Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A delegation of Banu Tamim came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Banu Tamim, accept the glad tidings." They said: "You have given us glad tidings, now give us something as well." This showed on his (peace and blessings be upon him) face. Then a delegation of the people of Yemen came, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Accept the glad tidings, since Banu Tamim did not accept them." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we have accepted."

Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, existed and there was nothing besides Him, and His Throne was upon the water, and He wrote in the Dhikr (the Preserved Tablet) everything that was to be, then He created the heavens." And someone said: "Look after your she-camel." So I stood up, and the mirage was hiding it from view. I wish it had gone, and that I had taken in the complete hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a she-camel and tied it at the door, then went inside. Some people of Banu Tamim came to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Accept the glad tidings." They said: "We have accepted, now give us something." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from them. Then some people from Yemen came, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Accept the glad tidings, and do not say as Banu Tamim said." They said: "We have accepted; now tell us about the beginning of this matter." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah existed and there was nothing besides Him, and His Throne was upon the water." Then a man came and said: "O Ibn Husayn, look after your she-camel." So I went and caught up with it in the mirage. By Allah, I wish I had just left it.

Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates the same from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), except that it contains this addition: "And He created the Dhikr (the Preserved Tablet)." Imam Abu al-Qasim al-Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Muhammad bin Ubayd used to make a mistake in this word, and Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal used to forbid him from narrating it this way. What is correct is what Abu Bakr bin Ayyash and others narrated: 'And He wrote the Dhikr.'"

They said: "We have come to gain understanding of the religion, and we ask you about the beginning of this matter: how was it?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty existed and there was nothing besides Him, and His Throne was upon the water, and He wrote everything in the Dhikr (the Preserved Tablet), then He created the heavens and the earth." Then a man came to me and said: "Look after your she-camel, it has gone." So I went out and found that the mirage was hiding it from view. By Allah, I wish I had just left it.
