Sayyidah Asma' bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) and his companions were martyred, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me when I had kneaded their dough, bathed my sons, oiled them and cleaned them up. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring me the sons of Ja'far." She said: So I brought them to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) smelled them and his (peace and blessings be upon him) eyes shed tears. I said: O Messenger of Allah! May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, why are you weeping? Has some news reached you about Ja'far and his companions? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, they were martyred today." She said: So I got up crying out, and the women gathered around me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to his family and said: "Do not neglect the family of Ja'far; prepare food for them, for they are preoccupied with the death of their man."

Umm Ja'far (may Allah have mercy on her) narrates from her grandmother, Sayyidah Asma' bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed Zuhr at al-Sahba', then sent Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) on some errand. He returned when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had already prayed Asr. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his head in the lap of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and slept, and he did not move him (peace and blessings be upon him) until the sun set. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Your servant Ali held himself back for the sake of his Prophet, so bring the sun back for him." She said: So the sun rose again for him until it was high above the mountains and the earth, and Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) got up, performed ablution and prayed Asr. Then it set again, and this happened at al-Sahba'.

Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Your grandmother Fatimah was sent as a bride to your grandfather Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both), and the stuffing of her bed and pillow was nothing but palm fibre. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) gave a wedding feast (walimah) for Fatimah, and in that time there was no wedding feast better than his. He had pawned his coat of mail with a Jew for half (a measure) of barley."
