It is narrated that Ibn Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Pray to Allah for martyrdom for me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, I make the blood of Ibn Tha'labah forbidden to the polytheists and the disbelievers." He said: I would charge into the bulk of the enemy, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would appear to me behind them. The people said: O Ibn Tha'labah, you attack the enemy and push right through. He said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appears to me behind them, so I charge at them until I reach him (peace and blessings be upon him); then he (peace and blessings be upon him) appears to me beside my companions, so I charge again until I am back with my companions." He said: Then he lived a long life.

Sayyiduna Damrah bin Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wearing two garments of a Yemeni suit. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you think these two garments of yours will admit you into Paradise?" He said: O Messenger of Allah, if you pray for forgiveness for me, I will not even sit down until I have taken them off. At that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, forgive Damrah bin Tha'labah." So he hurried off until he had taken off both garments.
