Ka'b al-Ahbar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We find in the Torah that Allah's Prophet Dawud (peace be upon him), when he finished his prayer, would say: "O Allah, set right for me my religion, which You have made the safeguard of my affairs, and set right for me my worldly life, in which You have placed my livelihood. O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your displeasure, and I seek refuge in Your pardon from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. None can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, and the fortune of a man of fortune does not avail him against You." Ka'b al-Ahbar said: And Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him) informed me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also used to finish his prayer with this supplication.

Ka'b al-Ahbar (may Allah have mercy on him) swore by Allah, who split the sea for Musa (peace be upon him), that Sayyiduna Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him) told him that whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to enter a town, he would say on seeing it: "O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of all that they shade, Lord of the seven earths and Lord of all that they carry, Lord of the devils and Lord of all whom they lead astray, Lord of the winds and Lord of all that they scatter! We ask You for the good of this town and the good of its people, and we seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of its people."

Ka'b al-Ahbar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him) told me, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make this supplication: "O Allah, You are not a deity whom we newly devised, nor a lord whom we invented; nor did we have, before You, any deity to whom we would turn for refuge and abandon You; nor did anyone help You in creating us, that we should associate him with You. Blessed are You and exalted." Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him) said: And this is how Allah's Prophet Dawud (peace be upon him) used to supplicate.
