is the benefit of getting angry? So I swallowed my anger and came to him and began to ask questions. Later I found out that he was Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him)."
Hadith 23389
حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بنِ هِلَالٍ ، عَنْ ثَعْلَبةَ بنِ زَهْدَمٍ الْيَرْبوعِيِّ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ سَعِيدِ بنِ الْعَاصِ بطَبرِسْتَانَ ، فَقَالَ : أَيُّكُمْ يَحْفَظُ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : " أَمَّنَا ، فَقُمْنَا صَفًّا خَلْفَهُ ، وَصَفًّا مُوَازِيَ الْعَدُوِّ ، فَصَلَّى بالَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُ رَكْعَةً ، ثُمَّ ذَهَبوا إِلَى مَصَافِّ أُولَئِكَ ، وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَصَلَّى بهِمْ رَكْعَةً ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ " .
Tha’labah bin Zahdam says that once we were in Tabaristan with Hazrat Sa’eed bin Aas (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked the people, “Who among you has performed the Salat al-Khawf (prayer of fear) with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)?” Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, “I have, and it was like this: the people formed two rows behind the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). One row stood facing the enemy, and one row stood behind the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) for prayer. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) led those people in one rak’ah, then they retreated backwards to the place of those who were standing in front of the enemy, and those people came and stood behind the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in their place. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in the second rak’ah and then concluded the prayer with salam.”
Hadith 23390
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بنِ السَّائِب ، عَنْ أَبي الْبخْتَرِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : كَانَ أَصْحَاب النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْأَلُونَهُ عَنِ الْخَيْرِ ، وَكُنْتُ أَسْأَلُهُ عَنِ الشَّرِّ ، قِيلَ : لِمَ فَعَلْتَ ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَ : " مَنْ اتَّقَى الشَّرَّ ، وَقَعَ فِي الْخَيْرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the companions of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to ask him about good, and I used to ask him about evil. Someone asked the reason for this, so he said: Whoever avoids evil, indeed he does good deeds.
Hadith 23391
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بنُ حَيَّانَ ، أَخْبرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الْمَلِكِ بنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ رِبعِيِّ بنِ حِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَخَذَ مَضْجَعَهُ ، قَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ باسْمِكَ أَحْيَا وَأَمُوتُ " ، وَإِذَا قَامَ ، قَالَ : " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بعْدَمَا أَمَاتَنَا ، وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to his bed at night, he would say: "O Allah! In Your name we live and die." And when he would wake up, he would say: "All praise is due to Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the gathering."
Hadith 23392
حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ زِرٍّ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ بلَالٌ يَأْتِي النَّبيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَتَسَحَّرُ ، وَإِنِّي لَأُبصِرُ مَوَاقِعَ نَبلِي ، قُلْتُ : أَبعْدَ الصُّبحِ ؟ قَالَ : بعْدَ الصُّبحِ ، إِلَّا أَنَّهَا لَمْ تَطْلُعْ الشَّمْسُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Hazrat Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) would come to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the time of morning, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would be eating suhoor, and at that time I could see the place where my arrow would fall. I asked, "After true dawn?" He replied, "Yes! The morning had come, but the sun had not yet risen."
Hadith 23393
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الْعَزِيزِ يَعْنِي ابنَ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُصَيْنٌ ، عَنْ أَبي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَيَرِدَنَّ عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ أَقْوَامٌ ، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُهُمْ اخْتُلِجُوا دُونِي ، فَأَقُولُ : أَيْ رَب ، أَصْحَابي أَصْحَابي ، فَيُقَالُ : إِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي مَا أَحْدَثُوا بعْدَكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Some people will come to me at the Pond of Kawthar, and I will see them when they are presented before me, but they will be snatched away from in front of me. I will say, "O Lord! My companions!" It will be said, "You do not know what innovations they introduced after you."
Hadith 23394
حَدَّثَنَا أَبو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ ، عَنْ أَبي بكْرِ بنِ عَمْرِو بنِ عُتْبةَ ، عَنْ ابنِ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ مِسْعَرٌ : وَقَدْ ذَكَرَهُ مَرَّةً عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ : " أَنَّ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَتُدْرِكُ الرَّجُلَ وَوَلَدَهُ وَوَلَدَ وَلَدِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for someone, the effects of that supplication would reach him, his children, and even his grandchildren.
Hadith 23395
حَدَّثَنَا أَبو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ يَعْنِي ابنَ جُمَيْعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبو الطُّفَيْلِ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ غَزْوَةِ تَبوكَ ، قَالَ : فَبلَغَهُ أَنَّ فِي الْمَاءِ قِلَّةً الَّذِي يَرِدُهُ ، فَأَمَرَ مُنَادِيًا فَنَادَى فِي النَّاسِ : " أَنْ لَا يَسْبقَنِي إِلَى الْمَاءِ أَحَدٌ " ، فَأَتَى الْمَاءَ ، وَقَدْ سَبقَهُ قَوْمٌ ، فَلَعَنَهُمْ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out and learned about the scarcity of water. He ordered the announcer to proclaim that the water is very little, so no one should reach that place before me. However, when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived there, he saw that some people had already reached before him. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed and reproached them.
Hadith 23396
حَدَّثَنَا أَبو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنْ الْوَلِيدِ بنِ الْعَيْزَارِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : " بتُّ بآلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةً ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي وَعَلَيْهِ طَرَفُ اللِّحَافِ ، وَعَلَى عَائِشَةَ طَرَفُهُ ، وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ لَا تُصَلِّي " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I had the opportunity to spend the night in the house of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to pray; one corner of the blanket was on the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the other corner was on Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). She was in her "days" at that time, meaning she could not pray.
Hadith 23397
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، قَالَ : أَبو إِسْحَاقَ أَخْبرَنَا ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ صِلَةَ بنَ زُفَرَ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِأَهْلِ نَجْرَانَ : " لَأَبعَثَنَّ إِلَيْكُمْ رَجُلًا أَمِينًا حَقَّ أَمِينٍ " ، قَالَهَا أَكْثَرَ مِنْ مَرَّتَيْنِ ، فَاسْتَشْرَفَ لَهَا النَّاسُ ، فَبعَثَ أَبا عُبيْدَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that regarding the people of Najran, more than twice it was said, "I will send to you such a trustworthy man who truly deserves to be called trustworthy." Upon hearing this, the noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) began to raise their heads and look around. Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) with them.
Hadith 23398
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابنَ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ زِرٍّ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَقِيتُ جِبرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام عِنْدَ أَحْجَارِ الْمِرَاءِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا جِبرِيلُ ، إِنِّي أُرْسِلْتُ إِلَى أُمَّةٍ أُمِّيَّةٍ : الرَّجُلُ وَالْمَرْأَةُ وَالْغُلَامُ وَالْجَارِيَةُ وَالشَّيْخُ الْفَانِي الَّذِي لَمْ يَقْرَأُ كِتَابا قَط ، قَالَ : إِنَّ الْقُرْآنَ نَزَلَ عَلَى سَبعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Once, at a place called "Ahjar al-Mara", I met Jibreel (peace be upon him), so I said to him, "O Jibreel! I have been sent to an unlettered nation in which there are men and women, boys and girls, and very old people who do not know how to read anything." So he said, "The Noble Qur'an has been revealed upon seven letters."
Hadith 23399
حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بنُ زَكَرِيَّا ، حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلَاءُ بنُ الْمُسَيَّب ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بنِ يَزِيدَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ النَّبيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ ، فَقَامَ يُصَلِّي ، فَلَمَّا كَبرَ قَالَ : " اللَّهُ أَكْبرُ ، ذُو الْمَلَكُوتِ وَالْجَبرُوتِ ، وَالْكِبرِيَاءِ وَالْعَظَمَةِ " ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ ، ثُمَّ ، ثُمَّ عِمْرَانَ ، لَا يَمُرُّ بآيَةِ تَخْوِيفٍ إِلَّا وَقَفَ عِنْدَهَا ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ يَقُولُ : " سُبحَانَ رَبيَ الْعَظِيمِ " ، مِثْلَ مَا كَانَ قَائِمًا ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ، رَبنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ " ، مِثْلَ مَا كَانَ قَائِمًا ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ ، يَقُولُ : " سُبحَانَ رَبيَ الْأَعْلَى " ، مِثْلَ مَا كَانَ قَائِمًا ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ : " رَب اغْفِرْ لِي " ، مِثْلَ مَا كَانَ قَائِمًا ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ يَقُولُ : " سُبحَانَ رَبيَ الْأَعْلَى " ، مِثْلَ مَا كَانَ قَائِمًا ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ ، فَقَامَ فَمَا صَلَّى إِلَّا رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّى جَاءَ بلَالٌ فَآذَنَهُ بالصَّلَاةِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I prayed with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began Surah Al-Baqarah. When he reached one hundred verses, I thought that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would now bow (ruku‘), but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued reciting until he reached two hundred verses. I thought that perhaps now he would bow, but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued reciting until he completed it. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began Surah An-Nisa’ and, after reciting it, performed ruku‘. In his ruku‘, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept saying "Subhana Rabbiyal ‘Azim" and in his prostration "Subhana Rabbiyal A‘la". Whenever he passed by a verse of mercy, he would pause and supplicate, and whenever he passed by a verse of punishment, he would pause and seek refuge from it.
