حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا أَبُو نَصْرٍ التَّمَّارُ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ لِفُلَانٍ نَخْلَةً وَأَنَا أُقِيمُ حَائِطِي بِهَا فَأَمْرُهْ أَنْ يُعْطِينِي إِيَّاهَا حَتَّى أُقِيمَ بِهَا حَائِطِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَعْطِهَا إِيَّاهُ بِنَخْلَةٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ» فَأَبَى فَأَتَى أَبُو الدَّحْدَاحِ الرَّجُلَ، فَقَالَ: بِعْنِي نَخْلَتَكَ بِحَائِطِي، فَفَعَلَ، فَأَتَى أَبُو الدَّحْدَاحِ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ «إِنِّي قَدِ ابْتَعْتُ النَّخْلَةَ بِحَائِطِي، فَاجْعَلْهَا لَهُ وَقَدْ أَعْطَيْتُكَهَا» فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «كَمْ مِنْ عِذْقِ رَدَاحٍ لِأَبِي الدَّحْدَاحِ مِرَارًا» ، فَأَتَى أَبُو الدَّحْدَاحِ امْرَأَتَهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا أُمَّ الدَّحْدَاحِ اخْرُجِي مِنَ الْحَائِطِ فَقَدْ بِعْتُهُ بِنَخْلَةٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، فَقَالَتْ: رَبِحَ الْبَيْعُ أَوْ كَلِمَةً تُشْبِهُهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, so-and-so has a date palm, and I complete the wall of my orchard with it. Order him to give it to me so that I can complete my wall. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give it to him, and in exchange you will have a date palm in Paradise." He refused. Then Abu al-Dahdah went to that man and said: Sell me your date palm in exchange for my orchard. He did so. Then Abu al-Dahdah came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have bought that date palm in exchange for my orchard; give it to that first man, for I have given it to you. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How many heavily laden clusters of dates there are for Abu al-Dahdah (in Paradise)!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this several times. Then Abu al-Dahdah went to his wife and said: O Umm al-Dahdah, come out of the orchard, for I have sold it in exchange for a date palm in Paradise. She said: The sale has profited! - or she said words to that effect.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا خَلَفُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ {مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يُقْرِضُ اللهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا} [البقرة: ٢٤٥] ، قَالَ أَبُو الدَّحْدَاحِ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ اللهَ يُرِيدُ مِنَّا الْقَرْضَ، قَالَ: «نَعَمْ يَا أَبَا الدَّحْدَاحِ» ، قَالَ: أَرِنِي يَدَكَ، فَنَاوَلَهُ يَدَهُ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي قَدْ أَقْرَضْتُ رَبِّي حَائِطِي، وَفِي حَائِطِي سِتَّمِائَةٍ نَخْلَةٍ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ إِلَى الْحَائِطِ فَنَادَى يَا أُمَّ الدَّحْدَاحِ، وَهِيَ فِي الْحَائِطِ فَقَالَتْ: لَبَّيْكَ فَقَالَ: اخْرُجِي فَقَدْ أَقْرَضْتُهُ رَبِّي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): When this verse was revealed: "Who is it that will lend Allah a goodly loan" [Surah al-Baqarah: 245], Abu al-Dahdah said: O Messenger of Allah, does Allah want a loan from us? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, O Abu al-Dahdah." He said: Show me your hand. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him his hand. He said: I have lent my orchard to my Lord, and in my orchard there are six hundred date palms. Then he went to the orchard and called out: O Umm al-Dahdah! She was in the orchard, and she said: Labbayk (Here I am). He said: Come out, for I have lent it to my Lord.
حَدَّثَنَا جَبْرُونَ بْنُ عِيسَى الْمَغْرِبِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْجَفْرِيُّ الْمَغْرِبِيُّ، ثنا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ: أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ضَرَبَ عَلَى النَّاسِ بَعْثًا فَخَرَجُوا فَرَجَعَ أَبُو الدَّحْدَاحِ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ: أَلَمْ تَكُنْ خَرَجْتَ مَعَ النَّاسِ؟، قَالَ: بَلَى، وَلَكِنِّي سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدِيثًا فَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أَضَعَهُ عِنْدَكَ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ لَا تَلْقَانِي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنْ وَلِيَ مِنْكُمْ عَمَلًا فَحَجَبَ بَابَهُ عَنْ ذِي حَاجَةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ حَجَبَهُ اللهُ أَنْ يَلِجَ بَابَ الْجَنَّةِ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِمَّتُهُ الدُّنْيَا حَرَّمَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ جَوَارِيَ، فَإِنِّي بُعِثْتُ بِخَرابِ الدُّنْيَا وَلَمْ أُبْعَثْ بِعَمَارَتِهَا»
Awn bin Abi Juhayfah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered the people to prepare an expedition, and the people set out, but Sayyiduna Abu al-Dahdah (may Allah be pleased with him) came back. Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him: Did you not set out with the people? He said: Indeed I did, but I heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I wanted to leave it in trust with you, for fear that we might not meet again. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "O people, whoever among you is placed in charge of any affair and shuts his door against the needy among the Muslims, Allah Almighty will shut the door of Paradise against him; and whoever's concern is only this world, Allah will forbid him my neighbourhood (my company), for I was sent to lay waste to this world, and I was not sent to build it up."
