Sayyiduna Abu Kahil (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I passed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was performing ablution (wudu), and I said: O Messenger of Allah, Allah Almighty has granted us a great deal of good through you. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) washed his palms, then rinsed his mouth three times, put water into his nose three times, washed his face three times and washed both his forearms three times. He wiped his head and fixed no number for it, and he wiped the tops of both his feet and fixed no number for that either. Then he said: "O Abu Kahil, put the water of ablution in its proper places (that is, do not pour more than is needed), and leave the remainder of your ablution water for your family. Do not leave your family thirsty, and do not make things hard for your servant."

Sayyiduna Abu Kahil (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A dispute arose between two men from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), until they came to blows. I met one of them and said: What is the matter between you and so-and-so? I have heard him praising you highly and praying for you a great deal. Then I met the other and said something similar to him, and I kept going back and forth between them until they were reconciled. Then I said (to myself): What have I done? I have destroyed myself, though I have made peace between them. So I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him the whole matter. I said: O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, I did not hear anything of the sort from this one, nor anything from that one. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Kahil, make peace between people, even if it is by such-and-such" - he used a word that I did not understand. So I asked: What did he (peace and blessings be upon him) mean by it? (The one who answered) said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) meant lying.

Sayyiduna Abu Kahil (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Abu Kahil, shall I not tell you of a decree that Allah has made binding upon Himself?" I said: Certainly, O Messenger of Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah keep your heart alive and not let it die until your body dies. Know, O Abu Kahil, that the Lord of Might will never be angry with one in whose heart there is fear (of Him), and the Fire will not consume even a single hair of his eyelashes. Know, O Abu Kahil, that whoever covers his private parts out of modesty before Allah, in secret and in public, it is a right upon Allah that He cover his private parts on the Day of Resurrection. Know, O Abu Kahil, that whoever has the sweetness of prayer enter his heart, so that he completes its bowing and its prostrations, it is a right upon Allah that He please him on the Day of Resurrection. Know, O Abu Kahil, that whoever prays for forty days and forty nights in congregation, catching the opening takbir, it is a right upon Allah that He write for him a release from the Fire. Know, O Abu Kahil, that whoever fasts three days of every month along with the month of Ramadan, it is a right upon Allah that He quench his thirst on the Day of Thirst. Know, O Abu Kahil, that whoever withholds his harm from people, it is a right upon Allah that He withhold from him the torment of the grave. Know, O Abu Kahil, that whoever is dutiful to his parents, in their lifetime and after their death, it is a right upon Allah that He please him on the Day of Resurrection." (Abu Kahil (may Allah be pleased with him)) said: I said: How can he be dutiful to his parents after they have died? He said: "Dutifulness to them is that he seeks forgiveness for them, and that he does not insult anyone's parents so that the other insults his parents in return. Know, O Abu Kahil, that whoever pays the zakah of his wealth when it falls due, it is a right upon Allah that He make him one of the companions of the prophets. Know, O Abu Kahil, that whoever regards his good deeds as little and his sins as great, it is a right upon Allah that He make his scale heavy on the Day of Resurrection. Know, O Abu Kahil, that whoever strives to provide for his wife, his children and those under his authority, establishing the command of Allah among them and feeding them from what is lawful, it is a right upon Allah that He place him among the martyrs in their ranks. Know, O Abu Kahil, that whoever sends blessings upon me three times every day and three times every night, out of love for me and longing for me, it is a right upon Allah that He forgive his sins of that night and that day. Know, O Abu Kahil, that whoever testifies with certainty that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, alone, it is a right upon Allah that for each such testimony He forgive a year's sins."
