Sayyiduna Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when this verse was revealed: "Do not ask about things which, if they were made plain to you, would distress you" [Surah al-Ma'idah: 101]. He says: We were still asking him when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah has servants who are neither prophets nor martyrs, yet the prophets and martyrs will envy them on the Day of Resurrection for their nearness and their seating with Allah, the Mighty and Majestic." He says: At one side of the gathering was a Bedouin. He stood up, then knelt on his knees, spread out both his hands and said: O Messenger of Allah, tell us about them: who are they? He says: I saw the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) light up, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are some of the servants of Allah from various towns and from the kinsfolk of various tribes. There was no blood relationship between them through which they were joined, nor any worldly dealing between them; rather, they love one another through the spirit of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. Allah will make their faces light, and He will place for them pulpits of pearl before the Most Merciful, the Exalted. People will be terrified but they will not be terrified, and people will fear but they will not fear."
