Ibn Abi Husayn (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: Sayyidah Durrah bint Abi Lahab (may Allah be pleased with her) was married to al-Harith bin Abdullah bin Nawfal, and from him were born to her Uqbah, al-Walid and Abu Muslim. Then she came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah, and the people talked a great deal about her parents. So she came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, is there no one born of the disbelievers except me?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked her: "What is the matter?" She said: "The people of Madinah have hurt me concerning my parents." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "When you pray Zuhr, pray where I can see (you)." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Zuhr prayer, then turned towards her, and facing the people he said: "O people, do you have lineage while I have no lineage?" At this Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) leapt up and said: "May Allah be angry with whoever has angered you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is my paternal uncle's daughter, so let no one say anything to her except good."

Sayyidah Durrah bint Abi Lahab (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I was with Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) when a man was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who had called out to him (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was on the pulpit, and had said: "O Messenger of Allah, who is the best of people?" She said: Then the man came and was seized, and he said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am not at fault; so-and-so ordered me." At this the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of people is the one among them who is most God-fearing, who most enjoins what is right, who most forbids what is wrong, and who most maintains the ties of kinship."

It is narrated from the husband of Abu Jahl's daughter, who narrates from Abu Jahl's daughter; she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by us and asked for water, so I got up with a jug to give him (peace and blessings be upon him) to drink. Meanwhile a man wearing two green garments asked him (peace and blessings be upon him) a question, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That you worship Allah, associating nothing with Him, establish the prayer, and pay the zakah." Then he said: "The best of my Ummah is my generation, then those who come after them."
Imam al-Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Shu'bah made an error in the chain of this hadith. (Note: This report relates to the daughter of Abu Jahl rather than Durrah bint Abi Lahab, who is named in the heading of the chapter.)

The husband of Abu Lahab's daughter (Durrah, may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When I married Abu Lahab's daughter, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to our house and said: "Is there any entertainment?"

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah and Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with them) narrate: Sayyidah Durrah bint Abi Lahab (may Allah be pleased with her) came to Madinah as an emigrant and stayed in the house of Rafi' bin al-Mu'alla al-Zuraqi. Some women of Banu Zurayq who were sitting with her said to her: "Are you the daughter of that Abu Lahab about whom Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he! His wealth did not avail him, nor what he earned' [Surah al-Masad: 2]? What benefit will your emigration be to you?" So Durrah (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and complained to him about what those women had said to her. He (peace and blessings be upon him) comforted her and said: "Sit down." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in the Zuhr prayer and sat on the pulpit for a while, then said: "O people, why am I hurt concerning my family? By Allah, my intercession will reach even (the tribes of) Hayy Ha, Hukm, Suda and Salhab on the Day of Resurrection."
