حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْخَلَّالُ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ كَاسِبٍ، ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ فِي جِنَازَةٍ فَحَدَّثَهُمْ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «أُحَدِّثُكُمْ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنْتُمْ تَلْهُونَ؟ أَمَا وَاللهِ لَأُفَارِقَنَّكُمْ» ، فَقَالَ: أَيْنَ؟ قَالَ: «أَغْزُو» ، قُلْتُ: وَذَلِكَ فِيكَ؟ قَالَ: «أُكَثِّرُ سَوَادَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ»
Abu Hazim narrated: We were with Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) at a funeral. He narrated hadith to the people, then said: "I am narrating to you the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and you are busy with amusement? Listen, by Allah, I will leave you." Someone asked: Where to? He said: "I will go out for jihad." I asked: Do you have the strength for that? He said: "I will increase the number of the Muslims."
