Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that on the day of the Battle of Uhud, Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) brought water in a shield. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) washed his blessed face with it and said: "This water has become foul," meaning its condition had changed. Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) took a piece of a mat, burned it and placed it on his (peace and blessings be upon him) wound.

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that some words passed between Sayyiduna Ali and Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with them both), so Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) went out angry and threw himself down on the dust. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she said: Some words passed between me and him, and he went off angry. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out and found him sleeping on the dust. He (peace and blessings be upon him) woke him and began brushing the dust off his back, saying: "You are indeed Abu Turab (father of dust)." Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We used to call him by this name as praise, then some people began to taunt him with this very name."
