Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had forbidden eating the meat of sacrificial animals beyond three days. Then I set out on a journey, and when I returned to my family, I found that my wife had greens containing dried meat (qadid), which she brought to me. I asked her: Where did you get this dried meat? She said: From the sacrifices. We said: Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) not forbid us to eat it beyond three days? She said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) has permitted eating it. I was not satisfied with what she said until I went to my brother, Sayyiduna Qatadah bin al-Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him), and asked him about it. He sent word to me: Eat your food, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has permitted that. So I ate it.
