Salim al-Barrad (may Allah have mercy on him), who in the view of Ata bin al-Sa'ib was more trustworthy than Ata himself, said: Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) said to us: "Shall I not lead you in the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to show you?" When he bowed (ruku'), he placed his palms on his knees, spread his fingers apart, and kept his arms away from his sides until every part of him settled; then he said the takbir, then he prostrated and kept his arms away from his sides until every part of him settled; then he said the takbir and sat upright until every part of him settled. In this way he led us in four rak'ahs, then said: "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) pray," or: "This is how the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was."

So he stood, said the takbir, then placed his palms on his knees, and then narrated the rest of the same hadith mentioned above.

So he stood and said the takbir, then he bowed, placed his palms on his knees, put his fingers below his knees, and kept his arms away until every part of him settled in its place; then he rose, and when every part of him had settled, he prostrated, placed his palms on the ground, kept his arms away and raised his head; and when every part of him had settled, he did the same again. In this way he prayed four rak'ahs, then said: "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) lead us in prayer."
