It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Islam began as something strange and will soon return to being strange, so glad tidings are for the strangers." The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah, who are the strangers? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Those who set things right when the people have become corrupt."

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that one day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us while we were in a gathering in which Amr bin al-As and his son were present. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What do you think if you remain until a time when only the worthless dregs of people are left, whose covenants and vows have become mixed up and entangled, and they become like this?" And he (peace and blessings be upon him) interlaced his fingers. The Companions said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take what you recognise as good, and leave what you recognise as evil; and let each of you attend to his own affairs and leave the affairs of the general public."
