حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هَوْذَةُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ عَوْذَ اللهَ الْقُرَشِيُّ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا عَوْفٌ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ، قَالَ: لَمَّا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ انْجَفَلَ النَّاسُ قِبَلَهُ، فَكُنْتُ فِيمَنْ خَرَجَ، فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ وَجْهَهُ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِوَجْهِ كَذَّابٍ، فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَا سَمِعْتُهُ، يَقُولُ: «أَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ، وَأَفْشُوا السَّلَامَ، وَصَلُّوا وَالنَّاسُ نِيَامٌ تَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ بِسَلَامٍ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah, the people rushed out towards him in crowds, and I was among those who went out. When I saw his blessed face, I recognised that this could not be the face of a liar. The first thing I heard from him (peace and blessings be upon him) was: "Feed (others), spread the greeting of salam, and pray at night while people are asleep; you will enter Paradise in peace."
