Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Sha'bi that a man called out "Ya Dhabah" and sought help from a hyena. Hazrat Sha'bi said that a letter regarding this matter was written to Hazrat Umar. The narrator says that Hazrat Umar replied in writing: "Punish him," or he said, "Teach him manners." Undoubtedly, the hyena has never removed any evil from them, nor has it drawn any good or benefit towards them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri that Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit related to us from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: Seek refuge with Allah from tribulations, those that are apparent and those that are hidden. We said: We seek refuge with Allah from tribulations, those among them that are apparent and those that are hidden.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that when Hazrat Uthman ordered him to leave for Madinah, people gathered around him and said to him, "Stay, we will protect you and nothing undesirable will reach you." Hazrat Abdullah replied, "Indeed, soon there will be some matters and tribulations. I do not wish to be the first among those who open them. They have a right of obedience over me." The narrator states that he sent the people back and left according to the order of Hazrat Uthman.

It is narrated from Hazrat Yasir bin Amr, he said: We were companions of Hazrat Ibn Masood when he set out, and he stopped on the way to Qadisiyyah. Then he entered a garden to relieve himself, then performed ablution and wiped over his socks. Then he came out while drops of water were dripping from his beard. We said to him: Advise us, for people have fallen into tribulations and we do not know whether we will meet you again or not. He said: Fear Allah and be patient until the righteous person finds relief or relief is found from the wicked sinner. And it is obligatory upon you to stick to the congregation, for surely Allah Almighty will not gather the Ummah of Muhammad upon misguidance.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Surely, there will be kings, then oppressors, then rebellious people.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out towards those who were staying in the chambers and said: O people staying in the chambers! The fire of Hell will be kindled and tribulations will come like pieces of a dark night. If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: There will be tribulations which will be like the forehead of a cow; in them, most people will be destroyed except those who recognize them before they occur.

Hazrat Abu Safar narrates from a man of the Banu Abs, who said: Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) instructed us, "What will be your condition when Allah Almighty will let the matter of the Ummah of Muhammad be lost?" A man said, "You always tell us such unpleasant things. Will Allah Almighty let the matter of the Ummah of Muhammad be lost?" Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Tell me, when their ruler will be a man whose worth (status and position) in the sight of Allah Almighty will not even be equal to the wing of a mosquito, then what do you think, will not the religious matter of the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) be lost on that day?"

Hazrat Khalid bin Urfatah narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: O Khalid, indeed, in the future there will be new things and differences. The narrator Affan says: He also said, and there will be separation, that is, division. So when this happens, if you are able, then be the one who is killed, not the killer (Affan the narrator reports), then do so.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Burdah that he said: I went to Hazrat Muhammad bin Maslamah and said to him, "May Allah have mercy on you, you are at such a rank in this matter; if you go out to the people, you could forbid and command them." He replied, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Soon there will be tribulations and divisions and disagreements. So if that happens, take your sword and go to Mount Uhud, strike your sword on it until you break it, then sit in your house until someone comes to you—either a wrongdoer with his hand or death that decides.' So this has happened, therefore I have done exactly as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed me."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Sirin that he said: I have received this information that indeed Syria will continue to remain favorable until the beginning of those tribulations starts from Syria.

Hazrat Aamir narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever dies in such a state that there is no obedience (to a leader) incumbent upon him, he dies the death of ignorance. And whoever breaks the bond of obedience after having tied it, then there is no proof in his favor.

Hazrat Asim Bajli said: Ask your Bakali. By this he meant Nauf Bakali. In Sha'ban, there is a sign; in Ramadan, there are youths; and in Shawwal, discernment and killing and the uproar of fighting; in Dhu al-Qa'dah, and in Dhu al-Hijjah, regarding the decision.

Hazrat Salman bin Rabee’ah narrates from Hazrat Umar that he said: Soon there will be rulers and officials; loving them will be a trial (fitnah), and separating from them will be disbelief (kufr). The narrator says: I said, “Allahu Akbar, please repeat it, O Commander of the Faithful, this has relieved my grief.” Hazrat Umar repeated it. Hazrat Salman bin Rabee’ah said: Allah the Exalted has said, “Fitnah is more severe than killing, and fitnah is more beloved to me than killing.”

Muhammad narrates: Hazrat Abu Mas'ud Ansari came to Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) during his final illness, when the illness had become severe with him. Hazrat Abu Mas'ud Ansari asked, "Is this separation?" So Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "Yes, the friend has come upon hunger. I will not attain success due to regret. Will there not be tribulations after me, which I know of?"

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us many examples—one, three, five, seven, nine, eleven—and he explained one of them to us and remained silent about the rest. Thus he said: Indeed, there were some people who were weak and destitute, so they fought with people of strategy and swiftness. The people of strategy prevailed over them, put them to work, and became dominant over them. Thus, they made their Lord angry with them.

Hazrat Alaa bin Abdul Kareem says: One of our villagers narrated to us, he said that I migrated towards Kufa and I took my grants, then it occurred to me that I should leave from here. People said, "There is no migration for you." I met Hazrat Suwaid bin Ghaflah and told him about this matter. Then he said, "I wish that I only had those things with which I could make a living, and I would live in one of the surrounding areas."

Hazrat Hilal bin Khabbab narrates from Abu Al-Ala that I asked Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair, I said, O Abu Abdullah, what is the sign of the destruction of the people? He replied, When their scholars perish.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: By Allah, no condition will come upon them in which they will cry out and wail, except that after it will come another condition that will occupy them even more than before.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mak'hool that it was said: There is nothing between the intense battle, the conquest of Constantinople, and the emergence of Dajjal except seven months, and this will not happen except like a necklace when it breaks, so the pearls come one after another (that is, these events will occur one after the other).

It is narrated from Hazrat Muadh bin Jabal that he said: The flourishing of Bayt al-Maqdis is the ruin of Yathrib, and the occurrence of battle is the conquest of the city of Constantinople, and the conquest of Constantinople is the emergence of Dajjal. Then he placed his hand on a man's shoulder and said: By Allah, without doubt, this is the truth.

Hazrat Thiyyi’ bin Ma’dan Al-Kufi says: When you see a wall being built around Kufa, then leave from there, even if you have to crawl. There will come red, black horses and black horses, until two men will quarrel over a woman; one will say, “This side of her is for me,” and the other will say, “Her leg is for me.”

Hazrat Muhammad bin Al-Hanafiyyah said: If Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had found our matter, then that would have been the time for his departure; by this he meant the mountain pass.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sahar that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Day of Judgment will not be established until tribes are swallowed up (by the earth), to the extent that a person will be asked, "Who remains from such-and-such lineage?" The narrator, Hazrat Sahar, says: I realized that the Arabs will be called towards their tribes, and indeed the non-Arabs will go towards their settlements.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Indeed, in my Ummah there will be sinking into the earth, transformation of faces, and pelting with stones.

It is narrated from Hazrat Zainab bint Jahsh that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up from his sleep with his face red and was saying, "There is no god but Allah. Woe to the Arabs from the evil that has drawn near. Today, a hole has been opened in the wall of Gog and Magog," and he made a circle with his fingers, showing the number ten by placing the edge of the finger next to the thumb in the middle of the bend of the right thumb. Hazrat Zainab said: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), can we be destroyed while there are righteous people among us?" He replied, "Yes, when wickedness becomes widespread."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When evil spreads in the land, Allah sends His punishment upon the people of the earth. She said: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, even if there are those among them who are obedient to Allah?" He said: "Yes, then they will go towards the mercy of Allah."

Hazrat Anas narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Before the Day of Judgment, there will be tribulations like pieces of a dark night. A person will be a believer in the morning and become a disbeliever by evening, and will be a disbeliever in the morning and become a Muslim by evening. Some people will sell their religion for worldly goods.

It is narrated from Hazrat Qais that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, raised his head towards the sky and then said: "Glory be to Allah, trials have been sent down upon them like the sending down of raindrops."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Dhuha that a man said to Hazrat Umar, "O Allah, I seek Your refuge from weakness of opinion and ignorance." (Addressing that man, he said) "Do you like that Allah should not give you wealth and children? When any of you seeks refuge from tribulations, he should seek refuge from the misguidance of those tribulations."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Qabtiah that he said: Harith bin Abi Rabee’ah and Abdullah bin Safwan went to Hazrat Umm Salamah, and I was with them. Both of them asked her about the army that would be swallowed up, and this incident occurred during the time of Hazrat Abdullah bin Zubair. Hazrat Umm Salamah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A seeker of refuge will take refuge in the House of Allah (the Ka’bah). An army will be sent towards him. When they reach an open plain, they will be swallowed up. We asked: O Messenger of Allah, what will be the condition of the person who is forced to go along with them? He replied: He too will be swallowed up with them, but on the Day of Resurrection, he will be raised according to his intention. Abu Ja’far, the narrator, says: This was the plain of Madinah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When two Muslims confront each other with their swords, and one of them kills the other, then both of them will go to Hell. The companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah, this one is the killer, but what is the fault of the one who was killed?" He replied: Indeed, he also intended to kill his companion.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Raqad that he said: I went out with my master while I was a slave. I was brought to Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) in a state that he was saying: If a person had spoken such words in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would have become a hypocrite. And indeed, I have heard these words from each one of you in every gathering four times. (These words are:) You must certainly enjoin good and you must certainly forbid evil, and you must certainly remain upon good, otherwise Allah will destroy you all through punishment, or He will appoint your wicked ones as rulers over you, then your good people will pray, but their prayers will not be accepted.

It is narrated from Hazrat Tharwan bin Malhan that he said: We were sitting in the mosque when Hazrat Ammar bin Yasir passed by us. We requested him, "Please narrate to us a hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding tribulations (fitnah)." He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, "Soon after me there will be rulers who will fight over the kingdom (i.e., for the acquisition of power), and in this, some will kill others." We said to him, "If anyone other than you had narrated this to us, we would have denied it." He replied, "Indeed, this will surely happen."

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah that she said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: A man will be pledged allegiance to between the Rukn Yamani and Maqam Ibrahim, equal in number to the people of Badr. Groups of ascetics from Iraq and the Abdal from Syria will come to him. A Syrian army will fight against him until, when they are in a field, they will be swallowed up by the earth. Then a man from the Quraysh, whose maternal uncles are from Banu Kalb, will fight against them. There will be a clash between them, and Allah will grant them victory. It was then said: Unsuccessful is the one who is deprived of the spoils of Kalb.

It is narrated from Hazrat Safiyyah that she says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: People will not refrain from attacking this House, that is, the Ka'bah, until an army sets out for battle. When they are in an open field in the earth, the front and rear of them will be swallowed up, and those in the middle will not be saved either. Hazrat Safiyyah says: I submitted, "If among them there is such and such a person who was forced (to join)?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah Almighty will raise them according to the intention (and so on) that was in their hearts.

It is narrated from Hazrat Maymunah that she said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us one day: What will be your condition when the religion will no longer be preserved, and worldly desires will become apparent, and there will be discord among brothers, and the old house (i.e., the Ka'bah) will be set on fire.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (he said that) the Kaaba will be demolished by a man with thin shins who will be from Abyssinia.

It is narrated from Hazrat Salman that he said: Surely, this house will be demolished by the hand of a man from the descendants of Hazrat Zubair.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid that he heard Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar saying that it is as if I see a bald man with crooked limbs at the Ka'bah, who is standing on it and knocking it down with his adze. Hazrat Mujahid says that when Hazrat Abdullah bin Zubair demolished the Ka'bah, I observed the condition described by Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), but I did not find such a condition.
