Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Malik Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Purity is half of faith.

Hazrat Hujr bin Adi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Purity is half of faith.

Imam Awza'i (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Hazrat Hassan bin Atiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Wudu is half of faith.

Hazrat Abu Laila Kindi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the son of Hazrat Hajr (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Hazrat Hajr (may Allah have mercy on him) saw one of his sons, who, after coming out of the toilet, said, "O boy, give me the Qur'an from the niche." I heard Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) say that purity is half of faith.

Hazrat Hawari, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: The foundation and essence of religion is prayer and zakat; there will be no distinction made between these two, and performing Hajj of the House of Allah, and fasting in Ramadan, and indeed among the good deeds are charity and jihad. Rise and go forth for jihad.

Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Among the believers, those who have the most perfect faith are the ones who are best in character.

Hazrat Ma'qil Khath'ami (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a man came to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was in the courtyard of his house. Then the man said: O Commander of the Faithful! What is your opinion about the woman who does not pray? He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: Whoever does not pray is a disbeliever.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Zumrah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever establishes prayer and pays zakat, indeed his faith is of a moderate level.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Zumrah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever establishes prayer and pays zakat, and listens and obeys, indeed his faith is of a moderate level. And whoever loves for the sake of Allah, and hates for the sake of Allah, and gives for the sake of Allah, and withholds for the sake of Allah, indeed his faith has become complete.

Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Ubaid al-Kala'i (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Mak'hool (may Allah have mercy on him) held my hand and said: O Abu Wahb (may Allah have mercy on him)! Increase the greatness of faith within yourself. Whoever deliberately abandons an obligatory prayer, indeed Allah's protection is absolved from him, and whoever is absolved of Allah's protection, indeed he has committed disbelief.

Hazrat Abu Ishaq (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Patience holds the same position in faith as the head does in the body. Thus, when patience is gone, faith also departs.

Hazrat Sillah, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that Hazrat Ammar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: There are three things, whoever combines them has gathered faith! To be just with oneself, to spend instead of being miserly, and to spread peace in the world.

Hazrat Sillah, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that Hazrat Ammar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: These people have no share in faith. He said: Those who do not fulfill their promises.

Hazrat Mansur (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It is said! That person will not enter Hell who has faith equal to a mustard seed in his heart.

Hazrat Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The firm foundation of faith is to love someone for the pleasure of Allah, and to harbor enmity for the pleasure of Allah.

Hazrat Adi bin Adi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) wrote to me and said: After praise and salutations, indeed faith has certain obligations, rules, limits, and regulations. So whoever fulfills them, his faith becomes complete, and whoever does not fulfill them, his faith also does not become complete. So if I remain alive, soon I will explain them to you so that you may act upon them, and if I die before telling you, then I am not very desirous of your company.

Hazrat Hisham bin Sa’d (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Zaid bin Aslam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Four things are essential for the people of religion: entering into the call of Islam, and having faith is necessary, and affirming Allah, and His first and last messengers, and Paradise, Hell, and resurrection after death, and it is necessary to do such deeds that confirm the truthfulness of their faith, and it is necessary to acquire as much knowledge through which their actions become good. Then he (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: “And indeed, I am Most Forgiving to the one who repents and believes and does righteous deeds, then remains guided.”

Hazrat Jariri (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Shaqiq (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) did not consider anyone to be a disbeliever for abandoning any deed except for prayer. The narrator says: They used to say that abandoning prayer is disbelief.

Hazrat Asim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that it was said to Hazrat Abu Wa'il (may Allah be pleased with him): Indeed, some people say that the believers will enter Hell. He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: By Allah! Hell will be filled with people other than the believers.

Hazrat Mughira, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that a man asked Hazrat Shaqiq, may Allah have mercy on him: Did you, may Allah have mercy on him, hear Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, say: Indeed, whoever testifies that he is a believer, then he should also testify that surely he will be in Paradise? Hazrat Shaqiq, may Allah have mercy on him, replied: Yes! I have heard this. You (should) write the Book of Faith, and all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and blessings upon Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him. (The chapter on faith is completed.)
