Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Wabisa Asadi that he said: I was in my house in Kufa when suddenly I heard at my door: "Assalamu Alaikum, may I come in?" I said, "Wa Alaikum Assalam, come in." So it was Abdullah bin Mas'ud. I said, "O Abu Abdur Rahman! What time is this for a meeting? It is the middle of the day." He said, "The day had become long for me, so I thought I would talk to someone." Then he began to narrate the ahadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to me, and I also narrated ahadith to him. Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "There will be a tribulation in which the one who is sleeping will be better than the one lying on his side, and the one lying on his side will be better than the one sitting, and the one sitting will be better than the one standing, and the one standing will be better than the one walking, and the one walking will be better than the one running. All those killed in this tribulation will go to Hell." The narrator, Hazrat Abdullah, said: I asked, "When will this be, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He said, "It will be during the days of Harj." I asked, "When will the days of Harj be?" He said, "When a person will not be safe from his companion." Hazrat Abdullah said: I asked, "If I reach that time, what do you command me to do?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Enter your house." I asked, "If someone enters my house, what do you advise?" He said, "Then go into your room." I said, "If he enters there as well, what do you think?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then do this" (he, peace and blessings be upon him, made a gesture, the details of which are found in the narration of Musnad Ahmad, that the narrator grasped his wrist with his right hand to explain the gesture) "and say: 'Return with my sin and your own sin, and become a slain servant of Allah.'"

It is narrated from Hazrat Jundub bin Sufyan that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Soon after me there will be tribulations like pieces of a dark night. People will collide with them as herds of wild bulls collide. In them, a person will wake up as a Muslim and by evening become a disbeliever, and in the evening be a Muslim and by morning become a disbeliever. One of the Muslims asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), what should we do at that time?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Enter your homes and make yourselves unknown. One of the Muslims asked, "What do you think if someone enters the house of one of us?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: He should withhold his hand and become a slain servant of Allah, and not a killer servant of Allah. Surely, a person's faith is strong, yet he eats his brother's wealth, sheds his blood, disobeys his Lord, and denies his Creator, so Hell becomes obligatory for him.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Umar that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Is any one of you incapable, when someone comes to kill him, meaning that someone among certain people says that he should do so, and he gestured with one hand towards the other hand, then he will become like the best of the children of Adam, and that person will be in Paradise and his killer will be in Hell.

It is narrated from Hazrat Shurayh that he said: Since the turmoil began, neither did I inform about it nor was I asked about it. Masruq said to him: If I were in your place, I would have preferred to die. Shurayh said to him: What will be your condition at that time when the turmoil increases even more? There will be a fight between two groups, and one of them will be more beloved to me than the other.

It is narrated from Hazrat Safwan bin Muhriz that he said: Each one of you should beware lest there is not the distance of a palm’s breadth of a Muslim’s blood between him and Paradise.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Alia that he said: We used to discuss among ourselves that a time will soon come upon people when the best person among his family will be the one who, upon seeing goodness and virtue, will begin to follow it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that he said the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A believer will not be killed by deception; faith has prevented killing by deception.

It is narrated from Hasan Basri that he said: During the days of the Battle of Jamal, a man came to Hazrat Zubair and said, "Shall I kill Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) for you?" He replied, "How?" The man said, "I will go to him and tell him that I am with him, then, taking advantage of the opportunity, I will kill him deceitfully." Hazrat Zubair said, "No. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that faith prevents killing by deceit. A believer should not be killed deceitfully."

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: My companions learned about good, and I learned about evil. People asked: What prompted you to do this? He replied: Indeed, the person who knows the place of evil will be able to avoid it.

Hazrat Abu Zar’ah bin Amr narrates from Hazrat Abu Hurairah, who said: Verily, a man will be killed a thousand times on the Day of Resurrection. Asim bin Abi al-Bakhud asked Hazrat Abu Zar’ah, “O Abu Zar’ah, will he be killed a thousand times?” He replied: In recompense for the blows he dealt to those he killed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Do not engage in farming with me near populated areas, because if you take up farming, you will fight over its water with swords, and if you start fighting, you will adopt disbelief.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The tribes of Uraynah, Aqeedah, Asiyyah, and Qatee'ah all made a pact upon blame.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Accept those gifts which are sustenance for you, but when these gifts are in exchange for religion, then leave them firmly.

It is narrated from Hazrat Salman that he said: Accept those gifts which are purely for you, and when they become tainted for you, then leave them completely.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that he said: "A time will come upon you when a fox will complete its nap between two of the pillars of the mosque." The narrator, Abdul Malik bin Umair, said: "By this is meant the mosque of Madinah, and this situation will be due to desolation."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that he said: This Ummah will not be destroyed until (such a situation will arise that) the killer will kill and he will not know for what he killed, nor will the one who is killed know for what he was killed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Tawoos that he said: The reciters (Qurraa) will be killed until their slain reach Yemen. Someone asked him, "Did not Hajjaj do this?" He replied, "This has not happened yet."

It is narrated from Hazrat Zubair bin Adi that he said: Ibrahim said to me, "Avoid being killed in times of tribulation (fitnah)."

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Beware, none of you should walk even a span to humiliate a person in authority. By Allah, those who humiliated a king will themselves be continuously humiliated on the Day of Judgment.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Because of this excrement, there will be a fight between two groups. I do not care which of the two I recognize you among. One person asked: Will they be in Paradise or in Hell? He replied: This is exactly what I am telling you. He asked: What will be the condition of those killed among them? He said: They will be like those killed in the days of ignorance.

It is narrated from Hazrat Suhaim bin Nofal that he said: Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood instructed me, "What will be your condition when those who pray will fight among themselves?" I asked, "Will this happen?" He replied, "Yes, it will be the companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him)." The narrator said, "I asked, 'What should I do at that time?'" He replied, "Restrain your tongue, keep your place of residence hidden, and it is obligatory upon you to do good, and do not abandon good because of evil."

It is narrated from Hazrat Harith bin Qais that he said Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood instructed me, "Do you wish that Allah places you in the middle of Paradise?" The narrator said, "I replied, 'May I be sacrificed for you, this is exactly what I desire.'" He instructed, "Adhere to the congregation," or he said, "It is obligatory upon people to adhere to the congregation."

It is narrated from Ayyub that he said: Hasan said to me, "Are you not amazed at the courage of Sa'id bin Jubayr? He came to me and asked me about the battle with Hajjaj, and there were some leaders with him as well." By leaders, he meant the companions of Ibn al-Ash'ath.

It is narrated from Ibn Aun that he said: According to the people of Basra, Muslim bin Yasar held a higher status than Hasan, to the extent that he joined Ibn al-Ash'ath, and his position declined, while Hasan remained steadfast. Abu Saeed always prevailed in Basra, and the others declined.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir bin Hazim that he said: An elder from the people of Makkah told me that I saw Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar during the days of the battle of Ibn Zubair; he entered the mosque where there were weapons, and he began to say: "You have considered the world to be something great, you have considered the world to be something great," until he performed the Istilam (touching) of the Hajar Aswad.
