Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Salam narrates that his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam, may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us and said: "O people of Quba! Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has praised you regarding purification; will you not tell me (what you do)?" We said: "O Messenger of Allah, we were commanded in the Torah to cleanse ourselves (istinja) with water."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us at the mosque whose foundation was laid on piety, that is, the Mosque of Quba. He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood at its door and said: "Allah Almighty has praised you highly regarding purification; what is your purification?" We said: "O Messenger of Allah, we are people of the Scriptures, and we find written (in our scripture) that we must cleanse ourselves (istinja) with water, and we do so to this day." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has praised you highly regarding purification, for Allah said: 'Therein are men who love to purify themselves, and Allah loves those who purify themselves.'" [Surah al-Tawbah: 108]

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by the place called al-Hulaymah on his journey to Tabuk, the Companions said: "O Messenger of Allah, here there is shade and water; let us camp here," for there were doum palms (a kind of palm) and water there. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is a land of crops and cattle. Leave her (that is, the she-camel), for she is under command (from Allah)." He meant his she-camel. So she went on until she knelt down under that very doum palm which was in the mosque of Dhu al-Marwah.
