Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I was a blacksmith in the time of ignorance (Jahiliyyah). I made a sword for al-As bin Wa'il, then I came to ask him for my payment. He said: I will not give you until you disbelieve in Muhammad. I said: I will not disbelieve in Muhammad until Allah causes you to die. I mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "Have you seen the one who disbelieved in Our verses and said: 'I will surely be given wealth and children'? Has he looked into the unseen, or has he taken a covenant with the Most Merciful?" That is, "a firm covenant".
