Sulaym bin Mutayr narrates from his father, who said: I heard Dhu al-Zawa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the year of the Farewell Hajj, when he commanded the people and forbade them certain things, then said: "Have I conveyed?" The people said: O Allah, yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, bear witness." Then he said: "Take the stipend as long as it is fresh (pure); but when Quraysh quarrel among themselves over rule and the stipend becomes a bribe for your religion, then leave it."
